Good to meet the RPR community. I've been putting off making a freewebs for quite some time now, so when I stumbled on this site I had to sign up. It's nice to finally have a place to keep track of the extended details for my characters, and this site seems much more organized for a roleplayer than freewebs.

I consider myself more of an author than a roleplayer, to be honest; I have no character that truly is "me," I have the terrible habit of writing in third-person past-tense instead of first-person present, and I play a mix of characters on a bizarre spectrum ranging from hostile to naive to manipulative, many of which I'll likely spend time detailing over the course of the next month or so, especially after the holidays die down.

I'm a bit slow on the writing because I spend time examining what my characters should be thinking/feeling and therefore how they should react, rather than simply acting through them, but if you can forgive me for that I'm willing to try most styles of stories and scenes. For me, the longer the story runs, the better.
Hello and welcome!

Most of the RP I've done in my years of RPing has been in third person past tense, so I don't think very many people would have a problem with that! Plus, it's awesome that you put thought into your writing. Most people will really appreciate that!
Greetings!

I agree. I can almost sympathize. It takes me a while to respond some times because I really want to think where it's going, not just spit something out. And I have to agree with Tasha, most RP I've encountered is done in third person past tense unless the people playing are in a chat room at the same time.

First of all, wello and helcome.

Third person past tense is how most people RP from what I've seen. And as for replying, I'm usually a fast writer (though it shows in the quality of the final product), but that may be because I have a lot of free time in my hands, who knows. But it's great that you put thought into your character's actions.

As for long stories... I'm with you. Bigger is better.

Hmm, that's odd... In most of my roleplays the other person starts in present tense, even if they are using third-person. Normally if I keep writing in past-tense they eventually do as well, or in some cases mix the two incorrectly. Perhaps it's a Furc thing, or something about the sort of authors/roleplayers I tend to attract? At any rate, it's nice to know story-form is more common than I thought.
Like I mentioned before, I thnk if the two players are both on the computer at the same time or using a chat format for a game, it's more probable that they will use present tense. But I feel like it just doesn't make sense if it's going to be a story format where each player is going to write out a paragraph each.

I find first person and/or present tense an incredibly awkward way to write except under extremely specific circumstances, almost none of them RP related.

Personally, I feel that anything which helps with the separation of player and character is a good thing. I have a whole variety of characters that have nothing in common with myself, and even with characters that share many traits with me, I want a clear distinction in other people's mind that this is a character and not me. When you start in with "I am currently doing this..." it creates more mental confusion than people are usually willing to admit to.

Also, welcome! :D
