Perfect! Yeah regarding all of the mythical beings and different types of people I think youre right. I think it could be fairly normal to see others of different races such as elves, dwarves, etc. we can even discuss that many of them live in villages and kingdoms dedicated to their race, but Puck perhaps can be a trading kingdom where they come from all over.
There's so much world building its beautiful!
And I already love this handsom guy so much haha. I enjoy being able to construct the characters with people as well so this is good!
We can go character by charavter if you want and figure each of them out.
Sorry if my response is short, getting ready to leave but wanted to be able to reply to you~

I wouldn't mind being the soldiers son or miner or whatever. Strength and honor are the way to go. Besides, maybe he'll be the one who excels at fighting. What I was thinking of was a carefree boy who's a little bit overconfident, meaning he'll let his guard down a lot, especially if he thinks the battle is over.

Man, this is so much to take in. All of these ideas, just *head explodes*[/quote

Sounds good to me!! Start working on him and then we can have our group. From the looks of it so far you both have chosen make characters and I'm going to have a female. For fun we might even be able to throw in a love triangle of some kind later on down the road!
A few ideas that are indirectly relevant to the topic at hand.

I did mention a magic mineral earlier, but I've given it some thought, and I think it'd be really interesting if the lot of us was from a magic-mining town. There's a lot of plot potential for two simple reasons; social implications and immediate obstacle.
For the first, I had the idea that the magic mineral (gonna call it MM)is, perhaps, the blood of magical creatures, held in the tree roots of great oak trees. You have to dig deep to get to these roots, and the wood is hard as metal, necessitating the use of an enchanted pickaxe. However, this mineral emits a miasma when released from the earth (the tree purifies it; separate from the tree, it's poison), so miners often are often either very sickly or develop a resistance to it. This is why they cover their faces with wet kerchiefs and expose their children to the air, so it will not poison them terribly when they're older. (High resistance to poisons as a result). The MM poison could be a hallucinogenic, or incite spiritual visions. So if we were to inhale it, maybe we'd see a glimpse of the future? Could be all sorts of reasons why too -- maybe the MM is the roadway to the lifeforce of the world, for instance, the road fate travels by. (CUE ORACLE OF DELPHI ) XD
In addition, let's say that the kingdom our characters find themselves in makes MM their primary resource -- it's how they make their money, and they have a monopoly on it, and hoard most of it to themselves just to keep the prices inordinately high. Their mining places, therefore, are heavily fortified, and have security checks at every sector of the city. You need a permit to move within the city, and to travel out of it -- that could be our first quest, getting a permit by joining an adventuring guild or a mercenary troop or we could leave illegally instead, throw our lot in with bandits or gypsies.

So, Hero, if you were to be a miner in this situation, maybe you knew a certain shaft that heads outside of our territory, or maybe if you were a soldier, you'd be able to get us in good with the higher-ups, and make the permit process go a lot quicker. It all depends on the kind of character you want to make though -- an upstanding rule-keeper would probably not want to show friends preference.

Also love triangles are always hilarious fun x)

Also the huntsman's name shall henceforth be Chester!

Let's talk more about the characters! What were your characters like in childhood? Were they upstanding members of society or did they get into trouble all the time too?

Was anyone setting fire to anthills alongside Chester? xD
TheHero1208

I was thinking of a goody-two-shoes type of character. One that has trouble doing bad things since it goes against his "Code", let's say, However, if breaking the rules is the better option then following them, he will. His actions are usually based on if he thinks it'll do some good. So, this character, who's name has been confirmed to be Bowie (Like David Bowie, but without the David), is most likely to do whatever he thinks is right.
As a child? He was a good kid, and trained to be a soldier like his father. Although, he still has lots to learn, he's a natural fighter. Although, he sometimes worked in the mine to help put food on the table, when he came of age. But he's not a very good miner, mediocre at best. He specializes in a one-handed (wooden) sword. Bowie never got into trouble that much, and when he did, it was mostly minor things.
With Chester? How about Bowie liked hanging out with him, and ended up being dragged into more trouble than he should have. Even though Bowie doesn't really approve of Chester's jokes, he thinks of him as a good, if immature friends.

I think that's all I got. Feel free to add anything guys. A love triangle would be fun.

