I had this idea and told my fellow RPR friend about it. She said I should suggest it so...here it is!
We have a lot of awesome going on at RP Repository and I think we should recognize it. So I was thinking we could have a Roleplay of the Month or Group of the Month type thing. Just recogizing things that improved greatly, people who are incredibly helpful, talented writing, etc. And they could possibly get a ribbon or something on their profile for it.
Just a thought.

I was doing a monthly 'member spotlight' a while back but I became overwhelmed with work and real life so I stopped. I may pick it back up again if people are interested.
That is a really good idea! And maybe have different categories? Like best idea of the week and stuff? Awesome idea!
Awesome idea!
I think it will make a lot of people upset for not being chosen and create a lot of bad blood. It's nice for the people who get the spotlight, but I don't fancy the idea of turning this into a competition. People have become upset over much pettier things.
Perhaps a poll? Or maybe it can be like a baton that gets passed from person to person? Which ever it is it should never be awarded to the same person twice. That way it can be spread to the whole of RPR, it would be something that we all can work diligently towards without guile or animosity - it would be awarded to a person who would be just as kind and respectful as it was previously held by!
And what about people who will never make it? We have close to 10,000 members. We'll never be able to put them all in the spotlight, not even just the active part, so many people will always be left out. And that just feels really unfair to them.
We sorta tried this with the old featured characters/character spotlight thing. It was kinda cool but it just made people upset when they weren't picked.
I'm in general a fan of the idea of showcasing some aspect of the community on a regular basis, whether it's a person or just an idea. We have had to back off from doing this kind of thing "officially" after our experiment with having a panel that selected featured characters many years ago. There were a few major complications:
1) The site has kids as young as 13 on it, so anything we officially promote needs to be basically G rated. This leaves out a HUGE amount of great RP, characters, groups, ideas, artwork and etc., simply because it's a little bit too sexy or violent or whatever.
2) It really did make people mad when they weren't selected and resulted in grumbling of "favoritism" even if they obviously failed to meet one or all of the posted criteria for selection.
3) It was labor intensive and done by volunteers, so it was done in fits and starts due to school, illness, whatever complications the panel happened to run into in their lives. But again, since it was "official," there was not a lot of forgiveness for the featured characters not getting new additions in certain months.
So when it comes to this kind of thing, I much prefer to support member journalists who want to create their own "publications" on the forums, like kuroi is doing with the Cat's Meow.
HOWEVER, we did have huge success when we hosted that series of community discussions about RP, and then posted the resultant findings in the news. This allowed us to feature cool ideas but without focusing on any one single person, and anyone who wanted to show up could help shape the discussion. I would love to schedule some more talks like that! Maybe one a quarter or something else manageable?
