The sun lay high in the sky, beating down mercilessly on the soldiers below. The only relief from the hot, cloudless sky was the cool breeze that blew to the east through the valley. Besides this nature was silent. No small animals scurried about. No crickets played their melodious tunes. The breeze died out as the thumping of imperial boots grew louder and louder, then stopped. All of nature seemed to hold its breath as it waited to see which side would fire the first shot that would turn into a bloody, death ridden battle. The Imperial troops, clockwork giants, and cannons held a silent position on one side of the boulder ridden valley. The rag tag forces of the Resistance stood at the other end, armed with stolen equipment, makeshift explosives, and fiery passion for their countries.
From the northern cliff of the valley stood Drew. His rifle magnifiers were all up as he scanned the enemy forces for the faces of any officers. These would be his targets once the fighting began. The rebel panned over to find her sister, who was in the very front line the Resistance. Although with lower technology, the forces around Andrea far outnumbered the Imperials. Andrea checked the cartridge in her gun. It was fully loaded, but she knew that already. She was just impatient to get this over with. Then the first shots came.

Lieutenant Colonel Tumbler, weaved past squads of soldiers to sneak a better peek at the opposing forces. Being a master at the art of engineering, he looked in admiration at one of the mechs. "I want one of those." Mumbling lightly under his breath, he took the rifle from his shoulder and anticipated the attack. Ducking from the paths of future bullets, that's when the forces converged. Most of the front line seemed to be fighting close range, with both blades, and short-ranged spread shot contraptions. One of Eli's own marvelous work. Not taking time to bask in his own achievements, the Lieutenant Colonel rolled out of the way, jointing a group of advancing soldiers.
Eli was indeed quite a brilliant fighter, but was still always so fascinated at the tales of the Calvin Twins. One, an elite sniper that could shoot down a fly miles away. Andrea, the way she ought and held herself in battle, it was truly magnificent! Tumbler's eighteen-year-old mind thrived at the idea of minors holding there own in the midst of battle. Firing a few more shots from his rifle, he took down a few Imperial scum. His bled still rattled at his thigh as most of the other unsheathed theirs ready for close-quarters.
Eli was hesitant to just charge into battle, blade held high. He was held with high authority, he was worrying about snipers being just over the hills, waiting, for an officer like him, to come along. Then he remembered that their own sniper support was a legendary one, Drew Calvin. Recollecting his fabled tales have him a boost of confidence, and he charged in.

Moments after the first bullets were fired the valley became a bloodbath. Metal tore into both sides, dropping imperial soldiers and resistance soldiers alike. Imperial cannons battered the front lines of the resistance as Andrea opened fire herself. The bullets and men falling around her didn't bother her. This was because she was only focused on one thing, taking out the enemy. Aim, shoot, arm, aim, shoot, arm, repeat. Reload. Repeat. A focused firing from her and the men around her softened the enemy forces just enough to stand a chance before the two sides collided.
Meanwhile, on the ridge, Drew scanned the imperial forces for decent targets. After all, he only had so much ammo when he was cut off from the supplies held down below. Ah, there was one. A man stood behind the cannons, resting on the hill from which the imperials entered the valley, and pointed directions in which to focus fire. Aim, click, boom, drop. The man was on the ground with a large chest wound and the cannons faltered for a moment before regaining leadership. Aim, click, boom, drop. The second man dropped to the ground. It was time to change targets before he was spotted. Cannon fire had been disoriented enough. Searching...
