I used to have lengthy iTunes playlists for each of my characters -- sometimes, multiple playlists, to reflect a specific type of mood the character might be in. It was definitely a great way to get into a different headspace very quickly.
Nowadays I do so much of my RP in tabletop or LARP situations that it'd be rude to play my soundtracks where other players could hear them, since I'm certain their own character playlists would be different. So I do this much less.

I listen to lots of different music, mainly rock and alternative. I find that Skillet has good songs to match moods in an rp, but thats my own preference
I don't really listen to anything special when I listen to music while making posts. I would say that I listen to more pop and upbeat music when doing posts, but there are several songs in my playlists that fall throw those creaks. I usually turn on Spotify, iTunes, or even play my Youtube playlist when I feel the need to listen to something. I usually do it to help me focus, or to force me to post (which I've been slacking on... So oppies )
I listen to music almost constantly, when I can. During posts, sometimes I change depending on what I'm posting about but usually it's whatever I am currently obsessed with. I will say Music helps me come up with plots and characters, almost every one of my characters were inspired by a song or group of songs. Then it's backwards with some characters, I have a couple of musicians and I'm in the process of writing songs FOR them lol. As for Genres depends on the mood, I can go from one to the next easily. I like a lot of different ones.

For those who like ambiance, this isn't music, but it's AMAZING for RP mood setting:

And, the big one: https://syrinscape.com/ This one has a paid version, but it gives you incredibly fine control over your soundscapes, and has a ton of options.
