So Supanova (Which is like the Australia equivalent of comicon) is in 2 months... let the cosplay commence!!
So I'm going to be going as Knight Artorias the Abyssal Walker from Dark Souls, who looks like this:
I know! Pretty badass right? But also a major challenge.
I have made a skyrim cosplay before which turned out really well so I thought I'd step it up a notch and show the process and progress for all you guys and gals who are interested in this stuff
So I started about 4 days ago now, making just the base of the helmet out of thick card paper and masking tape. Kinda felt like doing sculpting but without the mess!
Unfortunately the next part was... I was originally planning to just cut the base apart and use as a template, and make the helmet out of foam. But I saw on a cosplay website that people use fillers instead! So I bought myself a tub of wall/wood filler and lathered the card base in it. The stuff was pliable for about 4 minutes then it sets rock hard. Sanding is sssuuppeerr easy too. I personally didn't use a really fine grit as I wanted the helmet to look rough and old! Here's the result:
I am currently waiting on some really thin foam that I've ordered to arrive then I will be doing the details and designs on the helmet. Until then... onto the torso! I thought it would be a great idea to craft a mannequin of my shape rather than spending the massive effort to try measure up and mark things in mirror (Which is really tough! Trust me). Took about three hours, two rolls of duck tape, and a mother bribed with chocolate to finish this one! It resulted in a pretty awesome mannequin and wedgie too!!
(Don't mind the accessories, just had to make him look fabulous if he was going to be sitting in my room staring at me for 2 months)
And so far! This is where I'm at. I've still got a long process ahead of myself but it will be sure to pay off come Supanova, and I'll make sure I'll keep this post updated as the process goes on

This is so cool! I love cosplay so much, but I haven't been able to attend a con for a couple of years now (they get pricey!) I can't wait to see how the finished product turns out. It's looking epic so far!
Wow!
I'm going to my first con ever, and doing my first cosplay ever in late May at Momocon.
My costume was just ordered online, but I love seeing people make and tailor their own costumes!I just find it inspiring to watch
Yours looks so cool already ^^
I can't wait to see it completed.
