Erm, so this might be kinda embarrassing, but I wanted to set up a Left 4 Dead roleplay.

I know that it will be complicated (how do you set up maps, zombie hoards, special zombies, weapons, ammo caches, etc), but I think that's the beauty of it. Setting up a map beforehand, with the caches and safe houses marked, as well as anything "special" on the map, like where you will for certain alert a hoard. As for random zombies coming out and special infect, it would just be a matter of dice rolls and checking for attack damage based on rolls.

I don't want to start planning out all this stuff with no one interested, though. I'm very lazy unless someone is interested. I have a zombie world of my own being developed, based lightly around the Left 4 Dead series, but I haven't gotten it all worked out, and it would save me time if I could work with an existing world, as well as give me an idea on how my zombie world would work.

If there is anyone interest, I would like to keep the numbers low, only because more people posting, more work, more chances for everything to go wrong. I'm thinking 3-5 players (including myself), so if I get even two people interested, I will start world building. Maps, character profile example, dice roll work out, etc.
You had me at zombie hoards~

Okay, I've only actually played L4D a couple times, a long time ago, solo... but my mild obsession with both zombies and post-apocalyptic settings aren't letting me ignore the idea. If you end up going for it, I'm definitely interested.
HUGE FAN OF L4D AND L4D2. Sign me up.

If you need help, whether it's questions or advice, pm me and I'll see what I can do.
L4D is so GOOOOOOODDDD Yes yes yes please :D
I'm 100% in!

Sweet. I roped my husband into it as well. I've started to work out a little system in my head and I'll be working on a map soon.

Any idea on a city we'd like to start on? If we use a city, I would be able to use real maps and edit as I please.
well maybe something not too big... Toronto maybe... but I'm Canadian so I'm not too familiar with USA cities. I could give you a list of weapons that are best suited for zombies...
definately interested! zombies+ me= passion! lemme know when we're playing!
TheLily Topic Starter

You're Canadian too!? That's exciting!
Yeah it is pretty amazing isn't Eh? And passion? I don't what to know do I?
TheLily Topic Starter

Okay, this is what I have so far.

I went to google maps, and since I'm Canadian, at first I followed the boarder looking for a good city on the boarder, and I couldn't find one I wanted to use. I didn't want to use a city as big as Toronto, so I went to Alberta to take a look. Calgary and Edmonton were both too large to use as a starting point, I think, so I chose Red Deer which is right between. This is good because we can head north or south to get to either larger city if we want, but bad because I don't know the area myself. I've only been to Edmonton and Calgary and it's been years since I went to either. Oh well, I'll be as blind as you guys.

As for stats, I have a system I think might work.

There are 7 stats and each will determine what you can and cannot do. All stats but Health start at 4, which is slightly below average and can go up to a max of 9. Health starts at 50 and goes up to 100, but more on this in a bit.

Aim: This determines how good a shot you are with any sort of weapon you can aim with, whether it be a gun, bow and arrow or even baseballs and a bat - who knows what you'll find and some people will have better aim than others. This works out for people because it means less wasted ammo.

Brawl: Your ability to go head to head with a zombie or even another person. You know where and when to land punches and kicks, and soft spots on the human body. The higher the score, the better you are at finding weak spots, almost a sixth sense for them.

Composure: Some people handle pressure better than others. You know how to think when the heat is on, and the better your score, the better you handle things - maybe your mind works better when things are going down.

Speed: You know the old saying "I don't need to outrun the bear, I only need to outrun you" - everyone knows it, and well, now the bears are Zombies. The faster you are, the better your chances of getting out of the way of a zombie and leaving your companions behind - but you would never do that, right? Speed is important for quite a few things, including scouting and covering the slower survivors.

Stamina: 1. Physically you can do things a little longer. This might mean actually standing in one place holding a gun for a few hours. This might mean holding yourself against the door while the others take a much needed rest. 2. Mentally you're able to take the long hours. You can sit in a safe room with nothing to do but occupy your own mind. You're going to be stronger willed than some of the others and this is a good trait of a leader.

Strength: The more points the stronger you are. You won't be able to hold up a car, but man can you move big things. Strength is good for holding a heavy door, pushing things in front of a safe room floor, lifting objects off of important items, helping survivors up and maybe, if you're foolish enough - throwing zombies off buildings.

Health: This one is fun - each player has a mac of 100 HP. If you start the game with 100, you've done well and have not been injured in any way. Otherwise, you've been scratched, hit, bloodied, whatever. Things have happened to you. This is the only stat that can change over time. Resting will earn you 1 point for every hour of complete sleep you have - but harder injuries (ie a bite) will take longer to heal, 1 point for every day rested.

You have 10 points to spend in these 7 areas, which means you have have two at full and be below average at others or a mix.

You also have 3 "special" points. These go into areas of expertise. Maybe you're a skilled cook and make a meal out of anything. Maybe you have a special weapon you use, which will give you a bonus to shooting with it. These 3 points can go into any of the three combinations: 3 one point, 1 one-point + 1 two-point or 1 three-point. It's up to you.

