"Sweet old lady?" Kawlo echoed incredulously. "Gah, sweet old lady sounds like witch! Don't trust her, nope." He shrugged, his boyish features contorting somewhat as his eyes squinted. "Hm. Bob might give Kawlo nice things. I will come, yes." He blinked up at Colin and tilted his head, two hands resting on his hips. When his cloak fell down to cover them, he almost looked like a normal (albeit very short) boy. Sans the eyes of course. "Team is odd word. But if mister says team, Kawlo will not argue." At Lilac's question, he reached out one hand to her. "Sure. Kawlo will take apple. Maybe eat it. Maybe not. Gah." After a moment, he pointed down the road. "We should continue then? Kawlo can get out of the forest, do not know about you. Where is Bob?"

Lilac pressed the apple into one of Kawlo's hands, pleased. Behind her, one of the shrubs along the road rustled. "I'd be happy to be part of the team," she said, grinning, though she silently agreed team was a weird word. "My family told me Bob was in a great big city further- much- down the road, though I don't know which way is which anymore," she said, turning to Colin as if hoping he might know, and adds skeptically, "We're supposed to pass through a swamp, and the 'highest waterfall in the land' along the way." There was, in fact, a lot of other stuff she was supposed to run into along the way, but she hadn't been paying much attention-- it was supposed to be straight down the path, even if the path went on for a while.

A crow landed softly nearby, perching on a high branch and seemed to take an unnatural interest in the group, fixing its beady black eyes on the trio. "She was just a nice old lady," Lilac murmured, "I'm sure of it. Maybe she was a little shady, but not much more than any of us." Once more, she looked to Colin, ready to walk with as soon as they determined which way was which.

The small party of travelers heard it before they saw it. The murmur of overlapping voices in the distance, the shout of children playing, and then as they turned the bend through the dense forest, they found themselves standing right outside the gates of a small village.

The village wasn't much: A few dozen wooden huts and thatched-roof cottages, arranged in a semicircle around a small forum. A short, flimsy palisade had been erected around the clearing, although it didn't seem likely to fend off anything overly dangerous. The open gate was guarded by a pudgy man in a set of leather armor a size or two too small. He spotted the travelers as they turned the corner, and smiled brightly, waving the hand that wasn't carrying his wooden spear.

Encountering the small town had been... unexpected, but it wasn't too surprising. Existing maps of the Wunschwald and its surroundings were outdated, and there were likely plenty of uncharted towns that had sprung up since the last team of cartographers had come around.

At some point, Robin had crawled out of Colin's cloak pocket, where he had been sleeping. Shielding his eyes from the sunlight that filtered through the canopy, he squinted at the village. "Are we there already?" He looked up at Colin and then noticed the newcomer to their party. "We pick up more hitchhikers while I was asleep?"

Kawlo had been following the group at his own leisure, swinging and clambering amongst the branches above. Since his eyesight wasn't the best, he had to lower himself down closer than was preferable to make sure he didn't lose them. It wasn't that he actually cared all that much, he told himself, but the prospect of getting something nice from this 'Bob' was enticing.

Taking notice of the sounds of the village, the human-like spider boy landed between Lilac and Colin, squinting fiercely in the direction of the sound. "Blech. Village. Kawlo tries to stay away from these, yes. They think he is odd, yes." He expertly tugged his wide cloak over his shoulders, folding two arms beneath it and behind his back. "What is this? What do we do at village?" The tone of his words abruptly became shrill and panicked as he took notice of Robin, who had emerged from Colin's pack again. He hissed and skittered back a few steps, muttering to himself.
