I've noticed something over my past couple of years here on RPR, I hardly ever see anyone complement or comment other people's characters on the said character's profile. I think it would be a great idea to have a week devoted to character appreciation. A week where we show our love and support of other players' hard work. Whether that means posting a character Kudos or just leaving an in-character comment like an inside joke between characters, just something to show appreciation.
Anyone else think they could get behind this idea?

I could! I hardly ever - and by hardly ever I mean never- use the comment section in characters' profiles, so that'd be interesting.
Sounds like a great idea to me! There have been quite a few characters that I've been meaning to leave a comment on, but never seemed to get the time to do.
Lovely idea! How about, by the end of the appreciation week (or month), the most appreciated characters get featured as popular characters?
Also I'd like feedback too. Stuff that I write can be confusing or need detail, and I always love to hear suggestions to make my character better! A week to dedicate to those kinds of character responses could be rather helpful for folks like me.
Perhaps there could also be a certain bank where people can submit characters to be reviewed?
Hm, just some ideas that came off the top of my head, but most importantly, I am in full support of your idea, Virus

Accolades for reviewing the most characters maybe? c:
I agree with all of this.
I know that a lot of us put so much time into making these characters exist.
...Kudo trade?

Keep in mind while planning this that the festival of being excellent to each other is coming up in just a few days. During FOBETEO there will be a recap of last year's event where giving a certain number of kudos would result in getting an accolade. Kudos on characters would absolutely count toward that!
If you guys get a thread together for submitting characters for feedback or kudos, I will be happy to tweet it (along with our other various social media outlets!)

Great ideas all around, and a top notch idea from you Kim, I was hoping this thread would snag you eventually.
How would we go about doing that? Where and when should I make this thread?
Love this idea

I think where/when/how to do this thing was the discussion topic at hand in this thread!

I really like this idea.
I am so excited (if you can't tell above) that this thread is getting so much attention! Let's all prepare for the FOBETEO event Kim has in store for us!!!

A character appreciation week sounds great. This part here makes me nervous though, about accolades. Why?
In all honesty, I personally feel like the only time some get Kudos is during these events which makes it feel...less special. Like you only received a Kudos so someone could get something, not because they really think your character or you are anything interesting. I'm not the best at explaining things, as you can tell but it just seems so much less exciting than when one is received on a normal day, when they seem more personal and really meant.

I kind of agree with this, to be honest. Stuff like kudo trades also apply. They seem less, well, meant.
I already go and PM people about their characters and ask things from them regarding that character xD My daily life~
As a person who has a series of their own, I am very curious as of what other people have created

I don't know about competitions though... That coullllld get people more active, but it might throw away some of the heart of the kudos. People doing it 'just because'. I dunno, might be a bit negative of me, but I'm afraid of people just flooding placed with "nice" "cool" and stuff like that, or just copypasting the same stuff everywhere. I dunno.... I love how nice the people are here, but it's some old inner thing that has burned a mark in my head
I personally don't want to post Too much publicly, fearing that the other person won't like me 'messing up' their page. Also, I like chatting and asking questions, I'm curious, a simple kudos might not be enough? I dunno, I probably sound weird
Aaaaasnd lastly.... There is something in me that would like to receive all the comments at once, like opening Christmas presents or something~ It'd get me exited and I'd have something to look forward to

I can kind of see where you're coming from with a fear of offering accolades, but on the other hand, most accolades are essentially a thank you note. To me, people running a charity marathon, or pouring time and energy into a super thoughtful homemade gift they know their friend will love, are not less admirable because they got a certificate of participation or a thank you card.
But are people more likely to do nice things if they know they will be shown some appreciation in return, such as in the form of a written thank you? Heck yes. For sure.
If the goal here is to run an event, where a special emphasis is put on making time to remember to write these kudos during this week instead of continually putting it off until some mythical day when you "have more time" or the words "just come to me", accolades are a fantastic way of making the week seem special and encouraging people to do today what they think they are going to do tomorrow (and tomorrow they will think they will do it the following day, and so forth...)
Which is why I'm suggesting you run this character-kudos drive during FOBETEO (which starts tomorrow!) since FOBETEO includes its own, general reminder to tell your RP friends how awesome you think they are via distrubuting kudos, complete with accolades. If you guys want to remind people to leave comments on individual characters instead of just on users, it's really opportune timing.
If you guys decide you don't want accolades involved, you may wish to avoid FOBETEO.
I do want to point out -- the majority of kudos are left on user accounts because that kudos will count for all non-anonymous characters on that account. If you want a person to leave kudos on all or some of your individual characters instead, you're asking people to do much more work, and trying to get them to change their habits. A really pointed thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty could be appropriate, and will better help the new habit to stick. Whether that's done in the form of accolades, kudos in return, doodles celebrating how great people are, or whatever!
Kudos like this are deleted by moderators on a daily basis, and if necessary, any related accolades are removed.

It sounds like there may be two parts to character appreciation week: kudos, and discussion. They're quite different requests to make of people, and probably both need their own promotion and structures (like, a dedicated discussion thread where people can post asking for feedback on specific parts of their characters).
Maybe once you've got a clear idea of what you want to include in this particular appreciation week, someone should start a google doc with drafts of opening posts for topics? Then suggestions can be submitted by everyone interested in helping to plan.