As for special infected, there will be two dice rolls with each players post. The rolls will be a D100, 1-50 meaning nothing is summoned beyond the normal zombies milling around. 51-100 will be a zombie. The second dice roll will be determined by the first roll. If the first was rolled under 50, 1-25 means food or water, 26-50 means medical supplies 51-75 means bomb components 76-100 means player choice. This means that you can make an amendment to your post, in bold as to what you find. As for 51-100 on the first roll it will be a little simpler. 1-25 is a Smoker, 26-50 is a Hunter, 51-75 is a Boomer and 76-100 is a horde.

and there will be two numbers that mean a horde, two for a smoker, three for a hunter, and three for a boomer. Tanks and Witches will be pre-placed in the map by my husband so that I don't see them (hopefully).

As for ammo caches, I will be placing those, as well as guns and other weapons. While I'm not going to include special infected from L4D2, I do like the idea of using melee weapons.

Other than that, I need input on weapons and one other thing:

Do we all end up together before the RP starts, or after? We will be starting in a Shopping centre, so we should dicuss that. I don't want it to be day zero, as that causes problems. I know there are a few more things I want to include on the character creation aspect, so this is just a start of my plan... I've been at this for four hours, so I'm gunna take a break from zombie planning.
Sounds great, I'm gonna start making my character now. As for weapons, just tell me and I can give you a good list of weapons, both melee and guns. Not just any weapons, ones you can find in Canada, we can find guns such as Ak-47s, but in Canada, for them to be legal they have to have the semi automatic welded on at all times. of course we can find fully automatic, but the only ones who would have them would be the government and anyone who illegally brought them here. Other weapons illegal in Canada like the sawed-off shotgun can easily be made after the zombies started to eat everyone. Also I just want to say, I'm not a gun nut or anything, I have several hunters for friends, and I did a bit myself, Oh and of course what I seen in games and movies. So not the biggest idea on guns, but big enough I think
TheLily Topic Starter

Oooh, that would be wonderful. The only weapons I know are the ones I've used hunting and other than "rifle" I know nothing about them!
TheLily Topic Starter

Time to do damage and "HP" for the zombies.

Regular infected: There are several ways to go about this. One head-shot with any weapon will do the trick. Three to the chest, unless of course you have buck shot or a might good strength/brawl.
They deal one damage per scratch and two for a bite.

Smoker: When you roll a Smoker, you post a second time, to roll. If you roll 1-75, it grabs you. if you roll 76-100, congradulations, "You have earned the Tongue-Twister achievement!" Otherwise, you can leave the second post to the next person, who can roll in their post for the "Drag and Drop" achievement, which is earned getting 71-100 instead, which is a 5% better chance! It's up to you though.

Hunter: A Hunter has a mighty identifiable screech. When you hear it, you can take aim! Like most of the rules, 1-75 you miss, 76-100 you get an achievement - "Jump Shot!" Woohoo! (Can you see the pattern?) Otherwise, wait for the next person to help you.

Boomer: Roll 1d100, if you roll 1-75, you hit the Boomer before it vomits. After that, we get vomited on and have to start fighting the horde!

Witch: Roll 1D100 with each post until we are clear of her. The Numbers are 1-75 - you sneak past her! 76-100, opps, you startled the witch! Post again, if you get 1-75 you can unload into her until someone helps. 76-100 "You earned the Cr0wned achievement!"

Tank: Depending on the number of people playing, we can roll for damage. We'll put the max HP at 500, I think, and everyone can roll 2D100, meaning that will take a few rolls to get the tank down, but on a good day it will only take three rolls. Let me know if you think this one is too much.

As for damage, that will be doled out by the ST, which will be done by my husband, at this point. He's being well instructed and I think he can play this fairly. If not, I'll throw things at him from across the room.

I think this is the last post I need to put, since I've pretty well made a good, basic system (in my mind anyhow!)

All survivors involved are assumed to be immune or carriers. The ST will determine if any PC's are carriers and how this might affect the game later on.

Safe-houses are pretty well one way. Once we use one, there is no one coming into the front of it. This might cause problems later on. Who knows who might be trying to use this safe house in an hour? A day?

Please put your health numbers in a Collapse tag, so that they can be accessed if needed and anything special you might feel is necessary like perhaps your list of supplies or any ST questions.

I think this is all, so on Monday or Tuesday I will be starting things up and getting the ball rolling. Hopefully this isn't too rules intensive, but please understand that it's kinda hard to free form this.

rolled 2d100 and got 37

*facepalm* Soo... I just tried out the dice roller for the first time. Every time we use the dice roller we will have to do the second roll on the second post. *groans*

Oh well, I forgot something else too. Not everyone has to roll for special events, just every third person. So Person A and B don't have to roll, but person C would have to. Or Person A could roll, and then person B, but C doesn't want to, nor does D, but E has to.

does this make sense? I'm really, really tired and it's past my bed time by two hours, but I couldn't sleep, since I hate leaving things half finished.
Could you throw things at him anyways? Sounds pretty fun

and I'll have my guy ready tomorrow
sounds good to me... im just not all to familiar with how to use everything on here, i just made a profile a few days ago, but if i have any questions ill make sure and ask you smarter peoples. and ill get to work on my character right away =)

Excellent. :) Now I suppose I have to figure just a few more things out.

Do we all know each other for the start of the adventure? I have a good idea of us coming together, maybe one or two together... But let me know what y'all think.
