A lot of things happened in a short amount of time. First that guy disappeared at his greeting. Then Yan shouting and disappearing underground as well. Now here Edward was, screwdriver in hand. Well whatever, he wanted to see what was going on. So he too ducked into one of the numerous tunnels, stepping uncaringly on the bodies piled on the floors directly beneath them.

The light from the sonic screwdriver glinted off the topaz-colored inhibitor stones, forcing Yandela to squint in order to see-

"Edward!"

He actually...

Edward quickly examined the scene. He was lost for words.
He had failed to protect her when she needed him.
"Those..are magic inhibitor stones."
He twisted his sonic screwdriver changing some sort of frequency within it then reassembled it as skillfully as he had broke it apart.
"Lift your head up."
The sonic screwdriver was aimed at the direction of every individual stone.
Billions of years ago when magic existed within his own universe, several 'mages' were held back with those very same devices.
Upon activation, the sonic screwdriver disabled the devices.
Because of the close proximity they had with each other, each stone exploded into tiny remnants of rocks.
He quickly walked towards her and knelt down in front of the woman.
With his eyes faced to the floor, he apologized.
"I'm sorry. "

The rush of her magic being freed from the bonds of the stones left her with head rush, made her dizzy. Yandela swayed on her feet, then collapsed next to Edward, trying not to hurl on those nicely polished boots of his.

"N-not now, Ed... Fayall... He's coming after me..."

Edward immediately embraced her. This time it was natural.
He stood up and looked around the room.
There were no weapons or even items he could use to defend the both of them.
He'd have to rely on his self-taught hand to hand defence.
Putting one arm around Yandela to support her, he thought of every possible escape he could perform.
The agonizing migraines returned once more but were still minimized by his more pressing situation.
With no chance of fleeing, he looked directly into her bright green eyes.
"Let him come."

Yandela turned away from his burning gaze, unable to admit her lack of faith. "Fayall... He has my magic. A little over half... I don't know if... Maybe your screwdriver thing..."

"Half your magic?, i see."
He began to run every possible survival route through his mind.
"When in a tough situation, you need to remain calm otherwise your sanity can be easily lost."
He looked around.
Magic. The Time Lords had removed it from existing in his universe.
Or so they said.
In actual fact, the regeneration process was not a scientific DNA feat, but one built on the fundamentals of magic.
He had practiced harnessing the energy but each time, it led to a catastrophic disaster which was usually protected by the Tardis.
This was an especially stupid idea as he was already on a countdown for his death.
Doing this might only just speed up the timer.
He looked at Yandela.
As much as he wished to intervene, this was her fight.
The best decision would be to divert his regeneration power to her.
"Give me your hand Yandela.
Be quick about it."

Yandela looks up at him, her hand halfway extended. "...you're about to do something incredibly stupid, aren't you?"

Her hand clasps his.

"Shhhh."
The process began.
Bright orange energy started to flow out of his body and into hers.
Though it was ridiculously painful, the only display Yandela could see were his tensed face muscles which twitched in reaction.
As the energy transferred, slight memories of his rite of passage passed on as well.
The battle of Arcadia, the murder of his parents, the brutal operations performed on him.
But most importantly, the regeneration energy would fill the gap of her stolen magic energy.
The process stopped, Edward staggered about.
He had temporarily lost his vision.
"It's done, that should be enough for you to get your revenge."
The Time Lord fell to the floor.
"Just....give me a second."

"Edward!"

She had no clue what he had done, but she felt energized and ready to roll and... Sad. The memories that had flitted across her mind had dragged her emotions deep into blue, but her concern for the Time Lord won out over all.

"Dumbass," she hisses, kneeling beside Edward. "I don't care about revenge. I just want you and Mars safe."

Fayall entered the scene, leering maniacally at the image presented to him. Yandela stood, readying her magic.

"Mars, get Edward and get to safety."

The Time Lord sat with his vision temporarily absent.
"Is he here?, be careful Yan.
I believe in you."

Yandela frowned at Edward's vacant gaze, gently running her thumbs over his eyelids before springing off, magic boosting her speed. Fire pools in her hands. She snarls at Fayall, who readies a protective barrier. Yandela places both hands against the purple shield and pours the whole of her attack into breaking it. The shield shatters.

"You're going to pay."

Edward smiled.
She was finally going to be rid of the harsh memories that plagued her for so long.
He longed for nothing more than the restoration of his eyes so that he could watch the long awaited fight.

And thus began a dance of elements and time, reality and lack thereof. Yandela swiped at Fayall, fire trailing behind her palm, only to be forced to spring back as Fayall returned with a burst of lightning. A solid blow from Yandela connected with Fayall's jaw.

