The snow glistened as the wind howled outside the den walls. Ears twitched and nose's wiggled. All senses were on alarm as the hunters passed the burrow. Would she be found? Or would the hounds once more over look the burrow's doorway.
Branches along the tree line swayed in the kiss of the breeze. Sounds of the hunters and hounds easily heard from miles away. So many of them she thought. Surely the king would have a jackalope for super, or make it his pet.
The sound seemed to die off in the distance. Zellurii peeked up towards the den entrance and what she saw was unexpected.
(I would love to have some people add on to this ^.^ Please keep the story flowing and in the sense of the title. Thank you)

A large beast trotted outside the den, unaware of the Jackalope's presence. It shivered inthe cold. It was easily the size of a lion. It's head was similar to a man's, it's tai lwas long and slender, ending in a massive needle-like stinger. It growled. "I hate the cold."The manticore hissed.
A beast well known to any creature, by best of "Manticore". Had passed the den's entrance. Stopping as it shivered within the winters wind. Zellurii held her breath. What if this large creature smelled her presence. She heard the hiss of the way it took in the gasp of air to it's lungs. Hating the winter as much as she did herself.
If she waited just a few minutes perhaps it would leave as quickly as it had come. But...oh no! what if it would take notice of the little fire she had left inside the den. The smoke would soon be rising out to the doorway. She didn't have time to put it out once the hunters had passed by earlier. She became even more nervous then before.

The manticore's ear perked up as it heard the sound of dogs barking in the distance. Amongst the large amount of things this particular manticore didn't like, dogs were included somewhere on that list, just below horses(Though he lvoed their flavor) and right above spiders. He growled before letting otu a lodu echoing tumpet-like roar, scaring off nearly all the creatures in the near by area, save for a pack of wolves, who were clearly put o nedge by the sound, and Grizzly bear who'd been hibernating. It let out another snarl as it heard the wolves howling, before roaring again scaring them off. After a few moments the smell of burning came to its attention. The manticore glanced around, nto seeing any smoke raising into the air, and definitely not feeling any heat. It looked around confused before tracing the scent back to the hole the Jackalope was in. The manticore glanced inside the hole, seieng the Jackalope, and quickly noticing the smoke begining to come out of the hole. "You're hole's on fire."It said, un awrae of if the Jackalope could vocally respond or not.
The lion donned his thick fur-lined cloak, after pulling on a heavy sweater and insulated pants. Tying the cord of his long cloak at his neck, he next pulled on fur-lined heavy leather gloves and boots, and pulled the hood of his cloak up over his head, flattening his ears as he did so.
This cold never suited him well, and it would be some months yet before he could travel to his home, so he would make the best of it. Grabbing a couple of large jugs for water, he exited his cabin and made for the nearby lake, so he could refill his stock of drinking water, a daily routine.
As he made his way, shielding himself from the cold wind and blowing snow as best he could, he saw the manticore standing near what appeared to be a burrow, with smoke rising from it. Cautiously and quietly, he stepped around the back of a tree, and silently set down his water jugs. He'd heard of manticores before, as a child listening to his mothers stories, but never had he seen one.
He stayed behind the tree, glancing around it to observe the scene, trying to remain unseen so as not to disturb him when he heard the manticore speak; the sound startling him so much he stepped on a branch with a loud *SNAP*. He drew a quick breath, hoping the sound was not heard...

Pezvahk's ear twitched when he heard the sound of a twig snapping. Assuming it was a bear or some wolves, he let out a snarl, with his stinger being held up above the ground as he turned. He soon noticed Shasari, quickly realizing the lion was neither, a bear or wolves. He groaned rolling his eyes."And what do you want?"He asked in an irritated tone.
"Please excuse the intrusion" Shasari said politely, looking distinctly nervous and embarrassed "It's just I've never seen one of your kind. I'm sorry, I'll just be on my way." Picking up his water jugs, he started to head in the direction of the nearby lake.
