So... I'm writing up my racial info for Wyvern's Cove. I meant to have it up at new years, but I'm a slacker. Nothing new there. The question I put to you all is this!
In a furcadian fantasy setting, I mean to have elvenfurres and svallfurres. Elves and dwarves, as it were. At first I meant to write it so that any furre species could be one or the other, but a look at the svallfurre pic from the beastiary got me thinking.
Should I restrict svallfurres 'logically' to burrowing animals? It really makes sense to me. More importantly is that if I do, what range of species do I restrict elvenfurres to? My first gut feeling were cervines (essentially deer), but what do you lot think?

I am personally of the opinion that logical restrictions greatly enhance a RP world. It gives a world real flavor, and gives people a secure footing on which to play. "Anything goes" is fun for awhile, but it's hard to establish meaningful truths in a world where absolutely anything can be true.
I would see no problem with svallfurres being only burrowing animals. That makes total sense to me. My question would be, are all burrowing animal furres svallfurres, or can a mole be both a regular furre or a svallfurre?

Well... in the name of not messing with people who have established characters they wanted to bring in, I was going to say that a burrowing furre could either be normal, or be a svallfurre and gain particular traits (including physical changes to make it obvious which they were).
I'm still a little torn though on how to treat elvenfurres. I'm sorely tempted to make them cervines, or whatever the sub-species is for deer. Deer, elk, gazelles, wtfever. Hooved critters. I figure after all that the classical notion of a stag is wise and mystical and at home in the forests, right?
And I'm glad that you think a sensible restriction makes the place feel more real. I really want this setting to be something you can make sense of and play in, and has restrictions enough to keep absurdity to a minimum.

I would say cervines fit the bill pretty well!
Oh, you run that place? Cool, I've heard about it. I haven't been there as I haven't had furcadia in years, since I ran Serpent's Isle, hah.
I'd say cervines for elves, which means you could probably class it under equine unless they've added deer in my absence. Similarly, squirrel could work for dwarf since there's a lot of ground dwelling squirrels. Y'know, on top of dwarves. Where would you place bovines, felines and canines in the equasion?

I'm not actually assigning an avatar to the race. I've already got all of my locals planned out, actually. this is just the on-paper way of it for roleplay, which likely means people will use the equine avatar and just say they're the appropriate race
Though come to think of it, I really need to doodle up examples for each race. Maybe eventually I'll get the go-get-em to make myself a port set

:chokes: I just realized my port set is over 5 years old... time to make a new one.
DO EET!

Hey Ferra, do you have/want walking avatars for them too? If I get my stuff back down I can probably pull that off too, I just DLed Furc again. You can always set the Dragonscript to a trigger where they say [svallefurre] and transform into it. Also if you need any help with Dragonscript I was pretty proficient with it and used to be close with one of the original dreamweavers.
I'm actually pretty handy with dragonspeak myself, so never fear. And while I know how to use the extra locals and intend to have a number of them, a lot of those slots will be taken up by the nobles. You turn the default species into one gender, use a local for the other, and set code so that a person is made into the appropriate one upon entering the dream. I think, the way I have it planned, I'd only have like one local slot left
THOUGH.... I won't way no if you want to take a bash at it? I'll just warn you that I'm hugely picky

Tawhiri here. Where can I find more info on Svallfurres? There doesn't appear to be anything on the Furc site or forums.
They appear to be ferabird's original species for as far as I can tell! However, this topic is three years old already, so it's probably a good idea to send ferabird a PM. I haven't seen them around in a while.
