Not far from many villages of the region rests the ruins of an old temple. The local villages say it is bad luck to go near the temple. Everyone, especially travelers, are forbidden from entering the temple, for fear that the spirit that haunts the temple would return. When one village learns that a traveler or one of their own had wandered into the temple, the village agrees to return her there and sacrifice her, in hopes to prevent the spirit from resurfacing. By the time the group of soldiers and the sacrifice arrive though, it is too late, and the entity has power within his temple once again.
Magic may be accepted as truth but is not common. It might be harnessed only by specific beings. Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones.

Distant war may be part of the setting, but any scenes that happen to involve combat will likely be summarized, not played out in detail.
