Hiiii, I really don't know what to do here. I am a creative writer who wants to better my skills by trying out role playing. I have many friends who do it, but they all have at least three going on so I would really love is someone could teach me the wise ways to RP. I already have a character set up to start with, but depending on who wants to help me learn, I am more than willing to reshape Ash in a better image (hehe, cause they are a shapeshifter...heh that was bad). So anyway, would looooove if someone could help teach me and I promise I will do my best, be a good student, and respect my senseisempaisansama. I hope you have a great rest of your day and looking forward to hearing from anyone!

Hi there and welcome to RPR, Fiara. I'm Hibari, and I see that you need some help in how to roleplay. Well, I've been roleplaying for 6 1/2 years now, and it's just here in RPR that I've learned more about it. And if you like, here's a link that can get you started. But hey, if you ask me, you don't need to know a lot. All you need is your unlimited imagination and creativity. So anyway, enjoy your stay! <3
We've got a spiffy little starter guide here, actually! Beyond that, folks are usually quite helpful if you simply speak up and ask. ^^

So welcome!
Hi and welcome aboard! With the guides' links posted and shared already, I'm sure you'll be up and ready in no time! I'd be happy to test and/or evaluate your performance if you wish to know how much you've learned. Then again, there's not much to learn. XD

Either way, hope you enjoy your stay! Feel free to chat! ^_^

Hi Fiara, welcome to RPR! I concur with everything that's been said. :) A good way to practice is to create a 'Looking for RP' topic and letting people know you're new and want to learn. Usually someone drops by who's interested in teaching you. :D Good luck!
Well, I would like to second what people above have said about getting help for roleplay! It is great you have such an interest in roleplaying. Are your friends on this site? You could tell them about us if they aren't!
Welcome to RPR!

Welcome to RPR! Don't be nervous about being new, everyone had to start somewhere. As you can see everyone here is super friendly so don't be afraid to PM and ask someone for RP if a character strikes your interest :)

Hi! Sorry for the delay, I've been pretty distracted by the holiday, but my welcome is no less sincere! So nice to meet you. :)

That starter guide article that was already posted is an absolutely fantastic place to get started. Even if you have some RP experience, it can be a nice way to see what the general norm is here.

However, when it comes to styles and systems, we can't give you a single "this is how it is here!" answer.

Our goal is to provide the general tools so that people can do any kind of RP that they want. I think that's part of what sets us apart from most other RP sites, which are often built to work with a specific system (ex. D&D 3.5) or style (ex. paragraph freeform) or even setting (ex. Harry Potterverse). So just ask your RP partners if they have any special rules or guidelines you should keep in mind when getting started -- it's probably also a good idea to let people know your own boundaries or preferences, as you learn them. :)

We also had some community discussions awhile back about how to improve at RP.. I boiled them down into interesting articles for those who are interested. Here's a selection of my favorite ones:

Writing for RP
The responsibility of ALL RPers (getting this one right will generally make people sing your praises!)
And if you want to put a slightly more advanced technique in your back pocket for now and again: Using dice to enhance RP

There's lots of things to do and try here, so if you need help, there's a few ways to get help. You can always try typing your question into the search box, or you can check the help section. If that fails, the community here is very friendly. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions!
