the last crack of bone finally resounded through the halls of the hideout. this gang had been harassing the city for over two months...no more. as he shakes his hands to return them to normal feeling, Ion walked past the remnants of what used to be the final firing line of foolhardy thugs protecting their "goods". as he approached door at the end of the hall, he couldn't help felling like he wasn't as alone here as he thought he should be. he had just taken care of all the targets...who could be left? his hands reignite with energy as he turned around to search the compound once again.
The woman crept through the darkness of the shelter, a cell phone in one hand and a brick from the crumbled exterior in the other. She was barely breathing for fear of being heard, moving at an exceptionally slow pace through the compound. It had been in a state of disuse for years now, but today she'd heard gunshots from within. In this part of town, that was not uncommon - but what had intrigued her were the flashes of light shortly after. She knew that light. It was something she hadn't seen in a long time, something that sparked memories of evil.
Magic.
Faintly, she heard light footsteps near the doorway. The woman slithered around the corner and ducked into a dark closet near the main hall, shutting the phone off. The dim light of the screen she had been using to navigate was extinguished, and it was dark again. She put it away and grasped the brick with both hands, able and willing to use it. Magic was supposed to be gone. But if it wasn't... well, it would be soon enough.

Ion slowly advanced forward, rounding the hallways end into a vast room he had pasted at least three times now. was there no planning to this place? the confusing layout almost made his head hurt. it was a wonder at all how these lowlifes could effectively work is such an ineffective place. he walked into the main hall, letting his guard relax. after all, it had been clear the first three times, it should be clear now. hes eyes caught sight of a shipping manifest on a nearby table. that was good: it would provide more names and locations, more evil men that needed punishment. he walked over and picked it up, letting all his power die down except for on his hand to allow him light to read.
Devi listened, straining her ears to focus on the footsteps from down the hall. They clicked nearer, and as she peered around the corner she saw faint blue light dancing on the walls. A tall, masculine figure entered, and Devi quickly drew out of sight. The light died to a faint glow, and she heard the rustling of papers. This was her chance - he was distracted, and presumably thought he was alone. She slipped out and tried to get behind the man, attempting to tackle him and strike him with the brick.
"Who are you?" she seethed.
"Who are you?" she seethed.
as the brick makes contact with the back of his head, the brick shatters, as expected with the force that was behind it. what was not expected was that the man would slowly turn his head around and glare at her as if the attack never happened. as he turned his eyes to her, he spoke.
"my name is Ion. what business do you have here?"
he turned fully toward her and opened his arms, a light show of energy and lightning racing across his arms and body, causeing the whole room to light up in an almost blinding aura of blue. she could feel the energy in the air.
"are you a part of these murderous thugs?"
he asked, words laced with anger.

Devi was caught off-guard. Fear rose bright and low in her throat, and she was beginning to sincerely regret acting on impulse. She composed herself to the best of her ability and laughed. "'Murderous thugs?' Funny you should say that, you being what you are." She tensed, sizing him up and weighing her options. The hall was left and behind her, maybe a forty-foot sprint and she could escape if she needed to. Devi stepped backwards, away from the heat and light that the man was emitting. "Quit the fireworks, lad. You're not impressing anyone."
"you think me a thug?"
he said, a twitch of anger flashing on his face.
"these people..."
he said using one hand to wave to the rest of the building behind him.
"...are thugs. they are responsible for the deaths of over 23 families...including..."
his power flickers and dies down a bit.
"including a friend..."
he said, his voice now an echo of pain. his power is almost completely gone at this point
"they took my friend...his family...and several more...the police didn't do anything..."
his voice hardens in determination.
"but i will! and if you are one of them i'm going to make you suffer!"

I was walking down the streets when i heard a shout of rage coming from someone and decided to check out what the commotion was all about.
"Of course I'm not one of them. You would have killed me by now with one of your fancy magic tricks." Devi grinned maliciously, straightening to her full height of five feet, six inches -- still far shorter than the man. She could see the light flickering. Perhaps she could evade his anger more easily once his magic was exhausted. So she would exhaust him. "Well? Why haven't you?"
"you haven't given me reason to yet...attack me if you want to fight so bad...or if you don't mean me any problems...say so"
he says relaxing his stance slightly.

I hide around a corner when i saw a man and a woman sourounded by dead bodies talking so i kept hiding listening to there conversation.
Devi stood still for a moment, glaring, then stepped back. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have attacked you." Her voice was suddenly tired, defeated. She was ashamed - for jumping to conclusions, for hurting him. He was just a boy, even by magical standards. But he was also a killer. "Your magic. A very similar power killed some... confidants of mine. The same way these men" -- she gestured to the bodies -- "killed the innocent. And the same way you then slaughtered them."
She turned away, feeling eyes on her back. The strange gut feeling that she was being watched rushed over her. She glanced from side to side, then peered down the hallway to the exit. She could see no one, but she wasn't about to neglect her instinct. "It may be just a hunch," she murmured, "but I believe we have a visitor."

ion managed to catch a glimpse of the figure running away through a damaged portion of the wall. with a quick flash of movement, ion ran faster than could be seen and cut him off.
"are you going somewhere?"
ion said to him as he stood in front of him.
"what reason do you have to be here?"
he spoke with an edge.
