Magic is evil, this is the core belief of society. Magic was once a widely practiced art, but when the mages of old abused their power the people had enough and the Anti-Arcanists were born, non-mages with in depth knowledge of the arcane arts, enough to fight against them... and win. The world was convinced that magic was the source of all evil and corruption, and so the Anti-Arcanists engineered the ultimate countermeasure, the Cleansing, a spell that would be cast by 6 powerful mages to seal away the Nexuses, the sources of all Mana (magical energy), however, it would cost the mages their lives. Every 70 years, when the seals weaken and break, 6 children with the highest magical potential are chosen at birth and trained to become the sacrifices for the cleansing; the Six Pillars of Fate.
It is now the year 2086 N.A. (New Age), the seals have broken once again and the "Black Period" was well in its 6th year. The current Pillars of Fate were, as a whole, 6 years old, the appropriate age for them to formally start their training. There was a to be a grand festival to celebrate the occasion, which the Pillars would attend, giving them their fist glance at the outside world. Morning came and within the training facility a light chiming bell ringed throughout the building, enough so to awaken the Mages-to-be. The children stirred in their beds within their highly secured rooms, when they finally wake up they will find their first set of mage's robes sitting at the foot of their bed, a caretaker would be in shortly to assist them in putting it on, a guard standing at each of their doors in order to escort them. They have been told of this day for as long as they can remember, the day they would finally begin their duty as the Pillars, and now it was finally here...

Jake grumbled, rolling around in his sleep. He wasn't very enthusiastic about getting up, and he was even less enthusiastic about having to wear some stupid robe. He sat up with an aggitated look on his face. He climbed out of his bed and went to the bathroom. Jake's care taker soon entered the room. Noting that the bathroom door was closed he assumed that Jake was in the rest room. "Hurry up in there. We'e got a schedule to keep!"His care taker announced. "Do I have to wear that stupid robe thing?"Jake called from the rest room. "Yes."His care taker replied. "Why? Why can't I just stay in here?"Jake replied. "Beause you need to go to that ceremony. It's mandatory."His care taker said, rolling his eyes.
After a short while Jake came out of the bathroom, arms folded across his chest and glaring at the floor. "Alright, let's get this over with."His crae taker said, helping Jake put on his robe. "This is stupid. Why do I have to go to that stupid party thing?"Jake asked in his head.
Once Jake was dressedin his robe his Care taker lead him outside his room. He glanced over at the guard who followed after them. He noticed the guard's gun and tilted his head. "Why do you have a gun?"He asked. "Do you get attackedby zombies alot?"He asked. While Jake's caretaker wasn't the most pleasant person around, he and Jake shared an interest in sci-fi, horror, and fantasy movies. "Uh, no. Zombies aren't real." Jake's Care taker interjected.

Leslie was already awake when Mary came in. She was so excited! She couldn't wait to go out, put on the pretty robe, and be a good Pillar.
While she was for her attendant to help her wash up and dress, she sat on her bed and drew. Mary had given her a big blank book and some colored pencils. She drew pictures of every thing she knew... books, staircases, hallways, chairs, and people. People were the best to draw, because there where so many of them, and they were all different. Big and friendly, thin and caring, short and talkative. She loved people.
Today, Leslie was drawing something special. A strand of light she had seen jumping off a broken wire, and, once, off of Vincent's fingers. She had asked her caretaker about it when she saw the Fixing Men (there were two drawings those in her books already, from the time her one of her lights had broken, and when there was a "fault" in the silver box on the wall by her door) try to put two colorful strings together, but it only caused the spark to jump out. Mary had told her not to think much about "such boring things" but had given her new words as well. Wires. Electricity.
Mary came in and was not surprised to see Leslie already up. "Come along, Pillar. We've got a lot to do." She smiled. Leslie didn't notice that it didn't reach her eyes. "Today's the big day."
The little girl couldn't keep from bobbing up and down and clapping with joy while Mary cleaned her. Today, there would be a feast just for her and her friends. And then she'd get to help people! She was sure she could be the best Pillar ever.
When the caretaker had finally gotten Leslie to stop squirming enough to put on the robe, the girl oohed and ahhed at the pretty sparkles and bluey greeny color. It was perfect. She played with her blond braided pigtails tied with perfectly matching ribbons from Mary. It was like she always said... "You have to appreciate those who shower you in gifts."
Mary led her out into the hall and a new man joined them from near the door. "Hi, my name's Leslie. I'm a Pillar!" The girl prattled on as they walked through the halls of the facility.

