(I just realized, neither one of them gave their names. )
Mai nodded. She pulled out a large cutting broad and set it out on the counter then started to pull the food out of the bags. She handed some of the vegetables to Whit, telling him to make sure to wash his hands and the vegetables before cutting them. Then something dawned on her, he had yet to tell her his name and she likewise. "Hey, I don't believe either of us have given our names. I just go by Mai Schwarze."

(Oh my gosh, you're right. "o.o And I'm usually so good about that.)
He did so, though he grumbled a little at having been told to. "My name's Allan Whitford. People call me Whit." He began to chop, making quick work of the task.

Mai nodded and pulled out a pot, filling it half way with water then setting it to boil while she cooked the pork.
Whit expertly twirled the knife and asked, "So, you're a mechanic. That means machines, right? What kinds? I'm sure there are many of which I don't know about." He looked over at his crossbow in the corner. "I'm actually skilled in making weapons and armor, so we might have something in common."
Mai let out a small laugh at that, knowing her job was far form that. "Oh, no, far form it. I work with vehicles, such as the ones used to move around here. More like, I work with their engines. I have not made a weapon more than a gun and tinkering with my hand." She showed the metal hand as a sign. "This might be something you haven't seen before, that is for sure because it is still new in this time."
"Unless that's a gauntlet, then no, that's new to me." He looked at the hand curiously. "I assume you can move it, correct? I thought I saw you do it earlier but wasn't sure. And the only vehicles we had were carriages and prototypes for weapons called tanks." He shook his head. "Those things have no doubt been upgraded, I imagine."
Mai balled her right hand into a fist then unballed it. "Yeah, I can move it. My nerves are connected to it so that I can be able to move it. Not many people get extra limbs like this, so I got lucky we found one that would work in my grandmother's stuff. They have improved a lot, actually, and still going. I work on fixing the engines and anything that seems to be wrong with it."
"What other machines have they developed in this age?" He shook his head. "And the animals here are so small. And so sparse." He looked at her hand. "So you lost your hand? How did that happen? My cousin got his bit off by a jabberwock."
"A lot of different things, it's more than I really can explain." She said, still working with the meat. She winced when he asked about her hand, not sure on how to answer that. "It was...um...burned off, actually. It's a long story." She said, trying to remain calm but she wouldn't look him in the eyes.
He kept his eyes on his work, realizing she probably didn't want to tell the story. "Oh, I see. I won't ask." He continued to help her with dinner, proving quite the resourceful cook.
Mai was glad that he wouldn't ask more about it, it wasn't fun to bring up. She continued to cook the pork then checked on the pot of water, once boiling, she added the already cooked meat along with the already chopped vegetables.
White sat on one of the beds and clasped his hands. "So, you're leaving in a week, right?" He looked down at his boots, which he'd forgotten to take off at the door. He knew that without her he would be homeless again, and was thinking up a plan to find Snicker to return to his time.
Mai nodded. "Yes, I will be returning to England but I'll stop in Germany first." She said calmly, not sure on if she could help him with returning to where he had came form. "Though, I should have set it sooner, the meeting I was called for will only be referencing me for today and the rest of week in all trivial things to me."
(Sorry, that I haven't been on as of late. I haven't really felt like replying to most of my stuff and if this is short, I am sorry. I've been doing a lot of writing and school is also quite demanding.)

(It's totally fine! ^w^ School has hit us all. )
"... I know this is somewhat stereotypical, but since you are a witch, would you happen to have any experience with familiars?" He sniffed. "That smells good, by the way."
Taking off his boots, he recited his story. "The familiar in question was bestowed with the power to grant wishes by transmutation of materials. He received a summons to come to this time, and he brought me with him. He's most likely roaming about the city as we speak. No doubt got distracted by the lights and that alcohol he likes so much."
(Would you be okay with taking the RP in this direction? No doubt there'll be many magic puns. )

( Ooooh, this sounds good. Sorry that I disappeared. I kind of started up writing a lot more and was using up a lot of my creativity so I just couldn't figure out replies for ANYTHING. I has returned though! Though, for familiars, I have not to slightest clue what those are. )
Mai was not sure on what these so called familiars were but they sounded form a more distant time before she came. She shook her head but listened to what he told her, not surprised by this notation. "I have not met or know any knowledge of familiars, but by the sound of it, they sound similar to time travelers or rather time magic users. A young one, I presume, correct?"

(SHE LIVES. Welcome back! I totally understand where you're coming from and that's totally cool with me. As far as familiars go, I'll explain IC.)
He shook his head. "Oh no, not time magic. Lord knows what would happen if he got his hands on that. So, familiars are like little pets that witches have that help with their scheming and dirty work. Snicker, the familiar in question, was presumably summoned by a witch of this time. You can do that with them, so long as you know of the familiar, how to summon that one in particular -- some use calling cards of sorts --, etc. However, they can easily refuse your request for service." He laughed at her next presumption. "Three hundred years old, I've been told. How old that is to a magical creature is to be determined."

(Yes! I live! Thanks for understanding though. Being a junior in high school has its ups and downs.)
"I see, well they seem to not be used very often in the witches I have met. Magic has become more divided and changed over the years so now each witch has his or her own limits, the strength they have in that magic is boundless though. If you are searching for that familiar, Snicker, then it will take some time but I might know someone else that would be more than happy to help and has less limits than I do." She pulled out two paper plates and began to serve the meal.

He took the plate and bowed, grateful. "Thank you for the meal and the help. I'm not sure what I would've done without you." As they worked at their meal, he said, "All it would take would be to summon him, and then I could convince him to take us home. Gods know why they brought him, or how they even know he existed... I doubt someone would keep a list of servants on file. He's specialized in transmutation, that is the changing of materials from one form to another. Alchemists would love to get their hands on him, but he's actively refused to transmute things to gold. Something about economics or something far wiser than what you'd expect from him."
Mai nodded, eating while she listened inattentively, this did seem quite interesting to do. "Well, that might be a problem. Since magic has expanded form just spells and potions, certain parts are limited. I can only shift my physical form, the two other witches I am close with can only cast spells, though one is limited to weather and healing spells while the other is able to use about any spell expect dark magic. Summoning cards are considered part of the dark magic world which most do not dabble in but there are a few black sheep in the mix."
He grimaced, eyes downcast. "I'm afraid I'll have to ask that you pertain in the dark arts this one time, or at least direct me to one who will... That, or we could bait him with rooted beer." The hunter finished his plate quickly and examined it, unsure of what material it was. "All we'd really need are a few alchemical ingredients and chalk."
