First off, I am a anime/manga nerd! Even though I preferably lime to read mangas since the anime usually leave out a lot of important events n' stuff...(Chrono Crusade im looking at you!) Buuuuut... I still take some time to watch some anime's on adult swim if I can keep my eyes open long enough before falling asleep.
Sooo... I've been wondering. What are the most annoying clichés and character traits in anime to you?
I'll go first:
1. Bloody noses at anything perverted.
2. Characters falling down during embarrassing moments.(Who does that?!)
3. Female characters that are are so high pitched it sounds like they're singing with Alvin with the chickmunks while gasping for air. *wheeze* Kurosaki-kun!
4. Stories that take place in a high school or Tokiyo setting, Jeez...it's been done to death.
5. I hate to say this, but... big breasted women that take away the focus of the main plot and they are always panty flashing all the time.
6. Characters that smile with their eyes closed! (Who in God's name does that!?)
7. Anytime they're is a epic show down and the opponent's are having a staring contest while everyone is in the back round going. ZONG IS THEY JESUS?!:0
8. Characters that act anti-spcial and complain about their past. I think the audience understands that your past was super aweful so stop using that as an excuse for being disrespectful to everyone around you! They may treat everyone like crap by the ladies love 'em anyways!
9. Characters that eat a ridiculous amount of food and eat at fast paste like they haven't eaten in five years.(Examples: Goku, Luffy)
10. Characters that have no parents, usually teens or young adults that are the main protagonist. I mean come on! It's like every child in anime is signing their own death warrant after have just one kid! Goku has no parents, Mikasa lost her parents twice and Ichigo only has one parent. Stop torturing these characters people!
That's all I got what's yours u opinion?

I think a lot of these are more genre bound than Anime clichés. Bloody noses, falling etc. are typically only or most heavily present in comedies. Big boobs and panty shots are purely fanservice the same way big boobs and skimpy armor are fanservice in games. The rest is due to overproduction and lack of original content in the stories, recycling what's been successful in the past too much - not really exclusive to Anime but heavily present in Hollywood too.
If there's anything in Anime I dislike though, it's probably the culture in the shows. It's often too perfect and all about how people are seen by others. I really enjoy shows where the characters are not perfect cutesy girls who get good grades and have a good social life, and where the characters are not broodingly tall and dark handsome guys who have a flock of girls obsessing over them - all their problems tend to be pretty superficial but are over dramatized as being the end of their world, with no communication between characters whatsoever which creates more eye rolling conflict.
I've really started drifting towards more mature and realistic Animes in the past couple of years, or at least shows where characters are truly flawed and don't fit the mold. Where a character is a slob, who doesn't always clean their room but keeps it moderately tidy, has an actual personality that goes beyond cute and girly or dark and brooding, and who faces genuine real life issues. Like how to deal with the death of a loved one, how to deal with money and work, how to maintain friendships. Also bizarre stuff, like Serial Experiments Lain and Attack on Titan tickle my fancy. Nana remains one of the best dramas I know because it's so real. Sailor Moon is a never ending favorite (mainly the manga and the Crystal reboot) because it puts so much value on friendship over outward appearances.