Vincent stirred in his bed as the light in his room flickered on, signaling the start of a new day. He opened his eyes and sat up in his bed, letting out a big yawn and rubbing the sleepies out of his eyes. He looked around his room, picture books and toys were scattered all about, but his caretaker let it slide since today was a very big day for him, and for all of the world apparently. Vincent smiled at the thought of it, today was the day he became a Pillar, a savior of the world, it was exciting to say the least.
He held up his hand and glared at it, looking as if he were straining himself to concentrate, and a few moments later, a little blue spark appeared between his fingers. He smiled at the little trick he was able to do, it was something everyone always loved to see. He learned how to do it last year, after sliding out of bed he touched the metal on the door, there was a flash followed by pain in his finger. When he asked what happened his caretaker explained that it was Static Electricity, and ever since then he had been able to recreate the flash between his fingers, with a little effort.
It was such a simple thing, but it fascinated Vincent to no end, and he was told that it was just a taste of what he was capable of as a Pillar, he couldn't wait to see what other amazing things he could do.
Just then his caretaker walked in. "Good morning Pillar, did you sleep well?" Vincent nodded with a large smile on his face. "Good, today's a big day after all, we better get ready." Vincent complied and practically leaped off the bed, darting trait to the bathroom for a bath. He was washed and groomed extra diligently today, there was going to be a festival to commemorate the first day of their training. "You have to look good for the masses." The caretaker helped him put his robe on and with that he was ready to go. He walked out the door with his caretaker and was met with an unusual sight, a man with a full body suit and helmet that covered his face was standing next to the doorway, holding what Vincent recognized as a gun.
"Who's that, another caretaker?" He asked innocently.
"No Pillar, he's here for... protection." That was all he was told before the Protection Man led him and his caretaker down the hall.

Liz had already been awake for at least an hour before her caretaker walked into the room. She was sitting in the corner of the room, playing around with a toy train. She had the tracks of it scattered all over the place, and didn't care to put them together. She just sat there with her knees pulled up to her chin and one arm around them, the other moving the train around in 8-shaped movements.
It were the nerves that had kept her awake at night. The nerves, and the fear. The little girl was well aware of how important this day was, her first day as a mage-in-training. her caretaker had been telling her all about pillars over the course of the past year, and it had frightened her. She didn't understand it all, and didn't want to be part of it either. but at the same time she did feel a glimmer of pride inside of her whenever someone called her "pillar" or "important". It terrified and excited her all at once.
when her caretaker opened the door, he had to push a pile of dolls aside to get in. He sighed, but smiled. "Still?" he asked.
"I don't want them." she replied.
"Fair enough." He put them in the box next to the door, before coming over to the 6-years-old and sitting down next to her. "What's the matter kiddo?"
Liz looked up at the man. He looked great for his age. A man in his mid-fifties that looked as if he had just entered his thirties. Probably the sort of man princesses from her storybooks like. She did admire him in her own way, he was the only human she had been able to trust so far. Not that she had a reason to not trust anyone else... but she just couldn't bring herself to do so.
"I guess it's time?" she asked quietly.
"Yeah. It is."
She released her hold on the train and crawled to her feet, quietly submitting to the gentle treatment of her caretaker. He prepared her bath for her, and while she was in it, allowed him to wash her. She then relaxed for about 15 minutes while he put her clothes ready for her, then left the room to wait outside.
Ever since she could express herself had she claimed she wanted to dress herself. she put on the robes and sighed, brushed her teeth and went outside, where her caretaker was waiting for her.
"Ready? let's go then." he said.
Liz nodded and took his hand with both of hers, staying close by his side. Not a thing was gonna make her let go of that safety.

"Miriela, you have to get up now. It's your big day." The voice of the young girl's caretaker was the first thing she heard as she started to wake up. A gentle hand started to stroke the girl's hair as the voice continued. "You have to get up and get ready so you can be bright and cheery for you first day of training." As the hand moved to pull the covers down slightly, the sleepy girl blinked up at the familiar face of the young woman who was her caretaker. Chuckling, Svina, the caretaker, pulled the girl up from out of her covers to prevent her from burrowing down into the blankets to try to fall back to sleep. "Aw, look at you. I just don't understand how you're always so sleepy."
Yawning, Miriela buried her face into her caretaker's shoulder, not wanting to wake up yet. "Dunno... I'm just sleepy..." She slurred, barely awake enough to think.
"Alright, well, let's get you cleaned up and ready, okay?"
Sleepily, the girl nodded in consent. "'kay..."
Holding the girl tightly, Svina got up and walked to the bathroom and set her down. "Alright, I'll get your bath ready and you can get yourself undressed, okay?"
Miriela obediently wriggled out of her clothing and got into the warm water in the tub as soon as it was ready for her. Then, she let herself sink down in the water so her nose and upper half of her face were just out of the water. Blowing bubbles with her mouth, she was content to sit still as Svina cleaned her hair and scrubbed her clean. When that was done, Svina went to get her clothes while Miriela stayed in the tub a little longer.
Ready to get out, Miriela pulled the plug and got out, grabbing her towel and running to find Svina who was laying out her new robes on the bed. "Oh!" Svina chuckled at the sight and scooped her up, wrapping her in the towel. "Look at you, getting water everywhere, silly." She smiled and dried the little girl off before helping her into her robes.
"It's itchy." Miriela protested, wriggling in her new robe to try to deal with the itchiness.
"I know. I'm sorry. I can't do anything about." Svina combed Miriela's hair out, humming softly.
When Miriela was ready, she took her caretaker's hand and let her lead the way out of the room. She regarded the new door guard with a shy and frightened gaze, hiding her face in Svina's leg to try to hide from him. Why is he here? The little girl wondered to herself, yet unaware of the extent of the changes to come.

