I've never done an anthropomorphic animal character. I'm doing an anthro cat and would love some help on how to set him up.
Look at the mannerisms of the animal that you are anthropomorphising. For example, depending on the feline breed or even the individual, cats can range from affectionate and sociable, to difficult to approach and 'scratchy'. The handy thing about felines is that they have their ears and tails to use for body language indicators, so that can add depth to the RP if, say, they are vocally in agreement with someone but their ears and tail suggest otherwise!
I have a slew of feline anthropomorphic characters. The best thing about them is that they're incredibly versatile. Pick a breed you like visually and look into the background of the breed if you're interested in having them be true to their roots and/or geographical origins. You don't have to stick to anything rigidly, choose traits that make you happy. Add wings, horns, tentacles or whatever else at your leisure if you like - everything can be explained if you're willing to be a little inventive. I've always just gone about it the same way I design a human character. Poke around my profile at my characters if you want a small example of what you could potentially make or if you need ideas. I have one character who is feline, but has a tail like a horse. Why not!
I've created him. Have a look and please tell me what you think: <a href='http://www.rprepository.com/site.php?char=49798'>Apollo Andrews's Profile</a>
