Alexander West (played anonymously)

Just gonna use my character name for now.

Anyway, I joined this site in 2012 and I remember everybody got a reply to their rp! There was no such thing as boredom. This place was so lively and fun.

Nowadays...we crappy role players who can't get in more than two paragraphs, plethoras of Furries, and little role players.

I miss the days I actually had fun. I'm considering leaving after I just got hear three days ago.

Hi there!

I'm sorry you feel this way. Activity has gone down a little, but I think this is mainly because people have moved to a bunch of private groups to focus on specific themes and hang out with friends. We've also grown substantially since 2012, as we're close to having 10,000 members from almost every imaginable background, so it's to be expected that interests will be spread out more and some people aren't finding the roleplay they're looking for. Plus, the site is originally a character profile host, not specifically a roleplaying site, so a bunch of people who join the site roleplay in other places such as online games.

Post length, furries and so forth aren't really impacting the scene that much. People's real lives often catch up with them. I used to be post frequently but now I'm barely roleplaying at all due to real life circumstances. I know of several other people who are going through rough times themselves.

I fully understand being upset, but you have to keep in mind that nothing is static. Communities grow and change because people leave and join constantly. I've personally had a lot of luck posting concepts in the RP finder (just remember to post an actual concept, "I'll RP whatever with you" is so vague it often ends up ignored and isn't really supposed to be in the Finder anyway).

Maybe we can help you out? Is there something in particular you keep running into that's making it hard for you to find RP?
I hope this isn't rude to butt in on, but the furries and people with short replies probably also view you the same. Everyone has their own style and that's one of the things I like best about roleplaying here.

I can and do write huge posts to some people, but I also like that I can write something compact and meaningful with another person. I could literally go pages and pages with my favourite partner on here with 1-2 sentence posts alone. We focus primarily on character interactions instead of detailed descriptions and the like, but I have also had partners who I write these huge descriptive pages for.

Everyone has their own thing and that's okay, you just need to find the people who like what you do so that you can start having fun again.

I'm not sure what your experience has been now, and I'm not sure what it was then. But it's statistically suspect.
  • Between 2012 and 2014, posts per hour has gone way up
  • Number of active players has gone way up
  • Ratio of furres to other characters has declined (although I don't see what the big deal is, personally.)
  • Number of complaints about boredom posted on the forums has remained roughly the same, because humans are still humans

This is good news! It means that if you found a group of friends who replied to your posts instantly the last time around, it should be just as possible, if not more possible, this time around. :)

Sure, it's true that where posts, especially the long ones, are being posted has shifted. Back in 2012, groups were an enormous PITA to set up and use, and now they're pretty darn nice. Because of that, a lot of RPers have shifted into groups where they can keep multiple scenes and world building info that all belong to the same "game" or "world" all in one place. So sure, sometimes you have to do a little more work to find them, but they're for sure there.

So, I'm very sorry you're having a bad day, but now I have to ask what the point of this post was. Do you want advice about how to find RP? Do you want people to offer to RP with you? Do you want us to beg you to stay? Is it just a pity party?

Oh, I think I may see the issue. It looks like you posted a RP in General which you marked as Open.

But as far as I can tell you haven't invited anyone to the RP yet. It's incredibly rare that people join RPs without a specific invitation, even if they are marked open -- almost everyone advertises for players in Looking For RP first, so they can explain what the setting is and people can decide which of their characters will best fit. That way they don't have to fear charging in unprepared and spoiling things.

From your opening post, I don't know what era it is, I don't know if magic is allowed or what level of technology I'm allowed to have, I don't know if it's a dystopian future where lizard-people are a common occurrence or if that would totally destroy your concept.

I can see you're off to bounty hunt, but I'm not sure if you want someone to try and stop you, or join you on the hunt, or to play your victims, or to be innocent bystanders, or what. I strongly suggest telling people what you're looking for. :)
