Oh man, oh man! I remember joining one of these suckers. It was a long time ago. Let's just say I got Yamcha'd, meaning I didn't even make it past the first round. I was wondering if anyone else had experiences wih OCTs. I would try finding one on Deviantart, but here's barely any that are active.
I've been in a couple on dA. My opponents had a bad habit of backing out. >.< Winning by default isn't fun.
That said, Chaser and Kyra have both been in tournaments, and Sal was originally created to expand on a friend's idea for a food-themed team/league. (Friend had a ninja banana and another guy had a salt shaker super hero.)
I also tried spreading OCTs to Writing.Com, but while people liked the concept, there hasn't been a whole lot of participation and I have since passed running it on to someone else.

I actually run one. It has a Dragon Ball type of theme to it, but all OCs are welcome. We're a small group, but we'd love to see more players join.

I've been in two, I'm pretty sure. Though, I wasn't very good at either of them because I got lazy through them. Also, the characters I used were pretty bad...
I also like it when it's an even fight, it improves both competitors.
Really?! I'll have to check that out Connan!

Basically, a bunch of folks put out a character of their own creation into some specific setting as defined by whoever's running it. They get paired off, and each creates their own piece in which their character is somehow overcoming their opponent's character; depending on the tourney, these can be comics, written pieces, animations, etc. The judge(s) decide which person in each pairing did the better job, and the winners move on to the next round. This continues, of course, until a final winner is selected. Presence of an overarching plot, and who defines that plot, can vary.

Yay DBZ! Anyway, an OCT is basically a huge tournament for everyone's OCs to duke it out. It is usually hosted by someone willing to give out prizes and such, with judges (trusted friends, etc.) Basically, you have to audition, and usually no canon characters are allowed. If you get in, you either have to make a comic, animation, or short story about the match your character is in. Your opponent will also be making a comic etc. The judges will decide who wins by voting, and the winner moves on to the next round. If he/she wins than your arc is the canon story. Is that good?
I've seen a lot if these before and have debated joining one. What'd be really cool is if somebody could pull off something like this for an rp.

It would be, but I imagine that would be very difficult. All the planning, matches, judging, etc. Though, I suspect that they'd be really fun to join. Hosting doesn't sound that bad either, but... there would be lots of things to do before, and during. Like auditions and such. But the journey is worth the reward I guess.
Yeah it'd be real fun.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm.......... Is this like the thing where they got a bunch of artists to make this one story where they would be 'sent in person to this strange world and they would have a chance to meet 2 of their OCs and when they met another person - friend or foe - they had to fight and the winner would move on'
I've seenone of those ages ago and I'd want to find it again~

It's kind of like that, though the artist isn't sucked into the world.
I 'kinda had an idea about that some time ago.
It was something called 'Battle Arena', a RP where players could set up certain conditions to pit their characters against each others. They could have an conflicting objective, acquiring some sort of powerful object, protecting a certain point like a king-of-the-hill game or just a fight to death or until the other resigns/flees.
I tried to set it up once but... It didn't end up so well. '

Would be cool to have some sort of tournament going in here
Although I personally would love to use two of my characters together whatever chance I get. Tag team~
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
How about a group?
