It's strange. You'd think at least one time on this site a person could have made an RP about a certain thing you like or want to be in RP form. But for the most part, it generally doesn't happen. One would be a Star Wars themed RP, although some have been done before, they're generally quite rare for the most part.
In my opinion, a Half - Life, or Shadowrun-esqe RP would be pretty dang cool.
What are some Themes or Genres that you would like to see in an RP? What makes you want to see that Genre or Theme appear in an RP?

I definitely think that a Half Life or Star Wars RP would be awesome, seeing as I am a huge fan of both series. There is a neat little line of custom made toys called Acid Rain World and it has a pretty nice backstory/setting. I would definitely partake in an rp based off of or similar to that. ( Here's the link http://acidrainworld.blogspot.com/ ). Another RP that would be awesome would be one based on the Dying Earth and/or The Book Of The New Sun novel series. I also think that an rp based on Lovecraft's mythos set in like the 1930's, akin to his story At The Mountains Of Madness would be very cool, as I don't see any rps like it. A Star Wars vs Star Trek (or something along those lines) would be friggin' awesome.
Ten years ago, Star Wars RPs were pretty common. These days, any you find would be a rare sight.
I completely expect that to change once the Abrams movie comes out.
As far as I can tell, the most common types of RPs today are Romance/Soap Opera (usually mixed heavily with Fantasy or anime "High School" settings), Superheroes (no doubt thanks to all the Marvel films we get every year now), and anything which could fit within the High Fantasy genre. If your interests - like mine - don't match these, you'll be lucky to get a single RP once a month. And with how frequently RPs seem to lose steam, often due to real life concerns, you'd sometimes need more than one a month if you hope to keep your ideas fresh before another one strikes you.
Personally, I'd like to see more Low Fantasy - a form of fantasy which isn't concerned with magic as central to the characters. A little magic in the setting isn't so bad, but when characters can wield it, the result is often High Fantasy - with lots of heroism bordering on the Superhero genre. Know what the biggest challenge with Low Fantasy is though? Trying to make it about an adventure. A medieval quest in a fantasy world without magic is like blasphemy... or, at least, very few seem to like it. T_T

Your point sounds quite alot like the Monster Hunter game series. You get to fight dragons and other mythical and vicious beasts of the imaginative wild in a fantastical world. (there aren't any floating islands, but there sure are some mystical monuments and waterfalls!) Yes, there is magic in the game which you can wield(kind of), but you can't use it with your bare hands. There are things called monster horns(?) which use bardish/musical magic to buff you and your allies, and an insect glaive(?) which you can shoot a pellet of green energy/goop at an enemy and make your bug friend attack for you and buff you.

Also, what's your opinion? Do you think potion alchemy is a kind of magic? (or, layman's terms, alchemy, or potion making)

That depends. If we're talking about doing the physically impossible with chemicals, then it's magic. But, as I said, that wouldn't bother me as much as every plot or character revolving around it. It's like this: you've got the kind of fantasy where the character wields great magic (or supernatural alchemy) to accomplish their goals; then you've got the kind where they either can't rely on said magic/alchemy or they simply can't predict any outcomes from using it. In the latter example, I like to think of magic that's beyond anyone's control.
Seems like it would also match the criteria for "something that's rarely been done in any RP".

Anything based off an obscure game. Yakuza, Live a Live and Wild ARMs. Come to think of it. I never seen epopel do any Mario Bros type Rps.
Genre wise. I like adventure and action. However, I don't see any or even much that have something where we have treasure hunts or some really fun action sequences.

Thought I'd pitch in to this again. I think perhaps a Western/Civil War/Post Civil War type rp would be great to see. (Thinking of Quentin Tarantino's new movie The Hateful Eight)
For me, I rarely see Crossover Rp's. Crossover is one of my favorite Genres as it allows my favorite characters of work A to interact with my favorite characters from work B. I also love the Giant Monster genre, which is extremely rare. Atleast on this site. Makes me want to try my hand and start one.
I almost forgot to say this.
I hardly see Wild West Rps or anything that involves cowboys.

I love Crossovers!
