I really do apologize if I skimmed over this as a suggestion previously mentioned. I have a habit of missing these things, even though I do look.
My suggestion is a simple one, and hopefully a doable one at that. When I create character profiles, sometimes I don't want to delete them, but I do want their entire profile to be hidden / entirely unsearchable, and not just shown as played anonymously. The reason for this is because sometimes that character goes inactive, or I'm redoing the look of the site and like to save frequently, even when it's still a mess, to assure that I don't lose much progress if my browser / computer were to crash.
I think this is a good idea, if it's not somehow already doable and I'm just a big dumby for missing it. xD This helps keep our characters profiles we worked hard on still there and available to unhide when we're ready. I also believe that the feature should obviously not hide these profiles from staff (for obvious moderation reasons), and that when linked to a hidden profile perhaps display a simple page that informs the viewer that this profile is currently hidden by the player.
That said, thanks for reading! Let me know if you think this is a worthwhile idea, or perhaps one that only I seem interested in, because that's good to know, too. xD I hope others will find it helpful as I imagine it would be, though.
The "Unlisted" setting sounds more like what I'm looking for. However, I'd like a hidden feature as well, though unlisted sounds handy itself. Hidden would be more for others like myself who may be editing a profile or leaving it inactive even to those who may already have a link to the website. This way, even if a character is unlisted, I would imagine those with a link could still view it. If there was a hidden mode, nobody but site admins could view it until you chose to unhide it. Similar ideas, for sure, but not -quite- the same!
I'm not sure I understand the point/see the value in this kind of thing when an unlisted feature is already being considered. Completely private profiles that only you can see are pretty pointless on a site that focuses on connections and sharing. To put resources into this because you're uncomfortable with someone seeing your WIP doesn't feel like a good enough reason. Unless you'd actively share the link, nobody will see the profile when it's unlisted until you change that setting, so why would the unlisted feature not cater to what you're suggesting?
I'm also worried about potential issues with rule-breaking content here. It would be incredibly easy to create a profile to harass someone or contain/request illicit content roleplays, and then hide the profile after the targeted people saw it. While Kim can look up a character like this no problem, moderators can't access this kind of private information (which I'd prefer actually for a number of reasons), and realistically speaking the potential for abuse is still huge if people don't collect the necessary information on time and the profile becomes hidden again. The mods can't find things without information.
If people seeing your WIPs bothers you so much, why not write out the information in Notepad or Word or a Google Drive document and when you have everything put together, you can copy and paste it into the profile? Nobody will think less of you for having a WIP though - it's expected on profiles to always have some kind of WIP going on especially when they're newly created.

Chiming in my two cents here!
I have to agree with Sanne. Also, I'd say that at least 50% of the characters on RPR are somehow 'in the works', so people are really understanding about it. I've seen many people put a disclaimer on their profile saying it's a WIP, a work in progress.
So basically, I feel that this situation has a much easier remedy than any site upgrades, because the community here is very understanding.

I do want to add unlisted profiles in the near future! Undecided on "hidden" profiles, however.
Ahh well, fair enough! I'm glad unlisted is at least being looked into. Thank you all for your feedback. I'm a little bummed out no one else seems to find this useful but, eh. What can ya do.
