Emy sat back, putting on her hood and smirked. ''Good for her..'' She thinked, making the class work in silence and turned around to Vincent, still smirking. She letted out a little laugh and turned back around, making her work. After, she got to next class, again, making her work in silence and waiting for the end of the day.
It was lunch time and the group of friends were reminiscing of the spectacle from before.

"And when those fleas started crawling all over her, haha, man I almost died of laughter." Marshal stated, letting out a laugh.

"I'm just glad you were able to turn the tables like that." Vincent said. "Now if she ever curses you like that again that doesn't involve fleas, come find me or Marshal, we'll despell it." He offered. Just then, Miranda and her clique stomped into the lunch room right up to them. She slammed her hand on the table right in front of Emy.

"You think you're real smart don't ya?" She growled at her. "Well you may have one the battle, but you sure as hell haven't won the war, you'll learn your place soon enough, count on it." She threatened right in Emy's face.

"Not if I have anything to say about it." Vincent said as he stood up from his seat. Miranda turned her attention to him.

"Oh I haven't forgotten about you Vincent, but a fair warning, if you insist on protecting this little mutt than it's open season on you to."

"It doesn't have to be like this Miranda, just walk away and leave us alone, she hasn't done anything to you." Vincent practically pleaded.

"Its eat or be eaten Vincent, if a queen doesn't keep her subjects in line, well, she's hardly a queen then is she?" Vincent was silent, there really was no reasoning with her, he would just be wasting his breath if he said anymore. Miranda then flipped her hair and turned to leave, Vincent glaring at her back until she was out of sight. He let out a sigh and sat back down.

''A queen? Hehehehe.. you're funny Miranda.. The only reason why you have a little group is because they fear you and dont want to deceive you. Because if they did deceive you, they would get humiliated.. You're not a queen..'' Emy replied, adjusting her glasses. ''Dont worry, Miranda. I can battle too..'' The wolf-girl muttered as the girls got away. ''I dont think they like snowballs..'' She thinked, wanting to throw snowballs in their clothes to humiliate them.
Vincent was practically depressed for the rest of the day, Miranda's threats were eating at him worse than the fleas were to Emy. Once class was over he calmed down enough to really think about everything, he felt like he was worrying about it more than Emy herself was, lately she seemed much more... strong willed towards Miranda, she seemed to be more than capable of handling herself for the most part, perhaps he was just worrying to much. However, Vincent still couldn't just let things be, if this truly did turn into a "war" there was no doubt in his mind that Emy would lose, Miranda would either break her or, more likely, get her expelled, her self getting off scott free as usual. Vincent was starting to feel like an idiot for promising to help Emy out, he didn't regret it one bit, but he couldn't really do anything about it, it was incredibly frustrating. He let out a loud sigh, about to just drop the subject for the day and head back to his room. However, he was brought out of thoughts by a peculiar pattern he noticed among the students. He found that most of the kids that he was passing were all pairs, and they always consisted of one Mage and one Non-Mage, but the biggest indicator is that they all had some sort of paper in their hands.

"What's going on here?" He inquired aloud. He turned the corner and saw a group of students gathering around a table as some teachers handed out what seemed to be forms to them. He looked at the wall behind them and saw a poster that explained it all. It was a poster for the upcoming annual "Grand Quest Competition", the closest thing that Magical Academies had to a sporting event "Oh, now it makes sense, I guess it is around the time for the preliminaries." Vincent stated, thinking nothing of it. However, after a moment of staring at the poster, he realized that it depicted last year's champions, Miranda and her partner Pierce. At the same time, he could hear people talking about them.

"I can't believe Miranda has actually won twice in a row, that's going to be tough to beat."

"I can't wait to face off against Pierce, the guy's a legend."

It was strange, he knew Miranda and Pierce were popular, but when it came to the Quest, they were practically celebrities, even to the people who knew her malicious nature. In fact, if he remembered correctly, it was her victory during her freshman year that solidified her standing in the school...

"... wait a minute, wait. a. minute. That.... that could work, that could work!" Vincent exclaimed, pushing through the crowd to get to the table. "I need two entrance forms please!" he said to the teacher working the desk."

Seeing and hearing hell-alot of students in the hallways, Emy walked towards them, looking at the posters and hearing students talk about Pierce and Miranda. After a couple minutes of looking at the posters, she saw Vincent in the crowd. The girl tried to wave at him and to get noticed but there was alot of noise. The wolf-girl disapeared in the crowd, re-appearing behind Vincent and poking his shoulder. ''Why is it so noisy here?'' She tried to say, throughtout the screams and conversations. As they got to a more quiet place, Emy looked at him confused. ''What's with this weird tournament thingy?'' She asked, curious and excited about fighting.
"Emy, just in time!" Vincent said, approaching her with the forms in hand. "Listen, I think I might've found a way to get Miranda off your back." He stated, gaining the half-breed's interest. "Have you ever heard of the Grand Quest Competition?" He asked, shocked when the girl shook her head. "Seriously? Well, whatever, it's this tournament of sorts that the Magical Academies hold every year, it's like the olympics or collage football for the Magical World, apparently it was meant to deepen the bonds between Mages and Non-Mages back when the schools first became "Co-Ed"." he explained.

