RP thread!

Hi! This is the discussion thread for "Flight from Castle Paldwyn." If anyone wants to do anything big in the plot mention it here for discussion. :) This goes for introducing new characters, major plot points, etc.

PCs
  • Catherine Fournier: The rightful heir to the throne of Indar, cast into exile when her uncle and aunt took over the throne. She now travels with a bounty on her head.
  • Adelbard Laudessagne: Catherine's personal guard and a knight at court.
  • Rose Duggens: A noblewoman in the late king's court.
  • Marianne: A princess visiting from Anthea, caught up in the coup.
  • Fredrick Augustine: A mercenary hired by the late king, currently separated from the party after a disagreement.
  • Shala Pau'ah: A lupine druid of the deep woods, intrigued by the strange party.
  • Kraven: A summoner hired by Lady Annisse to track down Catherine.
  • Arnold: A Vevarian of the Tempest Legion, currently partnered with Kraven.

NPCs
  • Annisse Braddshire: The wife of Bruander. It's generally accepted that she is the mastermind behind the coup and her husband's rule.
  • Bruander Fournier: the husband of Annisse and brother to the late Brandel. Not a very bright man--generally just listens to his wife.
  • Brendel Fournier: The former king of Indar, now deceased. Known for his kind, but expensive, acts of charity and raising the taxes for his court.

Setting and Plot Info
Indar is a fairly small country thick with lush forests and rippling plains, known for fine horses and silver mines. For the most part it is fairly flat, though the northern border is marked by a mountain range known as the Wyrmback, so foothills and low crags dominate much of the northern provinces. The capital city, Paldwyn, is located in the southeastern part of the country, a few days' ride from the ocean shoreline. An important part of daily life is the church, which honors a pantheon of gods (feel free to make them up as you desire) and generally decries various forms of paganism. Homosexuality is considered taboo, though perhaps not as taboo as in real-world medieval Europe, and lady knights and soldiers aren't a terribly uncommon sight, though most folk in warrior professions are still men. Magic is accepted, but not prevalent, and tends to be regarded bit of suspicion, though it's not treated like witchcraft or anything like that.

Indar's former sovereign was known as King Brendel Fournier, a kind ruler a little too loose with his coin. He funded many charitable acts. Some of the court found such exploits to absolutely worth the cost--feeding the hungry, building bridges and roads, housing prisoners--while others resented his actions. He drew ire as he borrowed money from his court, forcing them to raise taxes and causing unrest across the land. Finally a coup was planned and carried out by one Lady Annisse Braddshire, the wife of the king's brother, Duke Bruander. With king and queen presumed dead and their only child (Marianne) missing with a bounty upon her head, Bruander now sits upon Indar's throne, though he's a mere figurehead for Annisse's rule.

Our story picks up the morning after the coup, after a night of hard riding to flee from the capital city of Paldwyn, where the king's castle is located. Once it seemed that they weren't being immediately pursued, the party got a couple hours of rest in a hastily erected camp, and now are awakening to discuss what they should to next...
Arnold the Lesser (played by TheTwilightWarrior)

I was thinking Arnold might stumble upon them while they trek through the forest. At first he'd be frightened due to his fear of the forest and the presence of the wolf druid (forgot her name xP) but in due time, he's convinced to travel with them.
I say, that's a fine idea! (Says the person not in the rp yet >_>)

Hmm but a lot has happened in the forest already. If I remember right, your character was shipwrecked and washed ashore, and currently wanders trying to get his bearings?

Maybe he could be an "on the road" encounter? I mean, a lot has happened in the forest already so maybe a change in location would keep the excitement going.

Also what's with Fredrick? Every post from that guy is so entertaining xD dun leaave nuo

Hmmm... Arnold has a deep fear of the forest and wolf-like creatures, so I could see this as an opportunity for character building (?). And I'd like to get into the RP as quick as I can, since now I have the most free-time.
I see :0 makes good sense, that
I think there was at least 3 pages worth of Rose and Fredrick arguing and throwing threats XD I feel like Rose's job is complete.

The party still has to get OUT of the forest, so they could run into him in the process, perhaps? He could have been trying to get to the capital city (Paldwyn) since it would bear a wealth of information about where he is and how to get back, but before reaching it he gets run off the road by bandits or highwaymen during the night. Now it's morning, and he hasn't been able to get back to the road yet. He could stumble across the party, or vice versa, maybe?

Hell, if you wanted to talk to Draken901, you could even see if Kraven and Arnold could be traveling together (even if it's just a very recent arrangement). Kraven himself hasn't entered the scene yet, only his birdies 8)

But I gotta go to bed now ;)

Hm, that does sound reasonable (the 2nd option) I'll see if I can talk to my good pal Draken once he's around. Sleep well :)
Don't worry virtu I'm still gonna post lol
Draken901

What'a the post order right now eh?
Adelbard Laudessagne (played anonymously) Topic Starter

Nonexistent... but I'm used to realtime group RPs wherein a post order leaves everyone waiting and bored, and this isn't like that. But some people do shorter quicker posts and some people do longer slower ones that encompass more actions. I don’t want two characters having a conversation to have to wait for everyone else, you know? Or get hung up on someone who's taking a long time to post... I've seen RPs killed because of POs! But I also don't want to punish people who can't check the thread often. So I dunno :)

Phew, that's a relief x)

I don't think you need worry too much about post order just yet, Adel. Things are moving quick and nice, folks have fun developments they're making happen c: you're doin' gr8, m8.

Also hey guis, I drew my character. Whadooya think?

Well from the shape of the jaw, I do believe virtu's character is male
Hear ye, hear ye! Freddie is a man of keen eyes and sound judgment!
Gotta have good eyes to be best marksmen around with a musket/flintlock pistol but for this RP it's a crossbow, lol
Draken901

Uhh.... is anyone going to post in the rp?
Draken901
