Arsenic seemed to disregard Genevieve's retraction of her question and answered it nonetheless. "Well Genevieve, the truth is Animals also possess the Conduit Gene, so their situation is not very much different from our own." He explained. "We do in fact test experimental drugs and vaccines on animals, and if the results are positive we move on to human testing, but other than that here's not much we can learn from them that we can't learn from simply examining human Plague victims."

"So basically we're all in the same boat." Nick reiterated. "Well, if the Beast has his way then at least humans won't be last living thing on Earth, they'll have Conduit Animals to keep them company." There was a bitter tone in his statement, but one could tell that it was meant to be a joke as well. Nick turned to Genevieve and cracked a smile. "It was a good idea, but nothing's ever that simple when it comes to Conduits I guess. Make sure to speak up if you have any more good ideas, anything helps." He said in a comforting and encouraging manner, hoping to ease her obvious anxiety with the group.

Genevieve listened to Dr. Arensic's explanation to her question. She wasn't as embarrassed and shy once he explained it to her. This made her feel slightly more comfortable in the group, but she still acted a little shy around everyone. This was going to take a little more time getting used to, but Nick's encouragement was helping her open up a little more. Geneviève's lips curled into a small smile because of Nicks encouragement and she nodded. "Understood..."

Evan was relatively silent. "Are plants effected by the plague as well? Or is it just organisms like animals and humans?"He asked.

"Ray Field Radiation effects plant life the same way any other harmful radiation does, but you can't really say that a plant has caught the Plague since the term specifically refers to the negative reaction of the radiation poisoning on a person or animal's immune system, but that's just semantics. Bottom line is plants are for the most part unaffected by the Plague merely because of their nature, similar to Conduits, so unless you're suggesting we turn all of humanity into plants, it's not going to help us."

Sly listened In, he had one ear on them but the rest of him looked through all the weapons, there were some interesting designs. They were all put in classes, certain types of conduits could use certain weapons. There was a neon rifle and a katana with an amp on it to electrify it when touched by an electric conduit.

There were two items that caught his eye, they may be weapons but they didn't look finished. They was merely a hilts of melee weapons. Out of curiosity he grabbed the two, they were classedunder moulding type conduits, maybe like concrete and ice. They were light and easy but how was he to find out what they do when there was no instructions or on switch.

Intrigued as what they did he asked one of the technicians that were designing and creating these weapons.
"well, try thinking of a certain melee weapon" the technician said slowly pushing Sly back in the testing square. It was an outlined yellow and black square. When the technician backed out an icy dagger formed as the blade. The surface of the dagger was smooth and just as he imagined it "oh man, this is gunna be awesome" Sly was excited
"remarkable, you're the first moulding type conduit to actually create a physical elemental blade..." the technician said in excitement, he pressed buttons on his keypad recording the findings. He rolled a dummy into the square and motioned for him to attack it. Sly nodded and waited for the technician to back out. Sly slid one of the hilts into his pocket and grabbed the other with both hands, an icey grey katana blade formed on the hilt just as Sly imagined it and cut the dummy completely in two. The technician was baffled, what other molding type conduits failed to accomplish, Sly succeeded. Everything was already recorded on camera and the technician walked off without saying a word, typing away frantically on his ipad.

"so basically, you guys have tried everything and still can't find a cure? You're still thinking about using a reverse engineered ray sphere?" Sly said approaching the group, he placed his new weapons into some holster he found for them.

"Hostile conduits attacking from south and east quadrants, all friendly Conduits required" a female voice said throughout the HQ Sly looked at Arsenic for orders, this was his facility so it's his say on what happens...