Also, the mining idea seems cool.
WishfulThinking Topic Starter

really digging the concept of the mineral, that can definitely come into play. The way that the mineral can be combined into their lives everyday is very unique. Do we want this portion of the mineral to be in Puck or in Grandy? Or the mineral grows in both places but is more abundant in one?

Character wise I'm thinking my lil girl would be around 18 years old, but be smaller in stature so no one thinks she's actually 18 years old. She and Chester were probably getting themselves into a lot of crazy situations when they were younger that's for sure. If Chester was lighting anthills on fire than my girl would be adding twigs to the flame to make it grow larger.
I'm gonna play around with the idea of her concepts and build her a profile here in a bit. I can see what I can come up with and reply back to this thread when I have some more details :)
I'm so glad you both like the mining idea :D this is gonna be fun >v< ideas back and forth, woo!

MM could have some small veins in Grandy, but in Puck it should be very abundant. Perhaps in the ancient past, Puck was the battlefield of a great war between magical species. The kingdom we're in (specifically, a divided territory within Puck) derives its power and influence from the massive monetary influx it gets from MM monopoly.

Took notes on your character, Hero!

Goody two shoes Bowie
1. has a moral code that he sticks to
2. trained as a soldier
3. father is a soldier
4. mines as a $$ hobby
5. one-handed sword
6. Chester got Bowie into trouble, yet somehow Bowie still thinks of him as a good friend

Hopefully this is good x)

okay, so I got some suggestions that I hope are not impertinent. for #2, #3, and #4. What if his father was originally a miner, and brought his kid into the mineshafts with him, taught him how to navigate and how to use the pickaxe and stuff, but died either in an accident (cave-in mebe) or from overexposure to MM miasma. This way your guy would have been building up a resistance to MM miasma from a young age, and maybe even holds in his heart a bit of suspicion towards the mining operation, his father having died in the ruthless work job(EDIT: ahhh! Maybe thats why he mines as a hobby! Aside from the extra cash, he also wants to investigate his father's death??) Afterwards, Bowie is adopted by his father's good friend, a soldier, and raised like the soldier's own son. He could be around 9 or 10, just old enough to learn new stuff but remember the mining too. It's just an idea, don't feel pressured. I'll not mind a bit if you have something else in mind or liked your idea better!

As for Chester friendship, maybe they became friends when Chester pulls a prank that accidentally incriminates Bowie, but Chester fesses up, and Bowie appreciates that, and they become friends afterwards (Maybe Bowie thought he owed Chester or helps Chester with his punishment, which is weeding the field or something). Chester'd think Bowie's a great guy, and really respect him, and even restrains his wild nature a bit, considers the feelings of others because of how Bowie's scolded him in the past. How's that? :3

I can definitely imagine Chester becoming friends with your girl, Wish, by dropping a frog in her bag and seeing her the next day put that same frog in the teacher's desk (erm, assuming they have a school. I was thinking along the lines of how schools were during the Wild West, just a little schoolhouse with a bunch of students crammed in and often absent). A slow partnership of prankitude begins, or rivalry, or a little of both x)
WishfulThinking Topic Starter

Loving the additions!! :) the pranking rivalry is perfect for the two of them, and we can really come up with fun scenarios that the two of them most likely ended up in as children.
So here's a few bullet point ideas for what I'm thinking my girl could be like~ let's see what I can come up with! :)

1. Her name will be Petra
2. She's 18 years old
3. Gets herself into situations by being more stubborn and willful, often yikes her own doing
4. Parents live in grandy and she lives with her grandparents until they pass on.
5. I'm thinking perhaps her grandfather was a tinker of some kind maybe? Or some kind of skill that she inherits some of those abilities as he raises her.
6. Cute fun fact: she had a missing tooth in her mouth for the longest time because of something Chester did x)
7. She hates dresses, and Rebels against the common dress code and will either wear pants openly or underneath her required skirt or dress

We're getting there!
Hmm, I'll do one for Chester too!

1. Chester was raised by the huntsman, who takes the family (consisting of Chester, his mum, and his da) out on hunting treks through the nearby forest. They're one of the few families with a hunting permit, which gives them a brief leave from the city -- they have to return by a certain date or else forfeit their citizenship.

