Y'all know you love it. God knows I do, it's like a drug! So, for those of you who have played the game, what do you tend to play? My main right now is a pretty kick@$$ Breton Battlemage. Destruction and Alteration specialist and dual-wielder of either staff and dagger, or just two staves. Kind of ignoring the main questline right now and playing through the College of Winterhold quests, because the Mage's Guild quests were my favorite in Oblivion. Plus, anybody know where I can get the robes that the College faculty are wearing, like Tolfdir? I can't find it anywhere, can't seem to buy it, and I can't steal it off of anybody either for some reason and it's starting to irk me! DO WANT.

My partner, Redbeard, has played it like it's a fulltime job. 40 hours in one week. (He's a fulltime student and has a parttime job, too.) He's playing a Nord that uses 2H weapons and heavy armor and some destruction magic. I know he's progressing through the College quests atm, but he's level 35 or so. He of course did the Companions first, but he's done a good bit of the main story too.

I'm too crappy with the Xbox controller to play it. Someday. I made a female Nord themed after the Norse goddess Skadi, so I want her to use ice magic and bows and stuff, but I was also dualwielding a bunch. I shot an elk that was acting really crazy. And there were some bandits! Then I quit since it was too hard to play.

Yeah, getting used to using the controller was wonky for me at first. I almost went and got the PC version instead but realized that it'd be easier for me to port it around as an Xbox game- just svae my stuff on an MU and cart my game, MU, and controller around rather than the whole system itself.

Well, Darthizzle, that's because great minds think alike. Battlemages FTW. Especially when you can dual wield weapons OR spells!

I don't own the game, but I've seen my friends played it and heard SO many good things about it. It sounds so amazing I'm tempted to go pick it up.

If you don't own an Xbox it's available for PC, and the beauty of it is, with PC you should eventually be able to mod it! If I was confident that my own box could handle it, that's how I would have gone, but I don't regret my choice

Well, how about I just show the mods I selected? It might help players get things going.

First off, the Save Manager. Useful tool if you plan on/have multiple characters to play at different times. It keeps them neatly ordered and makes it easier to load the character you want to play. Also has a BACKUP TOOL to save your savefiles.

No more blocky faces really improves the faces, but the file is currently under review for some reason. Not sure why, it's working splendidly in my game. So I hope it's back up soon!

Detailed bodies enhances the textures of skins for the humanoid races. You can't have detailed bodies without Detailed Faces though.

Nude females is a NSFW mod that adds the realistic touch of nudity. It's always bugged me that there's nothing beyond underwear when you undress. While I don't stare at nude females all day long, I like the sense of realism this puts to the game.

Enhanced Night Sky makes the night just a little more romantic while you're riding your horse on a quest to defeat Alduin.

My first character was a female Kahjiit who combined sneaking, destruction and single handed blades into quite an epic combination. She needed a while to get strong though.

She's probably halfway through the main quest at the moment, but I felt kind of like she doesn't fit 100% as a Dovahkiin due to her species, plus because she took so long to properly kick some dragon butt.

I started new with a male Nord (I've never played male Nords before!) and he kicks BUTTOCKS! Like WOAH! His first dragon was just slayed, and he took the fire attacks like a boss and then slayed the dragon in the cutscene by jumping on his head and stabbing him until he was down.

My reaction was o____________________________o

My Kahjiit died twice before the guards took down the dragon, and she was labeled as a hero. SHE DIDN'T DESERVE IT COMPARED TO THE NORD. AAARRR!! *rage*

So I finally managed to grab up those robes I want- Expert Robes of Destruction, as it turns out. Admittedly, I had to take some rather unsavory routes to get it, but still.

I just got past the part where I was exploring the old Dwemer ruin with all the Falmer in it, and things have happened that I won't speak of because I don't want to spoil anything, but the legend of the Breton Battlemage, Haedin Stonecarver, continues! Managed to get a Staff of Lightning bolts that does better damage than my Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson, but it's slower so I still use the JG staff more, and working on enchanting my Dragon Priest Dagger soon, once I can find a good weapon enchant for it. Lil' tip: Check out the Dwemer Ruin of Mzulft if you need soul gems, almost every Dwarven Spider or Sphere Guardian or whatever has one, they're freakin' everywhere. Really helps me out, I'm kind of steering away from Alteration and more towards enchanting. I'm kind of a nerd and like to sort of personify my characters once I get into them, give them a backstory and personality and stuff. It makes it a bit more fun for me.

Having played oblivion and disliking the game very much I went into skyrim expecting the same but I was quite surprised that Skyrim turned out to be one of the greatest games I've recently played. Already spent over 40 hours in the game since Thursday with my buff argonian paladin/death knight/blacksmith/alchemist/enchanter. Running around around raising zombies while self-healing and swinging around a self-made shield and mace in self-made armor with my own enchantements while high on a collection of potions turns out to be quite productive.

My best friend was the exact same way. He downright hated Morrowind, and he couldn't sit through Oblivion for more than five minutes or so without just getting bored out of his mind for some reason. I let him try Skyrim, and suddenly he keeps texting me asking when I'm bringing it back over for him to play, until he can afford to buy it himself.

He was seriously thinking about forgoing buying food for the week, just so he could go buy Skyrim.

And yet I don't find Skyrim shockingly different from Oblivion. There are a lot of features that are the same or similar in both games. Skyrim feels like Oblivion with extra features, but nothing.... new. Does anyone else feel the same?

WHile yes, the two games are quite similiar those extra features make Skyrim much bettrr than Oblivion. I can't quite explain it but somehow they nailed exactly the features thatthe game needed to keep me interesting.
It's also visually much more impressive and all the dungeons look less copy pasted.

For those who find the world of Skyrim visually a bit dull, there is a Skyrimnexus user who altered the textures for almost everything to be more vivid and colorful. Skyrim has by default a sober and dull look to match the atmosphere of the game, but if that's not for you, try these:
