Rain Grey sat hunched over beneath an oak sapling that was little protection from the heavy rainstorm pouring down from the gray, pregnant clouds in the sky above. Her beautiful pure, white coat was stained with the red, sticky substance of blood, all of which belonging to her. The blurry form of a two story country house appeared in her vision, purposely looking for this place.
The strong wind carried the scent of her mate straight to her, her nose wiggled slightly as she sniffed the air, drinking in the musky scent of her soul mate. His farmland rolled in golden hills farther than she could see. She could hear the loud ruckus his ranch hands made as they joked and drank in their bunk house by the barn. Having seen her mate before, she knew he was a strong and stubborn man as he showed his affection in a rough way. But she also knew that was from him searching in his younger years for her but never having found her. He had given up on ever finding his mate.
The wind would carry her scent of wildflowers and rain straight to him. It would seep in through every open crack and vent in his two story farm house, filling the house with the scent she knew only he would be able to smell. She knew that. She knew that he would recognize it instantly because it would send his wolf side howling. He would feel it overwhelm him.
With a soft grunt, she slowly stood and limped back further into the woods on the far side of his land. For this night, she would get a motel room in town and buy some first aid supplies as well as clothes so she could tour the small town the next day. Disappearing into the thick, wooded area, she picked up her pace into a slow and painful trot as she figured that her mate had long since caught her scent.
However, she would be gone before he could even reach the far hill where she had been sitting.
