Vivian was glad to hear that her company made him feel better. "I'm very glad to come with you. Thank you for inviting, Jack." Once they arrived, she got out of the car and would walk with him to go find the farmer.
The farmer saw them pull up, he wiped his hands and went to greet them. "You must be Mr. Terrance, I'm John." Jack shook hands with the farmer and looked at Vivian "Hope you don't mind, John that I brought my good friend Ms. Frances." John looked at her "Not at all."
Vivian would be more than happy to shake the man's hand as well. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." She smiled at Jack, then would let the two men talk business.
John turned gesturing for the two to follow. "So Terrance, what is the interest with buying horses?" His voice was slightly raspy due to his age, but it wasn't rare to see a Scottsman in England. "Well I just purchased a home with some stables, and I grew up around Dales." Jack replied stepping into pace. "Dales huh? They be a pretty good breed, but they ain't as pretty as the Hackneys." The man led them onto a dirt trail leading to a barn on the hill.
Vivian smiled and would follow John, staying close to Jack however. She was so glad to spend time with him. She said nothing yet, just followed along, eager to see the foals. When they were brought into the barn, she smiled.
John unlatched the barn "they are in the back, I have a brother and sister. So go ahead and have a look." Jack walked to a gate and looked over the top "Vivian come here!" He Said cheerfully. Two foals were laying down, a black one with white socks and the other was pure white.
Vivian came over and peered over the gate, her face lighting up as she saw the foals. "Oh, look at them Jack! They're so cute!" She tugged the glove from her hand and held her bare hand over the gate, making a little clicking noise to get their attention.
The white foal stood, slightly unbalanced as it walked to the gate raising its laughed. John laughed "She certainly likes attention. She is the younger of the two." He walked near them to open the gate. "I call her Snow, mainly because of her coat but also for her light gray eyes." He pushed the gate so it swung open.
Vivian stepped in carefully, reaching over to tenderly pet the head of the foal. "She's very sweet." She smiled, looking over at the other foal. "And what of that one? What do you call him?" She smiled, petting the foal's head.
"Him? That's Baiard.. He was born blind, but he sure has blue eyes. He is a nervous wreck cause he can't see, so he relies on following Snow." He sighed "If you buy Snow, you can have him for free. I don't have any use for a blind horse. Which is too bad, he sure looks fine." Jack knelt to crouch at Baiard's level, reaching his hand out to gently touch the foal's soft nose. Baiard pulled back a bit but after a moment let Jack stroke him. Jack smiled.
Vivian watched the foal and Jack. "Born blind? What a poor little thing...You should get them, Jack." She pet at Snow and watched Baiard and Jack. Maybe it would help him. He would be able to watch a completely blind horse deal with its impediment, maybe it would make him have a better look on his own.
Jack looked at Vivian and then to John "How much?" John looked at Snow "200.." Jack nodded "sounds reasonable. How long until they can be brought to my house?" John scratched his head "A week at most so I can get them checked." Jack stood reaching into his pocket and thumbed through a was of cash, then handed it to John. The farmer took the cash "This is 300?" Jack nodded "200 for Snow and 100 for Baiard."
Vivian smiled. Jack was just proving himself more and more amazing. "I can't wait to see them again. Be sure to take good care of them meanwhile." She thought they were so adorable. She smiled happily at Jack.
"Well, we better get going." Jack walked out of the horse stall. "Coming Vivian?" John looked at the money. "I will throw in some feed for the extra." Jack nodded once more "That's fine, but it isn't extra money. I specifically purchased a overlooked perfectly good horse."
Vivian nodded and smiled, coming right along behind him. She put her glove back on and went to the car with him. "You are so kind, Jack." She smiled at him.
He started the car "Guess I just felt sorry for the little Guy." They pulled out onto the road and made back to the city.
Vivian nodded in understanding. "I can see that." She smiled though. "You have a kind heart, Jack, even if you felt sorry for him. That alone gives you a kind heart."
He drove past the barracks a few miles to a dirt road that was bordered by trees and green grass. The aroma of sweet wild flowers filled the air.
Vivian took in a deep breath and sighed contently. "Ah...nothing beats wild flowers." She looked over and smiled at him. "Do you have anymore plans for the day, Jack?"
"No not really, but up ahead is that house I bought. Figured you would like to see it." Jack pulled into a long driveway up to a stone house. Though the actual size resembled more like that of a mansions. Grape vine clung to the side of it, and it had a big deep red door. "Looks old on the outside but the inside is gorgeous."
