Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes of the original Ruby/Sapphire games in the XY style. So if you played X or Y, it's that kind of game but set in the Hoenn world with the same characters as back then. In my opinion it's worth it because new things have been added and tons of old features have been given grand makeovers.
Plus if you get a copy now and choose the Mystery Gift option, you get a shiny Beldum.
I just tried to get my free game, but it turns out you need to register both the console and the game between September 1st 2014 and January 12th 2015. As I registered my console on August 29th, I'm not eligible for a free game. 
Oh lordy, so I was house sitting from Wednesday until today and you can bet I played the bananas out of OR.
Now I'm kind of wishing I hadn't. I went too faaast, I want to do the things agaaain! But at least I have the 'dex to fill and Legendaries to hunt after!

I'll just leave this here as a contribution to ORAS and the future of Pokemon. It's a demo, unfinished and rough, but just imagine what we can have in our lifetime!!
