Sly laughed at Jaqulynn "cure!? They can't find one, us conduits are the ones that started the plague. It's here because of us" she was so naive. There was no cure to be found, this was nature's way of ridding itself from the parasite that's eatin away at it's dying body. Humans will all die, only conduits will remain...

"the only way to cure it..." Sly turned back to look at the soldiers that seemed uneasy in their presence "... Is 'shoot to kill'..." they held their guns tight, a steady finger on the trigger.

Sly turned his head, his anger was slowly building "conduit. Freak?" he brushed his hair to one side and rubbed his forehead in frustration "say that again, you're not better than the normals... That's why there can never be peace... Because conduits are 'freaks'..." He gripped his bat tight, waiting for some fight to break out "the doctor's right, Cole's saving us, he's the hero in the end"

"So just a few minutes ago you were threatening to kill me because I asked a question about his friend, and now you're saying the guy that killed his friend is a hero because he killed some innocent girl? Whose side are you supposed to be on?"Jaqulynn asked.

"Oh Sly, it is you who is no better than the Normals." Arsenic stated. "The Conduits have nothing to do with the spread of the Plague, that's just one of the many lies Normals tell each other to justify their treatment of us. The sole cause of the Plague was the very first Ray Field Blast back in Empire City, the blast that also just so happened to create the first activated Conduits." He explained.

"But you are right about one thing, Cole is a hero to some. He is a hero to those vicious Conduits in his army, to the thugs that not too long ago tried to kill you, tried to take the equipment that we so desperately need to treat the victims of the Beast's self righteous destruction. If these are all things that you consider "heroic", then you're right, Cole is indeed a hero."

"Like hell he is." Nick replied. "How can anyone actually believe that what he's doing is right, he's killing people for god's sake!" he exclaimed in anger. He understood that it wasn't that simple, there really was no other cure, and Cole's method may in fact be the only way that anyone survives the Plague, but every time he tried to put himself in the shoes of the Conduits Cole was "saving", all he could remember was the terrified, pleading looks of the poor people who begged Cole for their lives during the Blast, pleads that fell on deff ears.

"No, I don't care if his intentions are good, there's no way that what he's doing is right."

Sly laughed at Arsenic, he said exactly what Sly said, in more English "Doc, you just told me, that the plague started because of a ray sphere activated by the very first conduit" he paced back and forth in a mocking way "so let me get this right, your saying because of a CONDUIT the plague is here. So in different words, the plague monsters are similar to conduits in the fact they both started with the ray sphere. So in any case, you'd have to reverse the ray sphere's blast to kill the plague and since the conduit gene reacts to the ray sphere the reversed ray sphere model won't activate Conduits, right?" he chuckled "no it won't, it'll kill all conduits. So I say again, the plague is here because no one has the juice to power a new ray sphere and the balls to kill millions of conduits around the world" Sly approached the doctor "the plague is here because of a CONDUIT, and it's still here because of a CONDUIT. Everyone knows, the demon of empire state was the one in the middle of the blast. so don't tell me i'm wrong" he stood toe to toe with arsenic "when I'm right"

Sly smiled and brushed the doctor's shoulders. He Then turned to Jaqulynn "oh my god, she just keeps talking" he rolled his eyes "the grown ups are talking sweety, but if you must intervene" he slowly made his way to her "I didn't say what happened to his friend was good, you've never met him before, I was just talking sense into your head, isn't it pushy, asking a guy you JUST met about his dead friend. He was obviously hurt about it and you pushed further asking him HOW she died. That's just plain idiocy on a very high scale. This whole conversation started because of you. You've literally JUST gotten here, and you've already caused a bloody argument, i don't know you, so shut the hell up for your own sake alright" he said with a smile, roughing up her hair

"I'd back up and screw off. For your sake."Jaqulynn said shoving Sly's hand off.

"You're right Sly, it was a Conduit who started the Plague." Arsenic conceded. "But what put you in the wrong is that you said it was because of ConduitITS. Blaming all Conduits for the misdeeds of one is exactly what's pitting Normals against our kind, THAT is is the fallacy that most Normals commit." he clarified. "Sure some Conduits choose to embrace MacGrath's twisted ideals, to just throw around their powers because they can, but what happened today, what you did today, shows that not all Conduits are like that, that some have enough sense, enough compassion to protect those who can't protect themselves, to turn against their "savior" in order to make a difference for both Normals and Conduits. At least I thought you were like that Sly, but Jaqulynn brings up a good point, you defend your friend yet praise the very act that brings him suffering, so tell me, just who's side are you on?"

