So I used to get your bog-standard "Hey, you have a private message. Click here!" or "Hey, So-and-So replied on such-and-such forum topic. Click here!" e-mails. Now I'm getting ones that are more--I don't know--oddly "hip", I would say. They also tell me there have been zero comments to my character Panne--but that isn't my character. Further, links are redirected through some site called Mad Mimi, which is incredibly shady. Here is one of the last e-mails I've received, and the blurriness of the lines is how it appears to me. The whole thing looks--shady.
Another email I've had said that a reply to "No Subject" has been posted, which--is not the topic of anything I've ever been remotely associated with, as far as I know. Through another Mad Mimi redirect, it ends up at this non-existent topic.
Is this intentional, is this some new change that's being brought about, or is this something we have to worry about?

This is intentional, it is actively in the process of being installed right this minute and some bugs are being addressed. There's nothing to worry about.
Ah-ha. Thank you!
Can I ask, what email client are you using Rhygar?
Yahoo mail through Firefox 39.0.
On a desktop computer?
Laptop.
Sweet, thanks, that's extremely helpful.
You got it!
Ive been getting the emails too, but i haven't gotten any weird or shady things. Love the new lay out though.
I'm naturally suspicious of click-throughs, which is why that struck me as shady and something I might-should report. There are legitimate uses of them, but.
Yeah, I can totally see how it would raise some question marks. I decided to use Mad Mimi as a third party email handler after seeing them give good results to some of my clients that send staggering numbers of site-related emails.
For the last several months we've been having an increasing amount of trouble getting email to hotmail/live/outlook/any microsoft based email accounts. I've spent dozens of hours trying to work with Microsoft to make sure we aren't blacklisted (they swear we aren't), and I don't even know how many hours hand-writing welcome/account verification emails to new players with those types of email addresses every single day. I decided the time had come that it was worth the expense of using a place whose sole purpose in existence is making sure your emails get where they are meant to go.
This meant that I had to rewrite oodles of email related code, but also meant the opportunity to improve the messages and even to create some batching, where if a bunch of things happen to your account at once it just tells you about them in one go instead of sending oodles of singular emails about each one. The transition from one system to the other has been a little rocky today, but hopefully we're coming to the other end.
I'll have an official article up about it in a few days, but that's the gist of it.

It's been smoother than it really could have been. Save one or two completely irrelevant mails, I've gotten ones I should have, when I got an e-mail.
Annnnnd that sounds like a crap-ton of work. I'm glad I was able to help in whatever tiny, tiny way.

I'm hoping the irrelevant ones have stopped at this point?
They did indeed! It just--swung in the opposite direction, and now I'm not getting any e-mails. I haven't been notified of the last few replies to this thread or to arpee topics for a bit, now.
Have you been actively looking at the site and engaging with those threads in the last 10-15 minutes? For example, have you clicked through from your notifications to look at this thread, without needing an email?
If so, it's very likely each time you see the latest post, the site cancels the notification it was going to send you about it so as to not spam you with irrelevancies. (This is a new feature!) Email notifications are now generated but held back for up to 15 minutes, just in case you're already active on site and won't need to be told, or in case something else happens in close enough proximity that it can be combined into one email.
If you haven't been interacting with the site on your own, then we have more digging to do.

Mmm, recently, yes, but I'm pretty sure I missed at least one or two by larger than that time frame, but I can't be sure. I'll close these tabs for the next twenty-ish minutes and see what happens.
Sounds good. Let me know how the experiment goes!
It worked, so I think you were completely right--as, you know, usual, so whatevs.
Buuuut there's something else. Now it just tells me the primary forum, not the actual topic. So at first I thought it was another irrelevant e-mail. For example, it just told me there was activity on the Suggestions and Development forum, rather than the "Changes to E-Mails of Activity" thread, specifically. It's not a huge issue by any stretch, so somewhere near the bottom of the To-Do list, will there eventually be an option to have it list the actual topic names again?