Ryan awoke to a soft female voice and he began to open his eyes. He wiped his eyes and got up looking around and at the caretaker, he began to pick up the robe and put it on but his caretaker said "Ryan, don't you think you should go bathe before putting that on?". Ryan stopped and began to walk into the bathroom and clean up, he wanted to begin to train as an mage..he wanted to be the greatest. He came out to the caretaker and she began to dry his wet hair, she put on the black robes and smiled at him.
Ryan followed his caretaker out of the room and noticed the weird looking guard. He was almost scared by the guard's face that had many scars, Ryan tightened his grip onto the caretaker's hand. He looked up at her and his scarlet red eyes were glistening in the sunlight as it came through the windows

Vincent was the first to arrive at the dining hall, his guard stood at the door and his caretaker led him to his seat. He gazed in awe as the table was already set, with all of his favorite foods spread out near his own place setting, he assumed it was the same for the others as well.
"Eat up Pillar, you'll need your energy." His caretaker stated. Vincent nodded and began grabbing pieces of food onto his plate and dug in. Other than the superior cuisine, this part of the morning routine was no different from before; every day he and the rest of the Pillars would eat breakfast together in this very dining hall, but instead of being escorted to the play room, today they would be taken to a festival, a grand party in their honor, and right after words, their first training session to become Pillars begins. He was so excited, he couldn't wait for the other Pillars to get here and finish eating so they could get going. Just then, as if on que, he heard the door open...

"... That's why I think purple is the third greatest color." Leslie entered the dining room room still talking to the New Man. "Okay... So green, then blue, then purple. The reason I think red is the fourth greatest color is-" She no realized the guard wasn't paying any attention to her, and hadn't been for a while. Leslie pouted for a moment, but brightened when she saw her friend.
"Hi Vincent!" She said cheerily, taking her seat next to him. She then saw the food and couldn't help but gape. This was awesome. "Being a Pillar is awesome." She was grinding so widely she could barely put the food in her mouth, but still managed to eat at an alarming speed. She couldn't wait.
"Vincent... Could you do the electricity thing again?" She loved seeing that.

Soon Jake entered with his care taker. He was still grumbling about having to wear this robe, as well as having to go before a alrge crowd for this ceremony. He took his seat adjacent from Leslie and Vincent and began piling food onto his plate. "Don't get too much. The last thing we need is you getting sick and missing your first day of training, as well as missing the ceremony."Jake's care taker said. "I won't get sick."Jake said, beginning to devour his food. "And don't whipe your mouth on your robes. That's rude and kind of gross."Jake's care taker said.
Liz walked into the room with her caretaker as well. Or rather, was ushered into the room. It was obvious that she wasn't too interested in all this public "stuff".
She was sat down at a chair next to Jake, muttering goodmornings to the three other pillars that were already present, and her caretaker put some fruits, bread and cheese on her plate. She immediately pushed it away again.
"I'm... not hungry." she muttered.
As usual when she said that, her caretaker ignored her and put the plate back before stepping back. She looked up at him to see his expression. It was friendly, but slightly commanding. The girl pouted, she knew she wasn't gonna be allowed to leave the table until she finished her plate.

When they came into the dining hall, Miriela balked at the sight of people. Even though she knew the other children were not bad kids, she still got shy. She half-hid behind Svina, who had to more or less drag her to get her to the table. Svina put her into a chair next to Liz. Miriela just shrank down in her chair, trying to pretend to be invisible.
Sighing impatiently, Svina put food onto a plate for Miriela and put it in front of her. Reluctantly, Miriela ate, watching the other pillars out of the corner of her eye. It took her a couple of minutes before she focused on eating, shutting the presence of the others out. Being social wasn't really her forte.

