Welcome to the site, man. RPR is a great place to get started, you will find a lot of topics to your liking.
We have all the major bases covered: sci-fi, fantasy, modern, you name it and there's a topic for it. Heck, there's probably a wizard trapped in the future learning to cope with life due to a spell gone awry somewhere in the forum.
Here's a quick run down of what each section of the forum does.
Small Talk is the off topic section, and I lurk in there almost exclusively - weird, right? (I've been role-playing for 12 years though!)
Introductions should be self explanatory

Rp discussion is a good forum to look at, tons of ideas from great minds in there. You can also talk with fellow rpers about what they think about a certain topic, if it is re-released.
Looking for Rp? Just read the name.
After that you've got the help, art, and actual rp forums as well. We also have groups if you want to get more involved with like-minded people.