2. His parents took the approach of "He'll figure it out" when it came to most things, so Chester was left to his own devices in the forest, and with advice from his father and mother, learned how to take care of himself and live off the land. He's used to learning with his hands and being stimulated by a variety of sights and smells, so on the off days that they were in town (they're home all winter, practically. Snowed in.) he was a real handful, and left to his own devices.

3. He misbehaves to get attention, since his parents are often off doing their own things, and sort of treat him like wolf parents do their young (a rather free-spirited parenting approach. Intervene only when the child is in danger or misbehaving extensively.). It's not really a conscious action; so far as he understands it, he just put spiders and things in people's stuff because he thought it was funny, especially the angry expressions. There's some truth to that; he's come to enjoy the sport of it, and he does find it terribly boring inside of the Fort town. (Maybe we could call their Mining Fort Cornwall or Dunwall or Tinwall or somethin')

4. He's unreliable, though he often doesn't realize it. Not for lack of trying, he fails to keep commitments because he easily forgets what isn't right in front of him. Chester tends to live in the present and immediate, and takes opportunities when they're in front of him. He's rather reckless as a result of this, too.

5. He's got a thing for gentleman bandits. The tales are told of chivalrous thieves that take only half of their victim's riches, that treat their prisoners very kindly, kiss the lady's hand as they go. Chester adopted some of these mannerisms, but still hasn't gathered up the gall to kiss a girl's hand.

6. That's right. He's also a thief and a sneak. The time spent pent up in the winter left to his own devices left him with idle hands, and idle hands are the devil's workshop. Over the winters, he got quite good at picking people's pockets ("If they're willing to strut around with it on their belt, they can spare the coin.") and running along the rooftops, finding hiding spots to stash his ill-gotten coin and get away from the prying eyes of guards. He's tried to keep this unscrupulous behavior a secret from Bowie, but he knows his good friend may suspect something.

7. He's skilled with the bow, and crafty with a knife. When he's not stirring up mischief, he's uncharacteristically meticulous in his whittling, or fletching, or keeping his bow intact. It's one of the few things he can concentrate on for very long.
TheHero1208

Actually I like your idea, Virtu. That would also improve his physical fitness overall, as well as his skills to cope with loss. Bowie felt terrible, and hoped this fate would hurt anyone else. This would make him a less effective warrior on the field, since he knows what it's like to lose someone, he just can't bring himself to kill, yet he wants to fight. Not to kill, but to defeat. Though, he won't admit it (someone more ruthless could finish off his enemy?) It'd be a good obstacle for him to overcome in his travels. Bowie would train to become a better warrior almost everyday, and then work in the mine in his free time, as an extra way of staying in shape. Perhaps since his adoptive father was a soldier, he'd know his way around not only one-handed swords, but two-handed swords as well. Though, he hasn't learned axes, and isn't exactly the fastest. Still, he's second to only his adoptive father, in terms of swordplay. Maybe?

Bowie would probably end up helping Chester out of showing him that he was grateful for what he did (fessing up). Although, during the work, Bowie told him all about Honor, the Bowie Code, and how in doing good things, good things will happen to you (with a rant about doing the right thing)

And for Petra and Bowie, I've been brainstorming ideas on how they'd met, but I'm not sure yet...
Sweet! And real nice, love what you've done with it, how you make the event affect your character like that. x) And haha, the Bowie code is basically Karma? I think it'd stick with Chester that because he fessed up, Bowie became his friend, and therefore trusts Bowie'll at least be there so long as Chester's done the right thing.

ALSO I love talking weapons. Guardsmen/soldiers would likely be primarily trained in the bastard sword (aka hand and a half sword. you can use it 2 handed or 1 handed, and it's midlength.), in the square shield or round shield (as opposed to the buckler, which requires extensive training), bows (along with fire arrows, etc.), and the spear. Other weapons may have some specialists that'd teach them, but it's not likely that they'd be part of their basic training nor necessary to guardsman life. Bowie would likely also be trained in how to deal with magical attacks, how to prepare himself against them and counter them.

As for him being the best at the sword among the guardsmen, that's certainly possible! Especially if the fact that he started training so late caused him to double his efforts, which eventually lead to, say, his winning first place at single combat sword tournaments.