"I'm sick of this," she hisses, calling down lightning to prance around them. "Sick of looking over my shoulder no matter where I go."

Yandela leaps away from Fayall's clumsy counterattack, then calls her staff to her side. It began to materialize at her side. The base, made from a simple oak limb, twisted around a brilliant blue magnifying gem. Yandela spun the staff, grinning as it gleamed in the darkness.

Around him, the blind Time Lord could hear attacks of fire, lighting and all the elements clashing like a sort of magic show.
This was magic at it's finest.
From the words he heard Yandela say, it sounded as if she was on equal terms with her opponent.
That was good.
Very good.

She flipped out of the way of one attack, faltering as her footing slipped for a moment. Yandela's eyes widened as she looked up, startled to see a burst of lightning flying for Edward. She stretched out her hand, her heart leaping into her throat.

"No!"

And time froze around her.

Edward sat with a smile on his face unaware of the impending doom that flew his way until it happened.
There was silence.
Inside his mind he had retreated to his mind palace, where he had written up brand new theories about the universe around him.
In the real world however, he was struck directly by the bolt of lighting which immediately shocked his full body.
With his body already on a countdown for it's end and now the added lighting attack, it was over.
That was it.
The difference between Edward and other Time lords was that he was not able to regenerate.
A Time Lord can choose to merge their 13 initial regenerations into one - creating an incredibly powerful being with almost no register of pain and a near-indestructible body.
Edward had worn out that ability far long ago in his reckless travels and now it was coming back to bite him.
With no sense of what had happened, his body fell to the floor lifeless.
It was done.

Yandela stared at Edward's slumped body for a second before she was filled with overwhelming rage.

"You... Bastard.." Yandela snarls, whirling. Fayall managed to put up a weak defense against Yandela's onslaught of fire for about ten seconds. Yandela didn't even recognize his shields breaking. The next time she was consciously aware of her actions she was at Edward's side, desperately pumping healing energy into him. The abrupt switch from offensive to healing magic made her head spin, but she determinedly carried on, desperate to heal Edward.

Fayall's body was a smoking mess in a corner of the tunnel.

The Time Lord's body lay there in absolute silence as that of a corpse.
Edward had always wondered what happened to the mind once the body had been destroyed.
He got his answer. Death and the afterlife were particular subjects he studied in his free time.
How was it, that Time Lords such as his father - The Doctor, and The Master, even simple creatures such as the Cybermen were able to stop and control death so many times.
Why could he not do that?
Yet here he was, floating in the vast emptiness of space with no body.
It was simply a matter of minutes before the process would begin to take effect.
Days ago, when Edward was in his Tardis with Yandela and he confessed his love to her before leaving in search of Scolopendra, he had taken his personal Time Lord clockwork watch.
The watch was exactly the same as the Time Lord fob watches but designed to fit in with modern society.
He didn't take the watch with him as a fashion accessory however.
It was for a specific situation such as this.
IF at any point he was to be overloaded with pain and trauma, so much so that it affected both of his hearts at the same time, the other heart would be put into suspended animation. It would be frozen.
This theory was far too risky though as it required three specific things to happen.
The first was that he'd have to be physically overcome with pain and stress before it would initialize.
The second was that a third party would use some sort of healing ailment on him. He had wished for that person to be Yandela.
The third and final requirement was for him to be in conscious control of his mental and emotional mind.
It sounded easy enough but for all this to even initialize in the first place. He'd have to be dead.
The watch began to tick.
It had detected the damage done to it's creator and instantly suspended his left heart as the lightning stuck.
As long as the watch was kept intact and still ticking, his heart would be frozen while the other one stopped beating.
And now the second phase had begun.
Yandela was frantically healing him with her magic.
Though she had not realized it, the transfer between her and Edward earlier on had given her slight Time Lord abilities.
This made the healing process run much smoother and effectively as the mixture between her energy and the regeneration energy combined into one large healing spell and filled itself inside Edward.
The Time Lord's watch diverted every single bit of the healing inside his body to his suspended heart.
And now the third phase.
Edward had already practiced controlling his conscience years ago within the Tardis Zero room which was said to emulate death.
Successfully connecting his wandering mind with his body, he awoke.
Slowly opening his eyes, he saw Yandela forcing the healing energy inside him.
His whole body ached.
Gazing at the woman in front of him he smiled.
"Hey."

Yandela froze, her gaze snapping to the Time Lord's. His heart- hearts, right- beat steadily under her hands, where they had been unmovable a few seconds ago.

She screamed and stumbled back.

"You were freaking dead!"
