The world was once filled with Mages, and other magical elements. Magic was a power meant for the pursuit of knowledge and to bind the worlds beings together, but somewhere along the way the Mages turned the world into one where one's worth was completely depended on their proficiency with the art of magic. For the purpose of proving their strength, Mages eventually began fighting against one another, wars were waged, lives were lost, and those without power could only cower in fear and wait for their fate to befall them. The world lay in ruin, the Mages too blind with power to realize the havoc they wrought, that is, until the emergence of the Anti-Arcanists, a band of non-mages who despite having no talent for the arcane arts themselves, understood them on a deep level and were able to develop countermeasures in order to do battle with the mages. After years of strife, the Anti-Archanists triumphed over the mages, by this time the world was convinced that Magic was the source of all evil and corruption, and so to ensure peace and purity in the world, the Anti-Arcanists devised the ultimate countermeasure. The Cleansing, a ritual in which five high level mages are sacrificed in order to seal off the five Nexuses, the points in which all magical energy flows into the world, rendering magic nonexistent so long as the seals remains.
The year is now 2100 N.A. (New Age), the world has now become a technologically advanced cyberpunk society, ruled by the Anti-Arcanists' totalitarian government, their core belief; magic is evil and only science can bring prosperity. Every seventy years, when the seal on the nexuses break, five children with the highest magical potential are chosen from birth and raised by the government to become high level mages for the sole purpose of being the sacrifices for the Cleansing. These mages, known as the Pillars of Fate, are revered as saviors by society, as they are giving up their lives, and more importantly they're purity, for the sake of humanity. With this in mind some Pillars take their fate as a great honor, while others wish for freedom and the chance to live their lives. With the time for the next cleansing drawing near will the current Pillars accept their fate, or rebel against it.
As the title says this will be sort of a Magic vs Science RP, the idea is for the Pillars to rebel against the Anti-Arcanists, details when the RP actually gets going. Right now I need 5 people to play the Pillars, 3 boys and 2 girls, respond if you're interested.

I'm interested! Sounds like a cool RP. ^^
Awesome, got a character in mind?
Well, I have a character called Miriela who is a water mage, and she could be moved to fit into context. But I could easily make a new character as well.
I got York, he's a childish kid who loves to play tricks on people. Only 16 he has the magical ability to transform into any "non fiction" animal he has studied for up to five to ten minutes, with a recharge time of about a minute or so. He can't go from one for to another he must revert back to his human state. Not much of an elemental, or a caster but he is definitely magical.
Back story: his father was either royalty or a corrupt politician who treated him awful. With no mother and an abusive father, Rams ends up using his powers to kill his father and in a story like this he could be captured as an "unauthorized Mage" and taken for training or for sacrifice. Up to you let me know if you want to use York in your story!

My favorite forms are:
Gorilla
Elephant
Turtle
Falcon
And Catfish!

I don't think so Royal, York is definitely a cool character, but the rules of the world don't really allow for his existence, you see with his abilities he would be considered a magical creature rather than a mage and while they do exist, or DID exist in this universe, when the seal is active all magical creatures die out, since they have magic in their very beings, so he would have to have somehow been born during the "Black Period" the twenty years between the seal breaking and the seal being remade. If you can somehow make that work, since I'm assuming he inherited his power from his missing mother in his original incarnation, then I'd be happy to see if I can fit him in as an ally to the Pillars.
As for Smile, shoot me a PM and I'll explain how magic works in this universe, then you can decide if you want to "refit" her for the story or just create a new character, kay?

So long as there's shapeshifting magic I could use one of the Willows, probably Jake(Hardly use him ;A;) and I could explain the odd appearance as a personal choice to use over his human form.
Well, there is shapeshifting magic, sort of, shoot me a PM and I'll explain how magic works in this world.
This does sound pretty neat. It has me pondering, if nothing else.
I do have questions though.
Is there no way to identify children with magic capabilities before the seal breaks, so the Black Period could be reduced? While they might not be able to actually practice the magic until then, they could still be getting trained in the theory of it all. After all, twenty years every time is certainly long enough for people to question how evil magic really is.
Why are the sacrifice mages trained for twenty years? Why are they trained at all - do they have to grow their magic to a certain level before they're any use as sacrifices? (Otherwise, training them is l would probably be considered too great a risk.) Does it require the 20 years to reach that level, or does the sacrifice also have an age requirement?
How are the children selected?

Good questions, I'll try and see if I can clear up any confusion.
No, there's no way to measure a child's magical potential before the seal breaks, it's measured during sonograms, there is a separate sensor that measures the fetus's tolerance of Mana (magical energy), the higher the tolerance, the better they would be able to control it, and the more powerful they'd be as Mages. Since there is no Mana in the world while the seal is active they can't test fetuses for magical potential.
I call the Pillars sacrifices, but that's not entirely accurate. What the Cleansing actually is is a large scale spell that the Pillars cast together, reversing the flow of Mana back into the Nexuses and then becoming the pillar shaped seals that keep the Mana from coming back out, resulting in their deaths. They are trained for twenty years because that's typically how long it takes to get the Pillars to an appropriate level for them to be able to cast the spell.
So yeah, I hope that cleared things up a bit, you interested?

Alright, so I think Sketch is officially on board, that's one boy character down, and if lyingsmile can give me some confirmation than we'd have one girl as well, I'll post the available spots on the first post.
I was in classs!!! I want to do it!
LOL, alright, alright, you're in, will you still be using Miriela?
I'm just gonna say yes. Alright, two more boys and one more girl and we can get started.
I'll do a girl! Umm... I have three witch characters in the works that I could finish quickly... How specified does the magic have to be?
Hold on, I'll PM you information on how Magic in this world works later.
Okay, I'm thinking my witch Leslie. (She's a wip on anonymous)
Alright, what's her specialty?
Hello, I'm interested in the RP and I have several characters