"Now you see that poster, Miranda and her boyfriend Pierce are the reigning champions, two years running, it's the main reason why she's so popular despite being a total witch, winning that tournament means instant popularity and respect. Now, this gonna sound crazy, but if you enter this year, beat Miranda, and win the whole thing, not only will it really humiliate her, but gain you the respect and admiration of the entire school, Miranda wouldn't dare mess with you after that. I know it's a little bit of a long shot, but I think this is the only sure fire way to get her to back off." he insisted, handing her the two forms. "So, what do you think?"

''That. Sounds. Totally. AWESOME!'' Emy replied, smiling and happy just thinking about Miranda stoping. ''Do Non-Mages fight the non-mages?'' She asked, interested.
"Pretty much." Vincent replied. "You see, the Grand Quest Competition is sort of a co-op tournament, with teams of one Mage and one Non-Mage competing. Usually the Non-Mages do most of the fighting while their Mage partners back them up with their magic. The rules differ from match to match, sometimes the Mages go out in the field with their partners, or use an Alter to assist their partners from afar, the latter is usually the case for the finals." He explained.

"So you if you're up for it, you can sign up for the preliminaries, make the top three and you move on to the main competition. Of course, before you do that, you're gonna need a Mage partner."

''Does my ice/snow count as magic?'' She asked, thinking about a plan. ''I'm up for that. Even if i dont win, it still can make like a training.'' Emy said, stopping thinking and hitting the table with her fist. ''Hmm.. the only problem is.. i dont have a mage partner..'' The wolf-girl said, now thinking of someone and realising Vincent could be her partner. ''Would you be my partner?'' She asked, hoping for a yes.
"Huh, me?" Vincent replied, surprised by the offer. "Well... I don't know, I've never really used magic... competitively before so..." He attempted to refuse, but one look at her pleading and hopeful eyes and he found himself unable to turn her down, especially since it was his idea in the first place.

"...Sure, I'll be partner." Vincent said, grabbing one of the forms to fill out.

''Yuuuuh! Thanks!'' Emy replied, smiling and filling the paper. ''We are going to kick their buuuutt!'' She said, so excited about the fight. ''When does it start, exactly?'' The girl asked, finishing filling the paper.
"The preliminaries start in about a month, the top three teams will represent the school in the in the full tournament." Vincent explained as he filled out the form with his personal information. "We don't have much time to train, so we should probably get cracking right away. Here, we need to sign each other's forms." He said, handing her his form.

''Okay.'' She replied, handing him her form. ''If we dont have that much time, i'll be practicing until midnight.'' Emy said, ready to do anything.
"Here you go ma'am." Vincent said, handing the completed forms to the teacher at the desk. She examined them, making sure everything was as it should be, and then nodded.

"Yep, everything seems to be in order. Alright, you two are officially entered into the Grand Quest Competition, good luck out there." She stated with an encouraging smile.

"Thank you." Vincent replied politely. "Alright, we're in, we don't have class tomorrow, so how about we meet up at the training grounds to start our training." He suggested.

''Heck yeah!'' Emy thinked, happy, as her eyes turned to a bright orange. ''I dont have class either, so sure.'' She said, already flexing her legs and running on place. ''I'm so excited to fight!'' The girl said, still smiling more then ever.
Vincent couldn't help but but chuckle at the girl's enthusiasm, perhaps this wouldn't be so bad after all. "Well, I guess we're all set. Get a good night's sleep tonight, it may be your last one for a while." he said with a hint of sarcasm.

"Hehehe. Youre not the one who needs to train physically!" Emy answered, jokingly, still smiling as her eyes turned to a mix of happy orange and Shy purple.
"Hey, it takes a lot of physical stamina to constantly cast spells one after another, so I'm no slouch when it comes to exercising." Vincent rebuked playfully. "But it's true that most of my training will be training of the mind, and for a mage, that's probably equally as strenuous, trust me, we're both in for a rough ride here."

Emy began to laugh and playfully punched his shoulder. "See ya tomorow!" She said, smiling and walking back.
"Yeah, see ya." Vincent replied, rubbing his arm. He then looked back at the poster, glaring at the image of Miranda in both spite and determination. "...we're going to win, we have to." He said to himself, barely above a whisper before turning his back on it and exiting the hallway.

Before going back to his dorm, he stopped by the library and picked up a copy of the rules and regulations for the Competition, taking an extra copy in case Emy didn't get one. He turned in for the day, giving the book a quick skimming, getting familiar with the basics before setting his alarm and going to sleep.