Arsenic heard the alarm and rushed over to the group, the other scientists scrambling to get their research in a safe place. "It looks like we were followed, I guess MacGrath isn't too happy about what you did to his forces back at the Blast sight." He said. "Listen, any hope of a peaceful solution to this fiasco is in this building, we have to defend it at all costs, and that's where you all come in. Nick, Sly, you go and deal with the Conduits at the East Quadrant, Evan and Jaqulynn, you go to the South, and Genevieve, you stick with me, just do as I say and help in anyway you can." he gave the group their instructions, this was it, their first real assignment as a "Conduit Resistance" team of sorts, they couldn't afford to fail now. "Now, go!" He said, prompting the group to disperse to their various positions.

"Jaqulynn..." Said a faded, distant voice in Jaqulynn's head not long after she separated from the rest of the group. "Jaqulynn, can you hear me, it's Cole. I'm talking to you through a psychic link, only you can hear me." He assured her. "Don't talk, just listen, one of our scouts told me you left with that Arsenic and his little band of traitors, I must say I'm disappointed, I thought we were getting along swimmingly. However, you are a unique position, you may have more use to our cause than I thought. Right now the Conduits that I sent chasing after you should be attacking their HQ, there aren't too many of them, and if these traitors are as powerful as I've heard, they'll be taken down relatively easily, but don't worry, I don't intend to just leave them to rot. When you get the chance, ask the good doctor about a Derek McCormick, once you get the answer, you'll know what to do. I'll be in touch, don't fail me." His consciousness then disappeared from her mind, leaving her with her own thoughts once again.

Nick and Sly ran to the East Quadrant, weaving through scientists and other conduits on the way. Eventually they made it to their destination, a sort of storage area filled with important looking equipment, there was a hole in the steel wall where the Conduits were entering from.

"It's the traitors, get them!" One of the Hostiles said before firing a Neon Blast at the two. Nick ducked, narrowly evading the projectile. He looked around then refocused on the intruders.

"Alright Sly, there's a lot of important equipment in here, so so we can't just go trigger happy on these guys, looks like we'll have to get up in their faces." he suggested. "Let's see what that new weapon of yours can do." With that, the boys charged into the crowd of Conduits, evading Neon, Concrete, Fire, and even Paper blasts. Eventually, Nick was able to get up to one of the Conduits, he shot an Audio Bullet into his face to distract him, allowing him to get in close. Nick reared his fist back and threw a punch to the Conduits jaw, now Nick wasn't a physically strong person, he didn't expect the punch to do much, but just as the strike made contact with the Conduit, the sound of the impact was amplified, increasing the punch's force greatly. Nick followed up with an uppercut and then finished with a kick, all amplified by the sound of impact, this was one of the powers he got from the Blast Core, Acoustic Strikes.

"Whoa, did I really just win a fist fight?" Nick said with awe at himself, but it was short lived as he had to dodge a Paper Bomb and refocus on the battle, he shot a couple of Audio Bullets and then rushed up to the next Conduit, letting loose his Acoustic Strikes on them.

Geneviève immediately covered her eyee at the sound of the alarm. She felt scared and somewhat confused. What was going on? What was happening? Everyone was just talking for a second and then everything just suddenly went into panic. While scientists were running frantically trying to grab important papers and the Doctor started giving directions. Geneviève had her ears, with a lost expression on her face. This was certainly a sudden change of events.

People running up and down the hallway, they all disappeared so quickly.

It wasn't long before everyone was running to their positions and scientists evacuated towards safety. Thehallway was already a flshing empty area in an instant. Geneviève was so lost it was hard for her to focus on the doctors directions."Genevieve, you stick with me, just do as I say and help in anyway you can." But what could Geneviève possibly do?

