"Wait!" She yelled "come back! What's wrong?" She ran as fast as she could after him.

"I think I can see them in the distance! At any rate, I've no time to lose, they could already be moving! It'd be pretty bad if they were to assume I was dead."

"But they left you on the ship! They didn't do anything to save you! Do you really wanna be with them?" She shouted, still running after you.

It was now Jeremiah's turn to look wary. "For starters, miss, I'd rather you not make such rash assumptions concerning my trusted friends and colleagues. I know them a lot better than I know you, or mermaids in general, for that matter. Besides, I've already made commitments to my colleagues, I couldn't suddenly drop them to... I don't now, do whatever you wanted to do. I'm sorry, but I've got to go with my friends." He began to inch away from the mermaid in case he had said too much and incurred her wrath.

Scarlette was hurt, and quite angry, but she let him turn away. She wanted to say something, but she held her tongue, for rage boiled inside of her

"Er... Miss, please don't give me that look. I'm sorry, but I've already made prior commitments to my friends. I must go now." Jeremiah turned to leave, not bothering to look back. He didn't know what Scar might try if he did.

The evening went on, but Scarlette's rage did not go down. She decided that maybe a sit by the dock would do her some good. So she walked to the pier and sat.