"you cant tell me to screw off, you just got here, why don't you make me" Sly pushed her, his eyes showed his anger... It was deeper than it seemed.

Sly closed his eyes, maybe he took this whole scenario too far. It wasn't going to accomplish anything "I'm not on anyone's side, I'm just saying what's on my mind. That doesnt change the fact this started because of humanity's inability to accept people who are different"

"Yeah, well the Normals aren't the one's out there destroying the world right now, are they?" Nick rebuked. "It's not the Normals that are turning us against them, it's Cole MacGrath, the Beast, a Conduit. You're right, humans can't seem to really accept people who are different, but can you blame them when there's an army of Conduits out to kill them all just to save their own kind. I'm not saying the Normals are in the right with their "Shoot on Sight" mentality, but the Conduits are definitely in the wrong with their "better than nothing" mentality."

"and I just said all this started with Humans when they were unable to accept conduits in the first place. There's only so much conduits can take"

"Perhaps, but it doesn't change the fact that Conduits are hurting people now, and Normals have no way to defend themselves properly." Arsenic said as he walked back to the group. "So Sly, if you truly believe that this whole thing started because Normals couldn't accept Conduits, then we need to change that, don't we." He walked passed them all, standing at a point were all three could see him.

"To reiterate, Conduits started the Plague, started this war. Whether they did it out of their own selfishness, their own maliciousness, or were driven to it by the intolerances of society, the fact remains that the world is suffering because of Conduits. However, if Conduits put us in this mess, perhaps they can get us out. My organization, the CCD, was created for the purpose of not only defending against hostile Conduits, but to study them, learn from them, I believe that they hold the key to a cure, a real cure, not this horrible back door solution that the Beast is pursuing. Unfortunately, our success rate, on both goals, is very pitiful, the government is threatening to pull the plug if we don't get results soon. Nick, Sly, what you and Evan did today was the embodiment of all I hope to achieve; Normals and Conduits working together for the same goal, however small that goal was." Arsenic was incredibly sincere, it was hard not to hear him out, despite of what you actually thought of his ideas.

"I know, I probably have no right to ask this, but I would like you boys, and you as well Jaqulynn, to come back to our headquarters, help us put a stop to the Beast's rampage, to the destruction and suffering that he brings. It will be a difficult task, and it will take time, but I believe that if you are willing to put in the effort, we can really change things. So, what do you say, are you in?"

Nick was silent for a moment, he didn't really know what to do, this all seemed a little to big and important for him. He never thought in a million years that he would be very deeply involved with Conduits, and now he was one, and was being offered a position in some sort of government agency, it was all a little overwhelming, and quite frightening. His mind drifted back to Sarah, what would she have done if she were in his shoes, as if he needed to ask, he knew that she wouldn't even need an invitation, she would've offer her help up front, she was just that kind of person. Nick looked over to the road and saw the very wheelchair that Sarah spent her last moments in, broken and dented, a shell of its former self, just like the rest of the city. He looked back to the Epicenter of the Blast, the place where Cole MacGrath set off this horrible disaster, he remembered the cold, ruthless look in his eyes, those weren't the eyes of a savior, they were the eyes of a monster. His hands balled into fists as he remembered that moment before the Blast, sound waves pulsing through them just begging to be released, he had his answer.

"I'm in." He finally said, stepping forward. "I don't know what I can really do to help, but if you really think we can stop the Beast, stop this war, then I'm in."

Jaqulynn was equally silent. She had been a conduit for awhile, being caught in another blast before. Since than not a single normal had treated her with anything similar to kindness. Almost any soldiers she'd encountered since she woke up after the explosion had opened fire on her. Why the hell should she help them? But she met a group of conduits. Their powers were definitely different from hers. And they talked to her, and told her that if she joined the Beast's army that she would have a safe place to live, her children would be safe, and she'd be accepted into a new community. How could she pass that up? So she joined Cole's army. She was about to decline before an idea crossed her mind. She had heard that some Conduits could absorb Blast cores and would get stronger through them. If she could absorb blast cores, than maybe she could improve her abilities, and with her abilities, she would be perfect as a spy and Saboteur. "Yeah I'm in."She said.