As for how Petra and Bowie meet, hmmm any ideas, Wish?

I'm starting to lean towards the idea that Chester meets Petra through Bowie instead (Bowie introduces her, Chester gives her the frog, the rest follows). Some ideas are that circumstance causes Petra and Bowie to meet through the mine, or maybe Bowie helped her out at school, or it could be some kids were picking on Petra and Bowie stood up for her/beat up the bullies.
TheHero1208

Thanks. I thought that since he was so passionate, it'd make sense he'd care for everyone, even those who have done him wrong. Another lesson from his late father? I was thinking his father wanted to be a soldier, but couldn't since he was injured/wasn't able to for some reason earlier(?) So, his father decided to study strategy in his free time, and teach it to Bowie. That's the reason Bowie fights, to fulfill his fathers dreams? IDK.
The Bowie Code consists of four words: Respect. Honor. Humility. Loyalty. If one of these main virtues is broken, then Bowie is no longer Bowie. The Bowie Code and the karma thing were meant to be separate, sorry I wasn't clear on that.

I love weapons as well. Swords, basic spears, etc. How about this? Bowie liked the sword better than anything else, and dedicated himself to it. Soon he was the best at it, and worked hard to perfect his technique. But, he never bothered learning the other weapons extensively. He can use a spear and shield, but it's not as effective as him using a sword. He never really liked the bow, since he sucked at using it. There's still alot he can learn in using the other weapons. Maybe Chester could help him?
For magical attacks, he knows to not get hit. He also knows which spells are extremely dangerous, ie can't be blocked. Bowie can block some attacks, like a basic fireball, and (if he anticipates it) can even block them with his sword. Speaking of swords, I was thinking of a sword unique to him? Perhaps a sword longer and heavier than that of the basic guards sword. It could be made to look like gold, but is actually steel (or something) to fool his enemies into thinking it'll break? I don't know, just ideas.

That could work. He knows lots of strategies and his body knows the muscle memory of sword fighting.

Something like that could work Virtu. Have any input Wish? Also, I might as well draw Bowie, ehehehe!

How about Chester? Anymore ideas, or...
ahh, gotcha. That's definitely a personal code indeed. :)

Yeah, as for the personalized sword, I think it could easily be explained as his prize for winning the tournament. Maybe it's enchanted via MM sprinkled on the blade as it was forged, and a certain spell (fire spell, perhaps, or even an antimagic spell) chanted as it cooled (thus, an en-chant-ing, hehe). Otherwise, the sword could just be done with exemplary craftsmanship and have an advanced hilt guard for which he could learn a more complex dueling art.

Chester would definitely help teach Bowie the bow; he'd explain how it's about the breathing, the seeing, and the anticipating. It could be an ongoing tutorship that usually ends prematurely when Chester gets distracted or Bowie cracks a joke.

Yeah, perhaps Bowie even had to memorize how to profile a mage -- he looks for signs of MM dust or maybe he has a certain liquid in a vial that changes colour when MM miasma is present.

As for strategy stuff, I'm not sure. Guardsmen would be taught basic formations, but they wouldn't be taught strategies or anything. Books would be extremely expensive since they were written by hand, so the only way Bowie's father would know strategy would be either by having stolen the book, is the descendant of a tactician (in which case, the book would likely be outdated), or was gifted the books for some reason. It's likely that only noble-born would have access to such information, however, but it's your call overall. Tactics could just be something he has a mind for -- maybe he is apprenticing to the captain of the guards and is getting used to managing their materials and getting a feel for controlling a larger group by understanding what each person is capable of.

I'd love to see your depiction of Bowie +__+ lookin' forward to it!

As for more ideas about Chester, hmmm, I do like the idea of the three of them making a blood oath to treat each other as family and never keep secrets, never forsake, always have each other's back. I think Chester could've been caught for stealing at one point-- how would the other characters react to him being thrown in the dungeon below? Also maybe I should give him a pet. A hunting hound, a falcon, or maybe a ferret, dunno. Probably the ferret, since that's a little fierce and less conspicuous. Also, would Chester have met Bowie before his father died? If so, then how did Bowie deal with that loss? If he's the type to deal with it on his own, it's likely Chester and he would've been a bit distant for a while before reconnecting somehow (ohh, that could be where Chester getting caught for stealing comes in, as a reconnection thing?)

