How do you take them, though? Or am I missing something here?

You have to go to the inventory of the group, and then proceed to give them away. You put your own name down when the system asks you who to give them to.

But it says "This group allows the following member types to use, sell or give away its treasury items: Founder, Editors, Member Managers, Moderators, GMs"!

What's the problem? It allows everyone to do it Here, let me just give you some hats

You click on "Treasury" at the very top of the screen and from there, do what Alecia said.

Everyone has been getting marked as a member manager.

You've been promoted to have several of those powers, Loren.

Does anyone know an older member so that we can unlock the next clue?

Loren: I've just sent you five hats from the group's treasury. If you don't need that many, you can give them back.

Blasted thing had 1 HP and I couldn't hit it before I ran out of stamina.

And I thought there was a gift button next to the display one I've found the "give items" button at the bottom of the page. Now I feel silly, haha.