"there's no way conduits will be accepted..." Sly sighed, he dropped his bat "I need a better weapon than this then, and you guys will provide, something that screams 'run bastards, run'. Something I can bash things with"

He rubbed his forehead, if there was a way to get her back... This was it... "I'm in, if it means getting some juice to power up then hell, I'm in" he turned to Jaqulynn and held his hand out for a shame "let's hope you make a bad move, cuz I'll be first to wipe the floor with your ass, and I don't pull punches" he smiled devilishly

Jaqulynn rolledh er eyes. "I wouldn't count on it jack ass." She said. "So where's your base thing at?"Jaqulynn asked, turning her attention to Arsenic.

Arsenic put a satisfied smile on his face at the group's responses. "It's a couple of states north of here, in Chicago." he answered, taking a look at his watch. "We're just about done here, my transport should be here soon, come, we can wait for it back at the camp." he turned and began walking in the direction of the Rescue Camp, prompting the others to follow. Cars and Buildings were still crumbling and exploding as they walked through the ruins of the city, and yet, it seemed much more peaceful than it did before, the hostile Conduits had seemed to have retreated, all that was left of them was the destruction that they had wrought. Eventually they made it back to the camp, everyone seemed to be packing up, putting equipment away and placing refugees into ambulances for transport. As soon as they returned, a soldier walked up to Arsenic.

"Doctor, the subjects have been secured, they are all ready for transport." he reported, referring to the hostile Conduits Nick, Sly, and Evan had previously defeated.

"Excellent, as soon as our escort is here we'll be on our way." Arsenic replied. The Soldier dismissed himself and went back over to his squad, who helped move the injured refugees. Arsenic then walked over to Evan, who had watched the camp while Arsenic and Sly went looking for Nick. "Evan, how were things, anything happen while we were gone?"

"It was quiet. Kinda boring. We didn't get ambushed or attacked by anyone, so I'm not complaining. They in too?"Evan asked, indicating Sly and Nick. "And whose she?"He aksed, indicating Jaqulynn. "My name's Jaqulynn. I hope it'd be nicer to meet you than him."Jaqulynn said, poiting her thumb at Sly before walking off.

"She is another Conduit we found in the wreckage, and fortunately, she along with Nick and Sly have agreed to join us." Arsenic explained. Just then, the wind began to pick up and the sound of helicopter blades was approaching. "Speaking of which, our ride is here." Six helicopters flew overhead and began to hover. They seemed fully armed with missiles and mini guns, at first glance, they would like like army choppers, and for all they knew, they could've been.

"These choppers will act as our escorts back to Chicago!" Arsenic shouted over the sound of the helicopter blades. "Three of them will follow the ambulances and take them to a proper hospital for treatment, the other three will follow the armored truck back to our Conduit Holding Facility, we'll be riding with them." One of the helicopters dropped down a rope ladder right next to Arsenic who immediately grabbed onto it and started climbing.

Evan nodded and climbed up the ladder to the chopper. So far today was probably the most unusual day of his life. One minute he's walking down the street, the next he has green skin, claws, and can grow some kind of spike or thorn out of his body, i addition to the recently added tree bark and tendrils or vines or whatever. And now he was part of some government organization.

Jaqulynn climbed up shortly after Evan. So far she just landed a job sabotaging and spying on the Beast's enemies, and so far no-one had any idea she was in Cole's army. Hell, the only person who would have any reason to even assume that would be Sly, and even then she believed any assertions he may have in the future without evidence could just be written off as him being an asshole.

Sly stayed silent, he was conflicted about... Her. How was he to make things better now that this has happened...

The helicopters caught Sylvester's attention. They were a snap back to reality, he had to carry on. Fate was to decide how it would play out. After everyone got onto the chopper, Sly jumped up, an ice pillar launched him at the right speed and height right into the chopper "don't forget the weapon you now owe me doc" Sly shouted so Arsenic could hear.

The only one Sylvester is weary about is Jaqulynn, she came from no whereally asking questions about things that didn't concern her. She was at the top of his list, he was gunna keep a close eye on her.
