Admitted, she is surprised over how calm the soldier seems. And friendly. She sits up, and backs away from him a bit. "Who are you?" she asks, full of suspicion. She knows how to butcher a lamb. If the lamb sees the knife, it will be scared. That would leave the meat in bad quality. You have to make it feel safe, before you cut its throat.

Tarben's escape, and then his hiding on the porch is quick, and easy to miss. The soldiers miss it, yet the Sargent does not. He gives no order for the others to follow, he says nothing even. He is certain he saw something, or someone, hide behind the broken crates and barrels that littered the stoop.

He slowly makes his way forward, unsheathing the long sword from his hip from a leather scabbard. The usual 'ring' can be heard as it is drawn from its home. The Sargent slowly trods through the heavy snow, boots making heavy impressions within it. He places one foot on the stair, resonating in a notable noise throughout the tavern. He takes another step, slow and cumbersome, yet forceful in planting. He narrows his eyes and looks over the porch, searching for some hint of the man being hidden near.

Hidden there by the stoop, Tarben would indeed note the heavy step that the Sergeant set upon the timbers.
However, he had expected Ivan to give chase, and so he would simply lay there hidden, anticipating that the soldier would pass by and allow the boy a chance to... Well, he would get to that part when it came to him...
Yet, Carmichael had not figured into his half-formed plot.

Drake knows he's outnumbered, but not outmatched, his armor, and training was far better than theirs, but that does not mean in the slightest that their spears can't stab through his armor. The leather and cloth stitched over his chest plate is designed to catch arrows, not spear heads! He scoops up another handful of dirt from under the snow, throwing it at the group of militia men, and unsheathing his short sword once again.

The Sargent peers the area searchingly in his attempt to locate the boy. Yet, it was now the whispers from within the tavern would catch his ear, and he would pause. Thinking the source likely to be from within, he sets his hand against the door, and slowly pushes it open.

Meanwhile, his men fight the knight. They are too wide spread, and wary of trickery, to be tricked by dirt twice, this they are prepared. As he did lower himself to collect the dirt, a man would attempt to strike the back of his head with the spear's handle, noting his sword was indisposed. The other two reach for his arms, to try and restrain him.

He steps back a few paces to give her some extra room. He places a hand on his chest. "Ivan... your name?" He asks her, his Russian accent still present as he speaks. He is by far trying his best not to sound threatening, scared even, as he has a hard time talking to certain women.

He moves his head out of the way of the spear, it scraping against the side of his helmet, he then tries to kick one of the militia men's shins with his iron boot, he then pulls them closer to him to try to headbutt them with his helmet.

She looks at him, her eyes still full of suspicion. "Kalliope." she answers. She is still standing as far away from him as possible. "Forgive me sir, but I do currently not have the biggest faith in men in amour." she says. "You didn't tell me what you are doing here."

The spear does glance off. One of the men does take the armored boot in the knee, and collapses upon one of them, temporarily dropping his spear. However, at the attempted headbutt, the man would reciprocate with an attempt to wrap his arms around the incoming head, to keep it secure. His chain-mail is meant to withstand blunt blows, and slashes.

Meanwhile, at the tavern, the Sargent pushes the door open sword drawn. With the two survivors standing before him, he narrows his eyes. He spots Ivan - Though is armor may be similar, he knew it was not his own factions. Thinking him an intruder, he bounds forward with heavy steps striking against the wooden floor. He raises his sword high in his charge and utters a few grunts, as the bull of a man charges at the stranger - Though instead of attempting to stab him, he would be more keen on bulldozing him over.

Ivan was about to answer Kalliope until Bradley came in. Realising the threat he unsheathes his sword and prepares for him to strike. ((Sorry this is so short XP))

Bradley lowers his shoulder, attempting to collide into Ivan with the armored plate. This would likely knock him over, if the attack prevailed. Given his weight and momentum, of course.

He has his sword ready, but would swing only if Ivan were left standing.

She represses a scream, when Ivan unsheathes his sword, but when he faces the Sargent instead of her, she calms down a bit. however the new threat faces her quickly. She walks backwards until the hits the table top in the back of the room. She looks at the table top, finding a rather large butcher knife. Even though she's a pacifist, she has butchered animals before, and in this situration it might come in handy. Her hands are shaky, and she breathing heavily, waiting for a time to strike.

Since the man who's covering his head is at close proximity, he unsheathes his short sword, slashing and swinging at the militia man, if he were to get him off, he would raise his shield up again and take a defensive stance.

The Militia man sustains only a minor wound - He bares chainmail, which is meant to prevent slashing damage, and it was especially effective at this short range. Thus, he is not harmed enough to break him from his hold on Drake. The other men would come from the other side, hands reaching out to hold the knight at bay.

Ivan has a plan he's sure would work. The armoured plate protecting Bradley could stop anything sharp, especially a sword. Instead of striking like anyone else would do, he grabs the sword by the blade with both hands, and swings the pommel at Bradley. This technique is called the 'murder stroke' designed for bashing in armour, especially of the highly resilient variety. He still has yet to take notice of Tarben but Kalliope is his number one priority to protect at this point.

The Sargent is indeed caught of guard by the attack. He knew the man would have something sharp, but didn't anticipate his sword, suddenly becoming a mace. This tactic was new to him, and he would have to remember it in the future. His shoulder is struck by the heavy blow, which in turn sends him in another direction, given his momentum. He would have run past Ivan, and now been located near the rear exit of the building, where he rolls his shoulder in a circle in an attempt to shake off the throbbing pain. He gnashes his teeth and holds his sword in his right hand. He would approach again, this time less careless in his approach, and hold the blade of the sword in his left hand, as he drives it forward with the right - Half swording, to try and penetrate the armor in his chest.

He slips off his helmet,and rolls backwards, he gets back up, raising his shield and taking another defensive stance, this time trying to slash and swing at the militia men's heads who were about to grab him.

The men are unarmored in the face and neck. The whole movement acts to thoroughly confound them, in a sense - Thus the strike across their cloth covered faces connect, and send two of the attackers falling back down in the snow. One still bares the man's helmet. As he watches this, he swiftly draws back his hood, downs his mask, and plops the helm upon his own head. He wasn't going out like that. The man who sustained a rock based injury a while ago, has given up his chase. He rests a hand against a tree and sets the other against his forehead, reeling to recover.

Seeing two of his men fall in one swipe, the man who was injured early in the fight does his best to crawl away.

Ivan composes himself as he watches Bradley move from the momentum. He twirls his sword around, almost teasingly, and holds it out in front. Noticing his half-swording, he stays where he was, and awaits his attack. Bradley may have the intent of killing him, but Ivan has the complete opposite view. He hated killing, and would much rather disable him then kill him rightly. Of course, that kill he had earlier with Boris was absolutely necessary as it seemed like the only solution. He watches as Bradley charges in half-swording. As soon as Bradley was close enough, he would flick the sword toward his nearest wrist in order to disable the hand. If done so properly, Ivan would dash backwards a split second after, in case he were to try something different.

The Sargent is caught in the gauntleted wrist. The armoring prevents injury, but the diverted momentum certainly keeps him from going through with the attack. He takes a step forward, following him in his evasion, and swings heavily from his left, to his right. He would, however, leave himself vulnerable to an attack from Kalliope, who he seems to have not even noticed is now behind him.
