Anybody who has ever been in a tabletop RP has surely witnessed at least one hilarious botched roll. Please share your experiences!
rolled 1d20 and got 7
Not a 1 please
We had a player in our group who always rolled fantastically, like, to the point that sometimes it was hard to believe he wasn't cheating. However, he always botched at the absolute most critical moments.
One of his characters was a gambler. We had a plot that hinged on him winning a major poker game in order to save our necks. It was set up such that everyone in the competition could lose three games before being removed from the tourney. He didn't strike out once until the final hand... Just him and one other person. That person had a single strike left -- all he had to do was not botch at least once in the next three rolls.
He rolled a 1 three times in a row.
Another time, at the end of a year long (that was in real time! In game time it had been more like five years) quest to find an asteroid with all the treasure of an ancient space emperor hidden on it, his hacker character was supposed to disarm some ancient, outdated, now-easy-to-cope with security systems so we could loot the place, for the biggest payoffs of our lives.
After his previous experiences of critical botches, he'd given his character the trait "Lucky," which meant he got one re-roll per session of his choosing.
Botched it. Cashed in his free re-roll... Botched it again. We had an hour before the asteroid completely imploded. We managed to get two wheelbarrows of stuff out, instead of a moon-sized payoff.

There is some sort of cosmic entity with an immense hatred for whoever that is looking down upon your roleplays. Whatever he did to anger the random number god, I'll never know.
I don't have any notable stories about this myself, I was just astounded by Kim's tale of horrid luck. That being said, let's see what comes up on a random d100 roll...

rolled 1d100 and got 17
You sure we haven't table topped together, Kim? That sounds like the story of my gaming life, lol.
rolled 1d20 and got 16
For giggles
Are you sure that entity isn't Vas punishing Kim for all the humiliations he had suffered on this site?
I don't really play in tabletop games, but I do occasionally give a roll of the die during freeform just to spice up my scenes a bit. One in particular involved a scene a few days ago with my ex-slave paladin, who got a big eyeful of another slave's recent very injuries.
So I thought, "What the hey, this might make his brain cry a little, let's roll a 1d20 to see how well he'll mentally take that".
The poor guy rolled a 1. He suffered an ugly breakdown from it the rest of the day as a result. D%

I DID have a flub of my own in a space style dnd with friends. I was the medic of the team and I had the highest possible medical score which makes the upcoming flub even worse. Basically I was doing a surgery on my friend's character to make him even more of a cyborg and I rolled a one....That made his programming malfunction and sent him into an kill all humans mode with me right next to him!
Luckily we managed to take him down without too much fuss, tho I think we both got shot, but yeah, big flub.
Edit: Well dang that dice roll wasn't a fail.

Just for fun.
I've got a few stories myself but the most spectacular botch I've ever seen was performed by XinonHyena during an Ironclaw session. We were mid-fight and his Paladin character wanted to intimidate the enemy.
Other fails during the campaign include
- A two session adventure to get over a river. They attempted to cross using a rope. Excluding the flying character, everybody had an unwanted swim.
- The return adventure getting over the river. This time they attempted to cross over a bridge of ice! Everybody succeeded their roll to get across without slipping... but then the flying character decided to walk across instead of flying. And as you'd expect, she was the one to fall in.

My Fiance and I play DnD every Thursday and at the beginning of our campaign we met this blue Dragon guy (A bad guy). He however was honorable and said, if one of you can beat me in a dual, I will give you hostages from this town. I am looking for a good fight.
I was immediately out since I am a mage, but Fiance was a fighter so he said Yeah sure.
Well, all he rolled were 4's. He couldn't hit the guy. Eventually the DM decided that the blue dragon would drop his sword and begin to just punch him to death. Quite hilarious but it also started a rivalry between his character and the Blue dragon.
My fiance often rolls poorly-- He's gone through 4 characters in one campaign At one point he took off his armor and went for a swim when a whale shark attacked out of nowhere. He couldn't roll to save his life-- so he lost his legs

I tend not to use dice in the RP system I use save for the Furcadia dream's combat system, but I tend to always roll exceptionally badly in relation to that.
