One of my entries is pretty long and I was wondering if there was a word limit with the captions. One of my captions was rather log and while I didn't SEE such a rule, I thought i better be safe rather then sorry. 
The way captions were explained to me, they shouldn't be too long. I believe Kim's intentions are to display all winning captions on the image meme-style like I already did with my entries.
So keeping that in mind, I think the best length is one that will fit on the image without requiring a teensy tiny font size!

There's no official limit, though traditionally captions are fairly short. I saw your entries though, and they looked fine.