"Gladly" Sly said with a smile. He pulled out the hilts and formed two icy katanas. He emerged from the corner charging at his powered up concrete foe. The hostile concrete conduit shot concrete shrapnel at him but Sylvester was quick to dodge, lunging directly at him using an ice pillar. As soon as Sly was about to make impact, he plunged both his Katanas into his enemy's heart then used his body as a shield as he charged at the others behind him, impaling them all on his icy blades. A few of them were alive but the Sly's blades froze them up before they could do anything. Sly snapped the blades from their hilts and put the hilts in their holsters "Over ere, keep firing" more enemies charged through the doors forcing Sly to vault over cover. Sly looked over at Nick
"Dude, i need to use my grenades, they're overpowering us" Sly yelled over the beams and shots being fired at them "The equipment is not our priority right now"

Nick punched one last Conduit out cold just to have more flow in through the hole. Nick knew they had to change tactics, but the equipment was also very important to the work the CCD was doing, he had to save as much as he could. As he thought about it, he came up with another idea.

"Sly, switch places, I'll use my Grenades to stun them, then you go in for the kill." He said. His Pitch Grenades weren't destructive, they were simply noise makers to stun opponents, if he could slow them down enough with them, then maybe Sly could fight back more effectively. Nick rushed over to Sly and hid behind the same cover Sly was. "Get going man, I'll cover you!" he assured. He charged a grenade in his hand and lobed it over the cover, it detonated and three Conduits stopped firing to cover their ears in pain. "Don't worry, the Grenades only effect those in the original blast radius, you'll be fine." He threw a couple more, incapacitating more of the attackers. "Get them man!"

Sly nodded and waited for the Bullets to stop, he waited for Nick's mark and vaulted over cover then once again lunged at his opponents using his ice pillars. Sly pulled out his hilts and formed dagger blades onto them. He needed to kill them quickly.

A rage was boiling inside him, that's the reason he can kill, that's the reason for showing no mercy. Sly slit one of the enemy's throat, he dropped like a sack of potatoes. He charged at another dodging a hook and bringing his left dagger to his enemy's shoulder and his right dagger to his enemy's left temple. A pipe must' have busted because Sly was losing juice and he needed water to power up. He placed his hands in the large water puddle and soaked in part of it before freezing it completely with his foes. They were prone to attack and a single ice bullet shattered them into tiny pieces.

"Dude we need to hurry, the Doc might need us" Sly called out to Nick, it was an obvious indicator that the enemies were dealt with.

Evan and Jaqulynn headed towards the South Quadrant of the building. "So, what can you do exactly?"Evan asked. "Uh, I think you'll be seeing that in a few moments."Jaqulynn said. Soon the reached the South Quadrant. There were several soldiers ther, but they were quickly being killed off. Several Concrete Conduits had created a barrier of concrete, while a few othe rconduits launcehd volleys of neon, glass, concrete, and other elements and abilities from behind their cover. "You've got a ranged attack right?"Jaqulynn asked. Evan nodded. "And a shield."He said, activating his shield power, as well as his thorns. "Alright, you cover the soldiers and keep the conduits distracted. I'll get behind them and take them out."Jaqulynn siad, heading off. Evan nodded, holding his arm out and a slightly raised angle, before launching a storm of his thorns, which arched over the Conduits' cover and stabbed into various conduits behind it.

Jaqulynn found a spot where she would be bale to climb up to circle back to the conduits, but behind their cover. She climbed up following the path back around, and jumped down behind the conduits. With a series of sickening pops and snaps Jaqulynn's left hand seemed to grow. Her fingers lengthened and came to points, soon converting into teeth, as her hand morphed into a powerful maw. Her other arms seemed to meld into a long tendril. The conduits turned, quickly being caught off guard by Jaqulynn, several being thrown over their cover and being killed off by the soldiers. Her maw bit down into a conduit, biting down with enough force to snap the bone in the conduit's arm. She began slamming him around, while using her tendril to whip at the others. Evan took his chance with the Conduits being distracted. His thorns retracted into hsi arm, with another shield forming. He climbed over the Conduits' cover and began slamming his shields into the Conduits. Soon the conduits were beaten, with both having killed plenty and knocked a few of them out. "Should we kill 'em?"Evan asked. "No, I think we might be able to get some information out of them."Jaqulynn said, beginning to form another plan in her head.

