He hit his head with his hand. How stupid was this Time Lord? Wasn't he supposed to be smart enough to not let his emotions dictate his actions? He acts so childish at times. But Scolopendra could not have Edward die yet. He was just too valuable of an asset to let go of. Scolopendra would have gone up to see what he could do when he heard the girl and her reaction. He decided to sit back and see it out.

Edward looked at the pile of smoke in the corner.
"You did it.
You defeated the foes of your past."
He returned his gaze to hers.
"As for the death thing.
Did you really think a handsome man such as myself could let these good looks go to waste?"
Looking at her lips, he moved his head closer to go for the kiss.

"..." Yandela hesitantly leaned away, putting a hand out to catch Edward's shoulder. "Um. This. Uh. This is a bit awkward... Mars is here, strangely silent, but here, and Eyepatch Dude's aura is really close by so I wouldn't doubt that he's here and... Uhm..."

He felt a wave of defeat but masked it with his usual cool attitude.
"Mhm."
Trying not to depend on her, he rose up with the support of the wall.
He was still staggering, but it was better than before.
"We need to get in search of the shards."

Yandela frowns, but stands. "I... I'll go search for it. I think you need to rest..."

Edward looked directly within her eyes.
"You have got to be the most stupid woman on this planet if you think i'm going to let you out of my sight again."
He struggled to hide his obviously walking difficulty.
"Any ideas where the shard might be?,
I'd say that the man you fought with had it as he seemed to be the most powerful individual here."

"Well, as you can see, there's nothing but a corpse there." Yandela focuses on not puking or crying or otherwise showing emotion. "N-nothing but a... I..."

Edward's face was blank and expressionless.
He felt pathetic.
Instead of taking up the role of rescuer, he was the one who needed saving.
And now he was as weak as an old man.
No wonder she refused him.
"I understand.
You did what you had to do."
He headed in the direction of the door.
"Let's check outside.
There was a tavern i entered, - the men were nice enough to tell me where to find you.
They were such nice men."
He laughed.

Yandela's breath turns shakey and she hugs herself tightly, unable to tear her gaze away from the charred corpse. "I..."

"Yandel-", he stopped as he noticed that she was still staring at the dead corpse.
It dawned on him that this might actually be her first kill.
He quickly walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"It wasn't your fault Yan.
You saw what he did to you, that man was pure evil."
Edward walked closer to her and matched their feet as they looked at the corpse.
"If i didn't prepare for a situation like this, i'd be as dead as dead can be."
"You did the right thing Yandela."

Yandela turns away, leaning into Edward's hold as tears begin leaking from her eyes. "I-I... I didn't... I don't even remember..."

"Shush." Edward embraced her.
"You, know more than anyone else what he would have done to you had you not been able to fight back.
"There are people in this life, that want nothing more than to see others suffer.
To cause pain, trauma and distraught.
When faced with an individual of that type of manner like our dead friend over there, no amount of reasoning can be used."
He wiped the tears from her cheeks.
"In his eyes, it was either survive or be hunted."
"You survived.
And very elegantly too, don't you think for one minute that i didn't hear those fire spells you fired at him."
The Time Lord smiled.

Yandela presses the heel of her palm to one of her eyes, trying to stifle her tears. He wasn't worth them, and yet... She couldn't breathe from what felt like the collapse of her own chest, but she knew it was just... Surely not grief. Not for him. But perhaps the loss of innocence... The loss of clean hands...

He stared at her. It was easy to understand the thoughts within her mind.
"Yandela.
I understand your view, you've just killed a human being.
The thing is though, you did it to protect an individual- an acquaintance maybe even a friend or whatever the hell i am to you.
But you did it to protect and that is what separates you from him.
Your innocence hasn't been lost. It's simply evolved into a greater, more developed form of innocence.

She was still within his arms as he gazed down at her.
"You see, there are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke, and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold.
Come on Yan, we've got work to do."

"...o-okay..." She breathes, closing her eyes against the scene, but making no other movement.

Edward finally released her.
"Come on, let's go outside. I'm absolutely positive that the shard will be inside the tavern somewhere."
Mars entered the scene.
'Sorry i was late. Holy!, what happened here?'
Edward looked at Yandela then switched to Mars.
"Long story, let's just get out of here."

Yandela brushed past both Mars and Edward, holding her self tightly as she made her way outside. She made her way to the tavern a few buildings over, sighing.

Mars turned his gaze to Edward.
'What's wrong with her?'
Edward didn't answer.
'Holy cow!, is that a burnt body over there?'
The Time Lord took a look at the body and then walked towards the exit.
"Mars, let's get going."
The two men walked in the direction of the tavern.
Edward hoped the sight of all the dead bodies he had left inside the dirty old tavern would not place Yandela in anymore saddened states.

Yandela opened the door to the tavern- and froze. "What's... What happened here...?"

The two men quickly entered after her.
Edward began to laugh nervously.
"These men tried to stop me when i attempted to rescue you."
He quickly regressed to his cocky-neutral attitude in an attempt to hide his feelings.
"In case you were wondering, this spectacle has nothing to do with my thoughts and personal feelings towards you.
Don't think i fought off all these pathetic individuals just so that i could find you.
That would absolutely absurd and ridiculous."
He walked around the tavern.
"Now let's search this place."
