She laughed uproariously in response as Joker shut down. "Oh my God, Chi. We haven't even been here for a full day!" She patted her on the shoulder. "We either hide you or go tell Aniele. That you accidenatlly shut down the AI with stories about trees!" Gen collapsed into a fit of laughter again, then stopped to the best of her ability. "Sorry. It wasn't your fault."
"I-It's fine... Besides, we should tell Aniele before she finds out herself, which might not be... Wait, oh no! I think she said something about another applicant! W-What if... Oh dear..." Chidori then groaned a little and resumed to hiding her head under her arms.
Irvin finishes designing his room and getting suited up. He walks through the ship to the mess hall and grabs some food before sitting down and eating quietly.
Interested by their conversation, Jack tapped Chidori's arm with a bit of enthusiasm. "I have some books too if you want. All of my friends gave me one form where their lineage sprouted." he said, cracking a big grin at the thought.
"R-Really? That'd be amazing, I've always loved how their pages felt against my paper tips and all of the stories they hid and... and..." Chidori would then babble about how much she liked books and why, a big goofy smile.
"They only give me story books, most were history." Jack snorted before smiling. "They each have at least ten others at home, I have six with me at the moment. Some are 'grolier' books, the others are by a writer who based his fiction off of mythology." he added in, happily, his voice getting a bit squeaky.
"W-Wow, really? That's awesome!" Chi threw her hands up in the air out of excitement for a moment, a big and goofy smile on her face. "Mythology has always fascinated me, people trying to find explanations for the so to speak, 'unexplained', and all the interesting stories they'd come up with... It's truly remarkable if you think about it... How people once made stories..." Chidori trailed off, setting her head on her hands before her gaze shifted to Jack.
"Not quite only 'stories' though, it more of as a religion. These people believed it, they worshiped them and, in one of the history books, it showed a place called 'Ancient Greece' where they built temples of the gods." Jack added in hastily, his eyes almost borderline sparkling with excitement.
"R-Really? That's crazy! I mean, nowadays, science has disproven that there is any higher power but still... You can't help but think... Maybe there was a higher power once... Maybe we just lost our touch with it..." Chidori trailed off, her eyes reflecting Jack's, yet they held more, the yearning for knowledge.
"True that." Jack commented with a wide grin before sighing. "Also, in one of the books, it said that tree were cut down in order to make space, to make paper, and various other things that caused a bit off a problem with the human race back then.... Ice melted, climate changes happened, and yeah."
"Mhm... I wonder what Earth was like before the Spacial Frontier... I'd give anything to go see it for a day... Well not everything, because, if I gave my life or my friends well... I'd be out of luck, wouldn`t I?" Chi giggled, her eyes looking around the Mess Hall before returning back to their original spot.
"I could make a time machine, but I would need my team, a whole lotta time and a member from the time department." he muttered, thinking about it. He'd been planning to do it for quite a while, but with all of the ongoing projects and lack of time department members who weren't already recruited, it would be hard to do so. "Also, you said you wanted to see the Earth pre-Spacial Frontier? Lucky you, it's in the cover of one of my books."
"Awesome!" Chidori's smile grew in happiness and size, her eyes shimmering with the mere exaltation of this moment. "I wonder... I think there might have been books on well, their "future", which is our present..."
"Basing on how history goes in the books I have, I can guess that in the older times, they were very optimistic but as time went on, at around the twenties, was it? They started getting a bit pessimistic about the future due to the thing I said earlier called "climate change" but this is all my speculation though." Jack muttered, adding the last part almost as if it was an after thought.
"Right... I wonder why we don't have things like books anymore being made... Or even, the stories inside them... It makes me sad really..." Chidori trailed off, looking rather spacy at that very moment as she became lost in thought.
"We don't have books, because they are quite inconvenient, but there are a few old stories you can find online if you just know how to search for them. They're pretty hard to find, 1 in 1000 chance of finding them, but stories like the "classics", which I suppose is Romeo and Juliet, and a few others have survived due to their continuous use. My mother converted her copy of the book to a file before lending it to station 6." he replied, patting her shoulder. "That also means I have it on my personal pad."
She shook her head, then looked at him. "O-Oh, cool! Heh." Chidori smiled once more, her eyes blinking slightly. "Hm... What is your mom like, if you don't mind me asking."
"My mother isn't really my mother. She just took care of me." he smiled
"She's my other group member's actually mother, the woman was really nice. She was apart of station 6 department 8, and as people from department 8 do, look for relics. Old books, ancient items and what not. I was never able to be with her for long though, since I was at Station 2 studying, but I guess it's okay since she's alive and well, moved into station 6 after retirement. We visit her sometimes, and she's still bubbly as heck." Jack commented with a smile that showed he missed her.
"Oh... Well, while we're on the subject... My parents were scientists who often experimented with spiritual connections and how everything was connected with "invisible ties"... Well, one day, they found one... But it killed them somehow... Almost like it was a bomb waiting to be set off... This left me and my brother, Refr, by ourselves... Refr went on to resume our parents' research as a scientist while I worked to become a medic so I could save lives... I also took this job in hops for not only adventure and friendship... But to save lives if at all possible..."