Dr. Arsenic typed away at a computer, securing as much data as he could as a precaution should the hostile Conduits break through. Genevieve stayed at his side, she seemed rather nervous.

"It's alright Genevieve, everything is going to be alright." He assured. Just then, a beeping could be heard from a radio kept at Arsenics side. "Yes, what is it." He said as he answered it.

"The South and East Quadrants have been secured sir, we are preparing to take the captured hostiles in for questioning." Said a voice from the radio. Dr. Arsenic let out a sigh in relief.

"That's good to hear, tell the new arrivals to report back when they're ready." He responded before hanging up. "It's over now Genevieve, you don't have to worry anymore." He said to the girl. He then turned back to his computer and continued his work. Little did he know, a strange shadow was creeping in through the cracks in the door, they crawled all around the room before they began to hone in the terminal Dr. Arsenic was working at. The shadows then began to pop out of the ground, looming over the doctor, ready to strike, but before they could, Arsenic summoned a pillar of wires, piercing the strange shadows and causing them to retreat. The shadows dissipated and were replaced by four humans.

"Shadow Conduits!" Arsenic said. The Conduits began firing bolts of dark energy at Arsenic, the doctor, bringing forward a wall of wires to protect him and his charge. "Genevieve, I need you to listen to me." Arsenic said, kneeling down and taking the girl's hands in his. "That wall will not hold them off forever, I need you to use your powers to protect me while I secure the data in the system." He summoned three strands of wire from the band around his wrist and placed them into the lock on Genevieve's gloves, unlocking them and allowing the doctor to take them off. "Just fend them off for a little while, kill them if you must, just don't let them past you." He instructed, looking at the girl in the eye to make sure she was paying attention. "Just remember what you learned here, you'll be fine, now go!" He lowered the wall and went back to the computer, hoping that Genevieve would be able to protect him.

Geneviève listened to the directors orders and stayed with the docltrs orders. She still felt nervous aboit the whole sudden invasion event, but the doctors calm voice seemed to lower the stress on Geneviève a little. She nodded at the doctor with a cracked smile on her face, watching hkm work while keep watch. They're was nothing better for Geneviève to do, but doing nothing was going to solve nothing.

Geneviève kept watch at the door while the doctor was sitting at his desk trying to secure data. The room was completely silent. Not a sound to be heard, but from a small radio. Geneviève couldn't help but stamd up in excitment after hearing the good news. The south and east quadrants have been secured, so that meant less people to worry about.

"That means the band on conduits are safe, no?" Geneviève siad with a small grin on her face. "Phew...I kimda doubted us for a second. Well, maybe a half a second." She laughed, the great news of relief was one boilder off Geneviève's shoulders. But that good news started to shatter when something statted oozing out of the cracks of the door.

Geneviève quickly pointed darted at the door and then at the floor. "No, no, no, no..." Geneviève mumblee as she shook her head jn disbelief. They couldn't of found them oit this quickly?

Geneviève watched as the shaows made there way into the room, taking the time to figure out what were they and what they were aiming for. It didn't take her lomg to figire out what she was seeing were shadow conduits, she learned in her earlier training.

Conduits that can reanimate their bodies into black-clear substance.

Geneviève tried to action, before the shadow conduits could attack, bit they were quicker then her. Geneviève ran after the shadows beofre they could lay a hamd on the doctor, but it was too late. "Doctor...!" Geneviève cried as the shadows darted at the doctor, but beofre all hope was lost a peer of wires suddenly appeared, forcing the shadows in a retreat.

But that wasn't the only trick left up those wretched conduits plan. The shaodw conduits soon turned into their true forms after the doctors defensive attack and were blasting dark energies at the doctors small wall of wires. Geneviève needed to do something, but what could she do?

Until the doctor toom her hands and looked her dead in the eyes. He had a very important task for Geneviève, as she could tell on the serou expression on his face. Geneviève looked up at the doctor, sinking in every single word from his mouth. She nodded her head and smiled in understanding, "alright! I'll give em H-E double toothpicks, sir!" Geneviève said proudly, standing up from her position.