Also I was planning to make Chester the one of the group that doesn't have any dead family members, but doesn't have much of a relationship with them either, even though they get along really well, there's no real loyalty or affection. Maybe there could be a reason for that... like maybe one of his parents is an adulterer, and that's torn the family relations apart even though they all go through the surface-level motions of being a family still.

http://rpg.ashami.com/ Also this is really helpful for making characters. Now that I've an idea of what to do with Chester, I'll use this to finalize the concept +__+
TheHero1208

Well, it works XD

I like the MM thing, being able to Spellbreak stuff? I dunno. If timed right it could absorb said spell. Maybe it needs magic energy to work, so it has to absorb magic? I liked the firebit as well. Or something original, like the sword does additional damage to a certain enemy, or increases the wielders abilities? (You're very punny) I really like the Anti-magic enchantment though, but perhaps it won't work on powerful spells?

Bowie, despite having Bow in his name, might get a little frustrated after not being able to hit a target, but Chester encourages him to keep going? "Yeah, a warrior needs to know his way around every weapon..."

You bring up a good point. Perhaps Bowie just has a knack for battle, after hearing his dad explain huge battles over and over. Why the army that won, won in the first place. But he can only control a group of less than 10-15? Something like that. Perhaps Bowie likes being the leader. He knows how to use peoples strengths. Perhaps he's the Might of our ragtag group of misfits.

Don't worry, I'll try to draw him. I also like the way you made Chester look.

That sounds like something they'd do. Bowie would have another code to follow, but he'd still be as vigilant as ever! I think Bowie would be disappointed in Chester, and would try to help him with his "problem". It sounds like something he'd do. I think that Bowie would have met him before. However during that time, he just needed a lot of time to think to himself. It got really deep, and left a scar in his mind. Maybe Bowie thinks it's his fault? He was supposed to be working in the mine with dear old dad, but slept in, and on that day his dad died? Something like that, as a reason why he has a hard time saying no/being as nice as possible. To fulfill his fathers dream of Bowie being a great fighter, defender, to protect life. The Might of Puck? I like the whole reconnection thing with Chester being caught stealing, and Bowie sees this as a chance to put his thoughts aside and help others?

That sounds reasonable. All of different backgrounds, contrasting one another so much, yet they're all still friends. I have a feeling Bowie will try to come up with a team name or something.

Sounds good. I'll try that too, and make a profile for Bowie sometime tomorrow or the day after.
WishfulThinking Topic Starter

Hehe, I'm gone for a little bit and theres tons to catch up on! I love it! Tons of character development!

So lets see. Regarding Bowie and Petra, lets see what we can come up with. Perhaps as a young child, I'm actually thinking she was pretty soft and almost really shy. intimidated by alot of things and usually pretty quiet. She did grow up with her grandparents after all. Most likely they were people of the older generation, so they were more strict. (Children should be seen, not heard) She could easily meet Bowie in school, as he helps her out with kids bullying her. I may give her some sort of kind of physical aspect that stands out. Whether it be a birthmark, or maybe heterogenous eyes. Which would make sense as to why young kids would bully her. But as she met Bowie she started becoming more brave, standing up for herself, etc. And than once she met Chester, started taking on aspects of playing pranks. They can make her feel empowered, and not as weak as she used to be when she was younger. Making her feel like she is in control, instead of being the one that was bullied.
I'll have to draw her up, she'll be a real cutie!
Round face, tiny little nose, high cheek bones. Either round or almond shaped eyes. Medium length hair in low messy braids.
Were getting there! :) So far I couldn't ask for a better trio!
Hmm, for the sword... that's a difficult question. I like the idea of antimagic too, but it would be difficult to explain. Maybe it absorbs magic instead? And gets hotter to the touch with the more it absorbs, and would melt if a spell's super strong? That might be a good limiter for it, and make Bowie a bit careful with the weapon.

