He sat alone in the bar, hunched over his drink. For others, life was good; for this man, life could be better. His wife left him, his house was forclosed, and now he was developing extreme alcoholism. No one said a word to the man or paid him any mind, everyone else was celebrating something, reveling in the good times. But this man is completely unimportant.
Just across the room, Revil was celebrating another big score. With money in his and a bunch of other guys' pockets they all went to buy drinks. Another job done, healthy men and women now with drugs in their hands and less money in their wallets. Even less then they knew, since Johnson went and pickpocketted them later. All was going well until another man approached Revil, speaking of a new job, a poaching job. With plenty of money involved Revil whole hearted accepted, not really listening to all the details.
(Hope the title change is fine with you)

The job described by the man was of a rather foul nature for Revil had been asked to hunt down and slay a unicorn. For several decades now the last few herds had been protected by by the virgin priestess of the Dawn Order. As a result the location of these herds was a closely guarded secret that not even kings knew. As a result, their horns which had always been worth a fortune could now command a price greater then a king's ransom since no new ones had been acquired in decades.
However there had been rumored sightings of a lone unicorn lately, a black winged one which were extremely strange since unicorns were always white...weren't they? Regardless this man was offering a princely sum for the head of this unicorn. He only wanted the horn, but the horn could easily be faked, but one would be hard pressed to fake the whole head. The man would then give Revil a talisman that he was to use only when he had completed the job.
~~~Meanwhile~~~
Impuria was silently grazing in a moonlit forest clearing ten miles from the inn. A herd of deer and more then a dozen rabbits were feed with her, yet despite all this company, the unicorn was painfully lonely. Unicorns were herd creatures, but Impuria had no herd to call her own as she had been rejected at birth from hers and her own mother ultimately abandoned her only a few years after that. All because of the dark magic within her, something that she had had no choice about. After all, no one can ever choose the circumstances of their own birth. So there was nothing she could do but bear this cross and the pain of loneliness that it inevitably brought.
Yet despite this burden of dark magic, she was as gentle as any normal "pure" unicorn something which the all the other animals around her were able to recognize. Yet no matter how well meaning they were, they were not kin as they were not unicorns. The black unicorn didn't foolishly begrudge them this, but even so this didn't change the desires of one's heart.
She would stop her grazing to look at the full moon. The moon, the celestial body that she felt far greater kinship with then the sun. The moon, just like her was the only one of it's kind in the night sky, yet it at least had the company of the stars. If the moon could have the stars, could she at least have the company of one sentient being? A star of her very own in her dark sky?
(Ah, so that's how you wanna play. Gonna have to step up my game)
He walked down the road away from the inn. Revil now had a new mission to carry out and he'd be damned if he contemplated the prospect of failure. Back at the inn the man told of a being not before heard of by him, a unicorn black in color. A new challenge had been presented his way in the form of a job description. He had talked it over with he others and decided to go at it alone for the time being and call back in if the time needed. No point in wasting useful man power.
In the night sky Revil inspected the weird little talisman, quite curious as to its use and the instructions on using it. He was unsure of what it could do, maybe trasmit some kind of signal, telepathic connections, transport the head of the unicorn after the deed is done. Whatever the function Revil currently had no need for it, and so into the his pocket he stuck it. He was headed back to a friends house who lived in town, someone with a certain tool he needed.
(I'll post tomorrow, my grandma went to the hospital today and I am just not in the mood right now.)
(Of course, take your time. Hope she feels better soon)
(Ok she's feeling better, but quick question, did you expect me to post as the friend and if so, is this person supposed to gave him a specific item?)
(honestly I expected you to just post as impuria but you can post as the friend if you really want. If not I got it)
(Well is he still in town, I kind of thought he was. If he's not, I can post as Impuria, but if he is, I can't.)
(He is still in town, Revil's on his way to the guy's house now.)
(Then I have no real reason to post as Impuria as there is nothing for her to react to as she would never willingly enter a town, so I'll post as the friend. So that being said, were you planning to have this item Revil is picking up to be something specific?)
(Yes, but as it so happens the friend has no idea that it is there or that he's going to pick it up.)
(Honestly, want to just skip to Revil entering the forest?)
