Guys! GUYS!!

I'm so SUPER excited to be able to tell you I'm finally moving. I've been living in a less than ideal housing situation for years, and my mental health problems made it really difficult to get out. With lots of hard work over the past year and a half, I've managed to get everything sorted out and I'm getting the heck out of here.

I found a new apartment and I'm getting the keys next week. The thing is that most houses and apartments in the Netherlands come 'gutted' - meaning no floors, no appliances and no furniture unless the previous tenant sells or gives you these things when they move out. My apartment has no flooring, which I'm obligated by contract to have when I move in. I have until March 15th to get everything sent over, but that leaves me with only 3 weeks time to buy the floor, get it laid out and move all my furniture in. And I'm still about €150 short.

I'm doing my best to put in extra hours to close this gap, but my internet connection is unreliable here, and as a freelancer I can't do my job well with a choppy connection. I might make it on my own. I might not. I really want to do this by myself but there's a good chance that's not quite possible. After much debating, I decided to set up a GoFundMe campaign. A few small donations might just be enough to bridge this financial gap combined with my work efforts!

If you don't want to donate without getting something in return, I'm also knitting hats and selling some premades here:

If you want to donate but can't, then please send me some positive thoughts and internet hugs! :) I'M GOING TO DO THIS! I'M MOVING, I'M MAKING A NEW START, I WILL BE HAPPY AND FEEL AWESOME AGAIN!

I'm not even sure if you remember me from meeting you briefly in the Just Talkin chat, but I do admire your work and kind of relate to your (previous) situation of poor housing. Do you think the locals around your new place may want some of your work? Ever tried to put up a small billboard on the street? Maybe you could milk some extra cash to help you with your money, must be quite cold there, I'm sure someone would love to have a custom knit-hat, haha.
Anyway, I hope it suffices, but I can only wish you the best of luck in equipping your new home. :D

Hey Fallen, I do remember you! :D

I've been advertising my knitting locally where allowed. Billboards on the street are very illegal without a permit so I can't do that. It IS very cold but most people have all their hats and mittens in order by now, the winter has been very warm this year without much need for knitwear. :( I had someone interested in socks, so there's hoping!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. :D
I wish I could help you out with this, but I'm not sure I get any money next month, due to me being sick for a month :( But if I do, and you still need funding by 1st of March, I might help you out <3

But congrats on the new place!

I'm afraid that Bex and I are pretty strapped for cash too, but it's excellent news about the move.

Of all the people I've met here, you are among the most tenacious and resourceful. You've earned this step in your life, and it will surely lead to more good things in the future. Congratulations!

@Pen: Thanks, I'm excited!! :D It's likely I'm still going to need money for all the small things that I'll need, but they're not so pressing as the floor. :) I'll definitely let you know!

@Bloop: Oh gosh thank you! I totally understand, loving the good vibes all the same! :D

Sorry Sanne, with my tenuous employment situation I can't financially help you right now. But I'm so confused. You don't get a floor?? Do you just get a concrete slab?

That's alright!

And yes. This is not a picture of my apartment, but this is typically what you're left with when you rent a new place: https://resources.directwonen.nl/image/981d0202-3ec9-4c18-8aac-3a9802d0399e

It's just a bare concrete floor without anything on it, and you're obligated by contract to put a decent flooring in yourself when you sign a lease from a housing corporation. Sometimes the previous tenant who's leaving can offer you their floor (like when they're moving in with someone else who already has flooring and don't need it), but in my case the previous tenant took all of it out.

This is very common in the Netherlands. Appliances are also usually not provided, like a fridge/freezer, a washer etc. I happen to live in an apartment that had everything in it when I moved in, but I don't own it, so I have to leave everything behind except for the furniture I own.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!! I signed the lease today! AND I GOT THE KEYS. THE PLACE IS MINE NOW!

I have pictures and a video to share! You can find them all in my dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5b7u8k49ksdc0xu/AADQKwo3Zt27XWm5F54RmYRla?dl=0

You can definitely see why a flooring has such a high priority. I'm leaving the fundraiser open because there are lots of small things I'm going to still need, like lamps and curtain rails. I'll be doing my best to cover it all with some work but donations would definitely help with stress relief in that area!
If I could like a topic a thousand times, this would be the topic that I would do that on. I'm super happy for you, Sanne! Congratulations on everything, and here's to the new home!
