Welcome to Kyaria Bastion, an observatory and research center built upon the Kyaria Mountain summit, where life takes every opportunity to shatter one's expectations of the world.
The sky appears to have no day or night cycle, for the light of the never ending aurora borealis that paints it is difficult to peer through. The wildlife is familiar, yet strange - schools of colorful glowing fish, eels, jellyfish and other 'aquatic' life swim through the air on unusual magical currents given off by the mountain. The plants dotting the surface of the landscape seem like a glimpse into another world, keeping Kyaria illuminated with bulbs of light glittering on near every tree. The natives are rarely seen and an initially bewildering sight to behold, a cross between angler fish and man. Even the precious materials within the mountain are unlike anywhere else under the sun, from crystals that absorb light, heat or cold and in turn fill the area with their stored energy, to the unusual blue ore named 'Bastium' which seemingly burns eternal once brought to flame - until doused in water.
It is rumored the unusual magical currents given off by the mountain could pose some longterm risk, to anyone not properly protected. Magical ability could be enhanced or reduced, spells warped by the currents into something else entirely, bodies even mutated. Thankfully the many machines set into place in the Bastion pumps the majority of the magical currents back outside, protecting those within from finding out if those fears are founded - though the occasional small fish can find enough to swim inside with.
Until recently the Bastion has been closed to the general public, but as curious travelers continue to arrive to see the wonders of the mountain this has been relaxed in order to provide them safe haven - provided they promise to look, not touch. Travelers can rest a night at the inn, those seeking a more longterm stay can rent out a room in the residential halls. But those with magical, technological or scientific training who seek employment in researching the many oddities of the mountain are paid handsomely for their time and skill.
No one knows who exactly is funding the Bastion's research or to what end its purpose is, but the inhabitants of the Bastion rarely have a moment to question it - or the inclination, so long as the food, the pay and the company remain more than satisfactory.
[Visit our library and type !Read while facing bookshelves to sift through the current research known about the minerals, plants, animals and the natives of the mountain.
Face the residents and press F3 to talk to them, they usually have something new to say.
If you would like to rent out a room in the Bastion or seek employment within it, just stick around and talk to a staffmember to arrange a meeting. Miners, researchers, engineers, smithies, maids, caretakers, shopkeeps and even animal handlers are needed to tend to the Bastion's stables.]
- The observatory tower, where you can watch the sea of life in the sky overhead and scout the forests below in search of new things to discover. [If you can figure out how we did this view, you get a cookie. ]
- The wilds of the mountain, just outside our doorstep. Things are usually safe here, just take care a school of fish don't mug you for your croissant.
- Our research center, where our brightest minds are at work experimenting with the plants, ores and crystals of the mountain to unlock their secrets. With any luck we'll find new cures for diseases and new inventions to make everyone's life a little easier.
- The heart and soul of the Bastion, where the machines constantly run to keep the Bastion safe from the wild unknown just beyond its walls by repelling the magical currents.
- The tavern, where everyone can relax with some world class cuisine after a hard, strange day.
We hope to see you soon!

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.
The Bloody Dice Gambling Hall and the Merry Conclusions massage parlor have been added to the village. Come race Snats! While I'm posting here, I should probably post what sort of characters each might appeal to.
Kyaria Bastion:
- Miners, who are desperately needed to brave the mines and return with ores and crystals for research.
- Researchers, to experiment with the flora, fauna and minerals of the mountain. Also to type up their findings for the libraries.
- Engineers. Can you work a machine that runs on magic or steam? We need you!
- High society types, honeymooners and tourists in general. The Bastion has rooms set up especially for these people in order to bring in a bit of extra revenue. Each room has a perfect window view of the aurora skies.
- Traders. Excess amounts of Bastium, Levium, Stalgia and other things collected by the researchers are traded for rare necessities that are needed from time to time. We're also open to trading with other dreams!
- Animal caretakers. Someone has to keep them fed, keep them clean and take care of them.
- Miscellaneous staff. Blacksmiths, maids, cooks, post office workers, librarians, guards, shopkeeps and the like.
- People seeking an escape from the mundane.
- Spellcasters. The magical currents flowing around the mountain could prove helpful, and who knows what use the plant life might serve as reagents?
Kyaria Village:
Though the village is at the base of the mountain and therefore within a day's walking distance of the Bastion, it caters to a wildly different crowd. The people of the Bastion tend to make high salaries, and as such it caters to the workers on vacation.
- Gamblers. There's a festive gambling hall set up right under the tavern, with fully functional Snat racing. Give it a whirl!
- People who need to, uh, wind down after a hard day's work at the massage parlor.
- Those in need of a quiet, comfortable lifestyle. Some of the grass might be purple, but there's no flying fish anywhere at least.
- Miscellaneous workers as above. The Bastion only has two shops for general supplies, but the Village caters to many more interests. Herbalists, bakers, tinkerers, farmers and hunters among others.
- Investigative types. There's something odd about the Village. People seem to avoid wanting to talk about something called 'The Incident'. Why is the cemetery so large in such a new town? And how did those ruins come to be?