Yeah, Chester would love having someone serious like Bowie to teach about archery. I mean, Chester has only a few people he can talk seriously with, and Bowie's one of em. He'd definitely encourage Bowie to keep it up. (Also, heh, ya caught my bow thing, didja? x) )

Yeah, it can definitely be a talent of Bowie's to consider things on a tactical level. He'd probably think in formations and supply lines while Chester would come up with outrageous plans (like hey, why don't we make some pitfalls with spikes on the bottom?) that Bowie can organize and make realistic, which would help grow him as a tactician, hopefully.

Thanks, btw, glad ya liked Chester pic x) it turned out alright, phew!

Also nice on the ideas about Bowie's internal struggle. I really like the strong brotherly bond between him and Chester. Good stuff!

As a side note... Pfft, hey hey, here's an idea. Chester was one of the bullies, and he got beat up the most. Hehehe >v>

and yus! More drawings! My eyes are ready!

Hello! I'm looking to start up an original concept RP that can be anything from adventure, to suspense, etc. I am open to many different ideas and want to see where the characters end up!

I normally RP as a female, but can RP with anyone. We can totally play with the ideas of romance if you so desire.

Sorry if this is short, still getting the hang of things and testing the waters!

I'll RP with you.
TheHero1208

That sounds like it could work, Wish. Since Bowie knows you should be nice to girls, he'd give the bullies a chance to repent. If they didn't, he'd take matters into his own hands.

Absorbs magic? That sounds plausible. Perhaps the sword is made out a special crystal with that ability? If it's low on power, it'll be see through, and not very hot, but when it's normal, it shines brilliantly, and has a warm feeling. If it gets overloaded, it will shine very bright, and burn like heck. Just another idea. I like yours as well.

(I did :D) Bowie might try to teach Chester stuff too? How to keep busy, fighting with a sword and/or shield. Something like that.

That sounds plausible. Bowie likes working, it keeps him busy, and not doing bad things. Bowie would question some of Chester's plans, but would have faith in his mind that they would succeed. As a tactician, this would benefit him greatly, since situations always tend to never go as expected.

No problem. I was just being honest.

It was just something I thought I'd throw out there, you know? Brothers. Like Blood Brothers. That's a good dynamic.

Maybe that's the reason Chester pranked Bowie? To get back at Bowie for getting beat up by him? That sounds funny.

MINE ARE TOO!

That's interesting! A crystal that absorbs magic, nice. I can imagine the miners have hats and clothes sprinkled in that kind of crystal dust, or it's auper expensive in solid form and sold diluted like salt in water. It'd make the sword worth a fortune, so it'll probably be stolen at some point. Quest time then! It makes for a good visual too!

Sounds great! Chester would be a terrible student though, especially since he's only ever learned by mimicking others.

I'm glad you did! Bros forever +__+

Yeah! So the timeline would go like:

Chester+other bullies bully Petra, gets beat up by Bowie --> Bowie becomes Petra's protector, is subject to Chester revenge pranks --> Chester frames Bowie via prank, and fesses up after --> Bowie helps with the punishment, they become friends --> Petra tags along, and Chester comes to see her as a rival for pranks when she picks up his bad habits. They three become playmates, go swimming together, do chores, fight for king of the hill, sneak into the mine and find secret paasageways, and other such kid fun. Time goes on, and Bowie's father dies and his home changes. He grows distant from Chester and the group starts to get distant, Chester steals and gambles during adolescence until --> Chester gets caught, thrown into prison. The judge sentences him to a thief's penalty -- chop off his hand. But Bowie vouches for Chester, brings him food in prison, etc, and friendship is restored. --> they all start hanging out again and at the start of the rp, Petra's grandparent passes away.

That about right, ish? :0

Here's Bowie! ( The reason he has so many cracks in his armor is because he thinks that they hold memories, and doesn't want to get them erased. Just like the scar on his chin)Should I draw the sword as well? Speaking of the sword, I like the crystal idea. Though, I want a unique design for it. Any more ideas on this crystal sword? I'm trying to think of a name for it, something unique (because Bowie's weird like that)

Bowie would try his best to put up with Chester's difficulty to teach. It'd make him a better leader as well as a better friend.

*ultimate high five*

That seems right. Any other ideas, Wish?

I drew the sword. If there's anything that should be changed, I'm all ears. Maybe it should be called "Lightbringer", "Heartseeker", or "Oathkeeper" I dunno.
