Hello people of RPR! I'm Summer, and I have a question for every single one of you (that would like to share.)

For some reason, it seems that I will suddenly not be able to make posts. Before you say anything, it is not writer's block. I can still get ideas out, and I even can think of what I want to put in a post, but I just can't bring myself to start the post. It might be that the fact that I like fooling around rather than making replies most of the time, but there have been times where I do not post to anyone for maybe a week or two (even more at times...) and I'm just curious if this is happening to anyone else.

So, do any of you suffer from this strange form of unique writer's block? (That's what I'm going to call it for right now...)
Yes i have. Its like you have it typed up, but something just seems off about it?

What you just described matches the definition of procrastination exactly!

I have known many people who start to procrastinate about responses when they feel obligated; even if they are still having fun, if they don't feel they have a choice, they rebel. Are you feeling any pressure from your partners/groups?

I was thinking that as well, but I feel as if it's some how both writer's block AND procrastination (and something else!) I don't know why, I just feel as if it's not the same for some reason.

As for being pressured: No, not really. I don't feel as if I'm being pressured at all, but I feel like there is this odd feeling from not being friendly with the person that I rp with (What I mean by this is we only post for our roleplay, but never chat.) It seems odd, but it feels like there is an odd tension between me and my partners, even though there isn't. The best way to explain this would be if you were roleplaying with your bestfriend, got in a big fight over something out of character, yet still post to keep the roleplay alive (this has never happened to me persay, but I've had something similar happen and it reminds me of what would happen.)

No... That is completely different from what I am talking about. See, if it was, then I could simply "wing it" from there and just pray that the post isn't too strange for my partner. I'm not too sure what you are trying to explain sadly.
It sounds like you're concerned that your partner might be conflating IC (in character) events with OOC events.

As much as people say they don't mix up the two, I've found that inexperienced RPers tend to do it subconsciously (even if they don't want to).

The ONLY way to fix this is to communicate the plot beforehand. Ask your RP partner to clearly define the relationship between your characters. Saying something like "Hmm, do you think these two should start arguing? [My character] is kind of an asshole, your character might react poorly to that..." etc.

Basically, chat more OOC. :)

Alternatively, you could try to get to know someone OOC before jumping into an RP with them.
If you don't feel like putting in that kind of effort for everyone you meet, then just try to play out fun, light-hearted interactions instead of introducing conflict between your characters.

Hope this helps!

I've been roleplaying for over a year now... And I am far from unexperienced when it comes to that >.<

It is not that I mix OOC and IC, because I follow that rule all the time. I even got mad when my friend would cross over that line in a group roleplay on Chatzy, and literally take out on the other character (someone went over and told this girl that his character got married a long time ago, and I passed that onto him. Two days later he wanted to kill the guy ICly who said it...) I just hate when people roleplay their characters as themselves... It's weird for me honestly. I understand if they character is LITERALLY you, but it's odd when you have a character that isn't you, yet you play them the same way that you would yourself.

So what I'm trying to say is it isn't that rule being broken. It is the fact that we never speak. I mean, I chat with my partners before hand, but then we never talk after a few weeks of roleplay. The only time that I did that, the person got mad that I wasn't posting enough, and that I wouldn't message them back. I'm not going to name names of course, but the player ended up deleting their character right after I didn't message them back even after telling them that I had a family member in town! I'm over it of course.

When I said that I feel like my partners have an odd tension with me, I mean that I feel like when I will bring something up in OOC, they will not even respond to it. When I say sorry for posting late, they will not even comment. The same when I say that I post a short post (I remember someone ranting about this, and when I say short post I literally mean that it is shorter than the agreed post length.) Maybe I should just chat them up from time to time? It is just odd for me honestly, as most people seem annoyed by half of what I say for some reason... I'm not intense, so I don't know why people seem to react in that way.

That's just my two cents on it honestly. I think that the problem is solved really, mostly thanks to Kim. I'm just going to go with what Kim said, and just hope that procrastination is the sole issue here...
