Guys try deadman woinderland its on netflix
Sadly I do not have Netflix, but I have heard good things. I shall add it to my list of animes to watch.
Taramafor

Time to list epic anime films.

Wolf Children: Good one full of story. Less so on the action but very deep. Basically a mother lives on a farm with shapeshifting children.

Tekkonkinkreet: This is perhaps one of the best and underrated ones I have ever seen. It's got the Yakuza, people with bonds turning on each other, betrayal, friendship, demons crawling around in your head. Just watch this.

Princess Mononoke: One of the best anime films ever made which involves living with wolves, a spirit of death and some war going on. Ultimately, while it's doubtless one of the best ones ever made, I can't help the feeling that something was left out. Mainly when it comes to the wolves. Like things were a touch rushed there. Ah well, still an epic film.

Howl's moving castle: A charming magician that meets some girl and gets involved with politics. Basically magic, romance and spells. I remember a scene where the magician is being shallow and wallowing in self pity and has some neat black wings. Can't remember how that turned out. Another scene that comes to mind is some demon fighting. It's got a mix of everything really.

Do Disney films count as anime? It's a different style, sure, but I'm thinking of Beauty and the Beast right now. And that's probably one of the best films I've ever seen. Singing furniture and quick happily ever afters aside.

I only watch films myself.

I watched Anime since my early teens. Last couple of years not so much, but every now and then I enjoy a good new series. :)

My all time favorite is Sailor Moon. I loved the Anime, loved the manga, love the reboot Crystal. I will never stop loving it as it's been such an integrated part of my childhood!

Serial Experiments Lain is one of those animes that make my question my sanity but which I enjoy immensely for its weirdness.

Ghost in the Shell? Yes please. If you never watched this (either one or the series), shame on you! It's brilliant and sucks me right in every single time I watch. I'm very excited for the new adaption to come out.

Any Miyazaki anime. Literally no Anime he made is unlikable for me.

Attack on Titan. A very gory anime, but I loved the drama and the action and the plot. I can't wait for the rest to follow on Netflix.

Sword Art Online was an Anime I got sucked in and watched in one go. Brilliant storyline and it was easy to identify with since gaming and roleplaying with the human nature is the main focus of the series.

Full Metal Alchemist. I don't remember the finer details because it's been so long since I watched it, but the drama and intensity is something that lingers with me for the rest of my life. It has some very disturbing yet also heartbreaking themes - I should really watch this again!

Wolf's Rain - so many feels, such a bawl fest. I loved it but it broke my heart and I'm afraid to watch it again because I'm not sure I will ever stop crying again.

Spice and Wolf. A must watch for all Anime lovers in my opinion. I'm very irritated it's not available on Netflix stream though. :/

Pokemon - Self explanatory.

Dragonball Z is a series I was sickeningly obsessed with in my teens. I remember downloading episodes with shitty subs that were so compressed you could count the pixels in every scene lol.

Elfen Lied is a gruesome gory show that I love to death to this day, I'll never stop loving it!

Chobits is an Anime everyone should know, for sure.

DearS - both manga and anime are a favorite and if you like Chobits, you'll like DearS!

Nana - My favorite emotional drama ever. I've watched the whole series numerous times and I can probably keep doing that for a long, long time.

There are so much more.... If I had to list all the ones I love I'd need three more posts to complete the list.

Edit: If you want to download legal free Anime and are in the US, try www.bakabt.me - they only allow unlicensed content (US based), meaning that it's legal to download the fansubs and whatnot since nobody in the US has legal rights to it. They encourage you to buy the original DVDs/Mangas to support the creators and there's a requirement to seed torrents (meaning, you need to upload things you download - once again this is completely legal for the content they offer).
Sanne just made things a thousand times better. Might have to check some of those out. Sword Art Online is awesome.

Yup, you did! I've been watching it and playing the games since I was 10 years old - that's 17 years of fandom right there. ;) I'm sorry you dislike it, I love it, both the old and new series and movies.
Pokemon is one of the only non-serious animes I can actually stomach.

My sort of anime falls is generally stuff that comes with more serious story-lines such as violence or emotional trauma.

Monster - I don't think I've ever seen an anime that really packs on the suspense like this one. I am fully invested in actually finishing the series one day, but it's on the backburner right now.

Rozen Maiden. Yeah, it's cute and there are some funny bits, but I love the storyline and how heart breaking it can be at times.

Psycho Pass. One of the few scifi things I really like. I think the characters are amazing, the stories are spot on and there is really a lot to get invested with!