Geneviève finally took action as she ran from behind the safety of the wires and out in the open of the room replaying the doctors words in her head.

"Just fend them off for a little while, kill them if you must, just don't let them past you."

Geneviève stood in front of the averaged sized conduits. She revisioned the training she learned after and beofre she arrived here. Geneviève toom fighting position. I haven't done Savate in two years, so I'm a still really rusty on on the edges she thought. This is no time to be negative. Just slow you breathing and keep your legs out.. Im the mist of th Geneviève's thiking she could feel a sharp pain going through her stomach.

She heard multiple soumds of droops from the floor. Geneviève slowly looked down to see a blacl spear doing through her body, along with her own blood that was leaking on the floor. She could her the cold laughing of her attacker and for other conduits laughing at her sudden defeat.

The conduit violently pulled his shadow weapon out of Geneviève and watched her drop onto the floor with look of death on her face. The blold didn't take long to spread and the conduits went back to their mission. One of the conduits raised their weapon at the doctors sheild, while ome of the comduits took notice at something stange going on with their defeated opponent. "G-guys look.." one of the conduits pointed, "what is it, man? She's dead use ypir power and start shooting already!" Ordered another comduit, but the fearful conduit shook his head in disbelief. "N-no her blood her blood is what?!" Asked the annoyed conduit staring at Genevièves limp body. "The blood is flowing ba---ARGH!" At the blink of an eye the werey conduit was reduced to floor by the swift kick of Geneviève's leg. She was not screwing this mission up.

Sly stormed down the hallways in search of the doctor and the girl. He tossed his weapons to the side, they sparked up and failed on him. He picked up a steel bat that one of the conduits brought in.

Sly stopped halfway down the hallways he was Running, Nick stumbled into him "oh shit" he said under his breath, his eyes widening in realisation. The Convicted conduits! Sylvester darted in the opposite direction he was running in earlier and reached the 'Cells'. His suspicions were true... The convicts were free...

Sly wanted to go after them but his friends were in danger. He rqn back the way he was initially running, past and few demolished hallways until he spotted the doc and Genevieve. He saw the enemy conduits. He took hold of his bat and ice it up killing as many conduits were in the room at the time. He didn't want anyone to kill, he did so that they wouldn't have to "Gene, doc, the prisoners, they're all gone..."

"Calm down Sly, they haven't escaped, they've just been moved." Arsenic assured. "After the alarm sounded we moved all of the inmates to an underground shelter, we couldn't risk the trespassers making contact with them." Arsenic typed on the computer and pulled up live surveillance footage of all the captured Conduits, still bound by their cuffs, all gathered in a small underground shelter, guarded by armed soldiers. "This doesn't seem to have been a rescue operation, the Conduits entered through the entrances that were furthest from the Holding Facility, and the fact that we were attacked by Shadow Conduits, who could very easily have entered the Holding Facility and freed the Conduits, shows that their priority was not to release the captives. But if so, then what was it?" He mused. He then grabbed his radio and turned it on. "Gomez, send Evan and Jaqulynn back here, we need to reconvene." Arsenic instructed.

"Yes sir, right away." the soldier on the other end responded.

"Nick, status report, can you remember anything that these Conduits did that could tell us what they were doing here?" He asked.

"Uh, not really, they just sort of attacked us." Nick replied, trying to think of what they could've possibly wanted. "I mean, they did enter through a place with a lot of important looking equipment, maybe they were just trying to sabotage you guys?" He suggested unconvincingly. "I don't know, I didn't exactly get a chance to ask them as they were blasting us with lasers and paper shurikens." He defended. "But, we did manage to capture a few of them, luckily I took out a few before Sly went all cut throat on the rest, maybe they can tell us something." He suggested.

It wasn't long before Jaqulynn and Evan arrived. "Everyone alright?"Evan asked when he entered the room.
