"Fall back," the battlemage spits to his men in a low voice. "We need reinforcements!" He bats at the flames licking up around his armor and steps backwards to get out of them. The two melee warriors break out of combat with Ivian and Fridgja. The flail wielder glares at the elf a moment longer, then, with a growl, slips his way across the ice to his commander. The battlemage flexes his fingers as he glares at the crew. "Lord Azerang will hear of this!" he growls as he brings his fists together. A swirling purple vortex surrounds the four men. As it shrinks in on itself, they vanish completely, leaving only a sigh in the air--and their fallen comrade.
Ivian breathes heavily. With the danger passed, he plants the bottom edge of his shield against the icy ground to brace himself, keeping himself from slipping around. He turns to face the ragtag group, his eyes going from the troll to Lyra and Jaspur, then finally to the bat woman. A sigh escapes him. "They'll be back. I don't think we should be anywhere near here when they return..." He knuckles his temple with his gauntleted hand. "I plan on getting on the road before the sun rises, and I suggest you all do the same."
(As a heads up, I'm road tripping this weekend and won't be back until next weekend!)

"Who were they?"Abelith asked, still breathing heavily. She'd never had to use her magic for defense purposes. She knew she'd need to practice, and to practice more then just fire spells. "Uh.... I'm Abelith by the way."She responded.
Lyra's spells withdrew themselves within the holes on her violin, the archaic runes lining the wooden frame of the instrument gave a pulsating blueish glow. She put away her instrument by latching the scroll to her thin chain belt that hung around her waist and covered the violin and bow with her dress, her sheet music floated back into the tavern where she had left her bag and other belongings.
While Ivian spoke Lyra took the opportunity to rummage through the dead man's pockets and cloths for anything of use to her. "Some gold and silver, a few biscuits and a new cloak..." Lyra said as she took what she wanted. She turned back, "What? I girl's got to fend for herself somehow." Lyra said trying to justify her less than reverent actions, "Besides, its not like he'll have much use for this stuff anymore."
Lyra tied the pilfered cloak to her back as her magic changed its color to a forest green. She pulled the cowl over her head and strolled into the tavern to retrieve her things and compile the gold she had gained with the rest she already possessed - with was to say not that much.
"Who were they?" Abelith asked during her labored breathing, the battle must've taken a lot out of her. "Uh.... I'm Abelith by the way."
Lyra exited the building, "Those were some of Lord Azerang's knights and a battle mage. A nasty bunch to be sure. I agree Ivian of Northshield, let us depart!" Lyra said as she wrapped her arms around one of Ivian's and gave a small playful squeeze. Lyra then turned and gave a small curtsy to everyone "Lyra of the Fells. Bard extraordinaire!" she said with a small flourish of her hand to the air.

Jaspur reached back to touch at his back as best he could, bringing his hand back stained with a little blood that had dribbled down his coat from the gash across his shoulders. He scowled down at it, but when his dog, Symeon, broke from beneath a table and rushed over to him he forgot it all. The wizard opened he arms and wrapped them around his canine who wagged frantically and licked at his face.
"Depart? Together?" he asked and stood back up again. "I prefer to travel alone, but if we must, i have a wagon we can use." he said and stepped forwards as if ready to go and get it, but his red eyes flicked to Ivian "Was I wrong to assume they were here to cause a world of trouble? Because if ive caused unnecessary trouble, its on my head, not yours. I can stay behind."

"Nonsense!" Lyra cried with mock hurt, "I'm sure that those black knights would've caused just as much if not more trouble for the people of this village." Lyra reasoned aloud. She gave Ivian another playful squeeze on the arm before letting go to walk over to a nearby signpost. On it were a myriad of locations at various listed distances. "I think it would be wise however to get going before more of those men turn up..." Lyra said as she looked for a town that was along the way to her own destination.
"In fact, I could use some help. There is a strange castle that is far off the beaten path that I want to go to. There is something there that I'm interested in retrieveing..." Lyra said in a bubbly tone that sort of trailed off at the end.
"Does anyone want to join me?" Lyra asked as she turned back to face the group.
((So a week or so ago Heimdall gave me the go ahead to try to revive this thread. I have a plot in mind that I think most of you would find very interesting. Are we all willing to give this thread another go?))

Ivian shakes his head at Jaspur, stumbling his way off the icy patch. "It's impossible to know," he rumbles. "Sometimes they just come to drink a tavern out of booze... and sometimes they come to launch a horrible inquisition or quell some resistance by force. I don't know why they came this time... maybe it's for the best that we chased them off. It's safer for us all to travel together."
The heartseeker tilts his head towards Lyra when she squeezes his arm, offering a thin smile. Her suggestion makes him pause and ponder as he lifts a hand to scratch at his stubbly chin. "... it's my duty to serve," the knight says. "Where is this castle, and what's the nature of the item you're looking for?" He looks over to the others, wondering what their reaction would be.

Abelith wasn't sure how to answer. "Well.... I guess if it would be safer."Abelith said, not quite sure what to do.