Blood+. I got into this when it was just Blood: the Last Vampire and I have to say I honestly broke a copy of a DVD from the video store rewatching Blood: the Last Vampire. I am not interested in vampires in the least, but this makes them interesting and Saya makes for a good DID who kicks major butt. ESPECIALLY in the movie.

Finally:

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. This is a mind bloop if there ever was one. Also very violent and bloody. It's got cute characters too. I can't give too much away because even a few words can give the whole thing away, but if you have a weak stomach, you probably shouldn't watch.
Ok, thought of a few more, plus add in some descriptions of the others that haven't been covered:

Durarara!! -- An ensemble cast of colorful and crazy characters wander the streets of Ikebukuro, Tokyo seeking things lost, things they love, and things they desire as gang wars abound.

Hyouka -- Mystery series that follows four friends who join an old classic literature club.

Tsuritama -- After moving to Enoshima with his Granmother, a shy boy learns to come out of his shell with the help of a self proclaimed alien and the sport of fishing.

Penguindrum Mawaru -- Mind screw to the max, but it's very deep, funny, and engaging. Follows a broken family as they try to keep their little sister from dying.

Kyousougiga -- Alice in Wonderland meets Buddhist lore, a girl gets trapped in a mirror world of Kyoto with her two younger brothers.

Tegami Bachi Letterbee -- Post apocalyptic fantasy about mailmen with a lot of heart... No, seriously, it's that heartwarming and can be quite the tearjerker. Literally... Ok, I'm done, just watch it and see.

SKET Dance -- Screwball gag comedy of a group of misfits helping out students at their school

Seven Deadly Sins/Nanatsu no Taizai -- Deadly Sin themed former criminals trying to stop a coup d'tat in Medieval Britannia.

Uchouten Kazoku -- Fun family of shape shifting Tanuki living in modern day Kyoto who has to accept a tragedy that fell upon them.

Zetsuen no Tempest -- Shakespeare's "The Tempest", recreated in modern times with psychological mystery. Two best friends help a girl who's trapped on a deserted island get off of it.

Magi -- Manga is better, but an Arabian Nights themed series that goes into a lot of real life themes and morality.

Shirobako -- How It's Made the Anime, for anime. Follow a production studio in their endeavors and learn how anime is created. Can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but it finds it's stride and a joy to watch.

Barakamon -- A healing series about a city boy calligrapher trying to find himself in the peaceful countryside of the Goto Islands. When the local kids uses his house as a base of sorts, there's bound to be fun as they get him to open up his heart to others.

Natsume Yuujin-cho/Natsume's Book of Friends: Four cour series that deals with a boy who can see Japanese spirits. Dealing with their problems as he tries to return their names to them from the titular book, he goes through the joys and pain of life.

Free! -- Slice of life swimming series that has just as much about heart and fun as it does fanservice.

Gatchaman Crowds -- Reimagining of the old Tatsunoko series, it deals with a group of appointed heroes as they try to protect the city from aliens and a madman. Goes into great commentary about social media, and how everyone can be a hero.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun -- Parodies shoujo manga as the titular character struggles with writing his own manga. Laughs around every corner, and characters that are never what they seem at first. Read the manga for even more hilarity and hijinks, as the anime really ends too soon.

Tiger and Bunny -- Sponsored super heroes in the vein of Western Shows compete with each other as a greater evil emerges for them to combine forces to deal with.

Shin Sekai Yori/From the New World -- In a world where everyone is psychic, a group of children get a rude wake up call when they learn something about their society that they shouldn't. This one gets pretty dark, tread carefully.

Nagi no Asukara/Lull in the Sea -- Children from the sea adjust to going to school on land and their crushes on each other, but tensions run high when the two societies can't find harmony in time for a festival.

Assassination Classroom -- This fun series deals with a class of misfits tasked with killing their octopus like teacher by the end of the school year, but he's the greatest teacher ever. Can take time to get into, but offers great humor, and commentary on teaching and education with well placed action.

Noragami -- A self proclaimed God working for change runs into a girl who could see him right away. Deals in real life morality and his struggle to be recognized as a god. Anime really ends too soon though, so I recommend the manga.

Zankyou no Terror -- Modern day terrorists threaten the peace as they give the cops and investigators a run around with riddles. But what are there true intentions?

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso -- A genius pianist comes to terms with his past demons as he's encouraged to take the stage again by an ever cheerful violinist. Will he ever really play again, and what are the reasons why she plays the way she does.

Rolling Girls -- In an alternate Japan where all the provincial states are now their own countries, peace-brokers work to keep the rest of the population from warring with each other. When one gets put out of commission, the girl who idolizes her takes it upon herself to be her substitute. With a group of friend following along, a road trip for the ages begins.