Ryan walked into the dining room and looked around. He didn't like being around other kids and really disliked having to sit down and eat like one big family that he never had. His caretaker pushed him forward and he walked towards the seat adjacent from Miriela, as he took a seat his caretaker fixed him a plate and spsoon sat it infront of him full of foods. Ryan took the piece of bread and began eatting it.
Ryan looked up at his caretaker as he was chewing slowly and said "Why do we all have to eat together..?" he swallowed the food before he said that and continued to look up at his caretaker with his eyes looking as crimson as ever. He finally looked back down at his plate and began to eat again. He always wanted a brother but never had one, Ryan looked at the girl beside him and gave a fake smile before looking back down at his plate as he chewed some of the cheese.

"Oh, you mean this..." Vincent raised his hand and concentrated, causing the spark to appear on his fingers. Leslie seemed pleased, but he couldn't help but notice the guards at the door stiffening a bit, getting a tighter grip on their guns and turning to focus on the young boy. He couldn't see their faces, so he couldn't really tell, but he just assumed they were surprised that he could do stuff without any training. The caretakers had similar reactions the first time he did his trick, and it made him feel confidant about becoming a Pillar.
"Cool right, and we'll all be able to do things like that, and MORE when we start our training!" Vincent said with glee. Leslie seemed to share his excitement, but the others seemed much more... reserved.
"Now Pillar, that is a very... neat trick, but I must ask you not to do anything like that at the ceremony. It uh... might cause the people to get too excited." His caretaker advised. Vincent understood to some level, there were supposed to be a lot of people at the event, and if they all got as excited as he did when he first did it, they might have trouble calming them down. Vincent nodded his confirmation.
"Alright."

"Alright."
"I'd rather turn into a dinosaur instead of make a spark thing."Jake said with his mouth full. "It'd be alot cooler."He added before taking another bite of his food.
Leslie smiled and clapped when she saw the spark appear. She loved that. She wished she could do something like that... But try as she might, no matter how hard she stared at her hand with a scrunched face when she was alone at her room late at night, she never could make anything show up like that. It frustrated her to no end.
Jakes comment surprised her turning into a dinosaur would be really cool. "I don't know what I'd want to do... Maybe heal people? But I wish you could teach me how to make lightning with my hand, Vincent."

Ryan looked over at Vincent and shrugged. "What's so amazing about lightning.." he mumbled under his breath, he finished off half of his plate and was soon full. Ryan looked around and tried his hardest at trying to act friendly but he hated being around people, no matter how kind they were. He took one more bite but couldn't eat much more so he began staring at the guards.
"And a dinosaur? Why a dinosaur when you could be invisible or maybe even make people around you deaf or blind?" he stared at Jake, his scarlet red eyes filled with hatred but the hatred was not directed at Jake...it was directed towards the whole world because he just wanted to explore out of this building.

Miriela visibly cringed when the atmosphere of the room started to feel slightly tense to her. The guards' reaction to Vincent's little trick told her that something was wrong. And when Ryan started to seem combatant, she shrank down in her seat, more so than she'd already been. "It's not very nice to make people blind or deaf." She said very, very timidly, partially afraid of making Ryan turn his visible anger on her. "I like Vincent's trick... and I think if Jake wants to turn into a dinosaur... that's okay too." Her voice got quieter and quieter as she spoke, until she could barely be heard, and then she just pulled her feet up onto her chair so her knees were at chest height and buried her face in her arms, which she had rested on top of her knees.
"Those are all really cool ideas; what I really want to learn how to do is create a lightning bolt as big as the ones in the sky when it rains!" Vincent replied, his arms outstretched to signify the large size of said bolt. "But first I have to figure out how my trick works in the first place. Sorry, I can't really teach it to you, but maybe Sam can, he taught me how to do it!" Everyone's attention was shifted to the boy's caretaker, who looked incredibly shocked at the statement, but quickly hid it.
"P-please Pillar, you don't have to be so modest, I didn't teach you anything." He replied with a plastered on smile on his face.
"Sure you did, I wouldn't have been able to do it without you." Vincent innocently said, which just made the caretaker stiffen. His eyes darted to the guards, one of which had his hand up to the side of his helmet, right where his ear would be, looking as if he was talking to somebody. Sam turned his attention back to Vincent.
"Well, I may have helped a little bit, but you were the one who figured it out, all by yourself." Vincent didn't understand why he was stressing that fact so much, but it was normal for the children to receive such high praise, they were the Pillars after all. Vincent just dropped the subject and bit into a piece of garlic bread.

Liz just sat on her chair, watching the situation unfold. She may have been six years old, but she wasn't stupid. From the way Vincent's caretaker responded to his statement, and the way the guards reacted to it, her little brain had quickly figured out that Sam had at least some magical potential, even though he did try his best to hide it. why?
Liz had always been some sort of an outcast in this small group, she liked keeping to herself. standing aside, watching, observing. Thinking. She enjoyed trying to solve problems with her head. She may not be the best at it, but she liked trying to figure people out.
Little did she know that this could turn out to be a troublesome trait.