(Mmmmmmmm... Sure. It'll help the story along anyway.)
(Would you like to have him post entering the forest then?)
(Yep, might as well)
The forest was dark, this time of night. Then again, it was dark at all times of night. He fumbled over roots at time, still a little buzzed from earlier that night, but walked with an air of determi ation all the same. Now he had another mission to fulfill, along with a little something extra in his pocket,
He soon came to a small, dimly lit clearing after about an hour's walk. This was the place he was supposed to go, the place he was told to look for, and he could see why. The entirety of the clearing was somehow enchanting. He could see something, too, something in the middle of the clearing. He just couldn't make it out, though.
As Revil entered the forest, he would notice that this forest seemed far healthier then any other he had been in before. There was a huge abundance of plant life and even the air itself seemed purer as well. He would also see bountiful game, but the game seemed almost smarter and more fleet of foot then normal.
By the time he finally made it to the clearing that Impuria was in, she had already returned to grazing on grass like most of the animals around her. Unlike most of those animals however, she didn't instantly flee when the hunter came into sight. Instead she would stop eating and come into view, looking at him with gentle inquisitive eyes. The sight of her was absolutely breathtaking, the black unicorn was far more lovely and graceful then any mortal horse could ever hope to be. Her hide was almost entirely a glossy ebony save for an indigo eight pointed star from which her obsidian like horn grew from as well as an indigo sheen that rippled along her mane and tail as she moved. Yet it was her violet eyes that remain her most striking feature; they were not the eyes of a simple beast for there was an intelligence in them that was as clear as day, but they also seemed sad and lonely.
"Have you come for me young hunter? Has your race decided that they will not be satisfied until my kind exists only in stories and paintings?" Her voice was as attractive as she was, but also so very sad, but Revil would also get the impression that her sorrow had nothing to do with him.
He smiled and looked down for a second before returning his gaze to Impuria with a slightly lowered smile. "Young? Oh my appearance may say young but my experience says quite otherwise." Slowly he walked towards the unicorn, step by step saying but a few more words. "As for my 'race', their motive is not my business I merely carry out their wishes. Survival of the fitest, you see? You're sweet little act won't do much to turn me away from mission."
He was a mere 10 feet from her now, still making no move to draw any sort of weapon. Falling silent at this was all he could do, now. Revil waited for this beast to make the first move while he studied her stunning features, hands clasped behind his back. He seemed to shine in the moonlight almost in a menacing fashion. He walked in circles around her, studying every last inch with no intention of letting this one get away.
Impuria would shake her head at the mention of his experience and would reply. "No matter your experience, you are still young to me. You could be old and grey, but even then, you would still be young to me. As for your survival of the fittest, that is just an excuse that man uses to justify their slaughter for no other creature kills as man does.I would not be surprised if one day mankind kills their way into extinction. I have no intention of fighting you, but nor do I have any intention of being your prey."
Suddenly she bolted into a full gallop, moving five times faster then any horse that Revil had ever seen. In an instant, she was gone, swallowed up into the forest shadows. Trying to catch her now would be a fool's errand for she knew this forest like Revil knew the back of his hand and she had the endurance to keep up the pace for quite some time. It seemed that Revil had lost the first round.
(For reference, the Guinness world record for fastest speed by a race horse was 43.97 MPH. For simplicity's sake, I rounded that up to 44mp so Impuria is galloping away at 220 MPH. That's 322 feet per second btw. Since he didn't even have his weapon drawn, I think it's safe to say that he's going to have to come back another day.)
(Wow, now THAT'S a race horse. But Revil doesn't plan on just leaving.)
He stood breathless, no words could describe what he had just seen. "This... may be harder than I expected. No matter." There was something on the ground, though, that he bent down to pick up. A single hair, navy blue in color. Just the thing Revil needed and was, therefor, stuck straight into a pocket. Taking more steps towards the edge of the clearing in the direction that Impuria ran off in, Revil breaks through the tree at a calm paced walk. He knew she could run as fast as her heart desired, but the only way she's gonna hide is if she really left the forest entirely. But why would she expose herself to the rest of the world?
He decided to do this part alone, now. No artificial aid. A challenge could make this kill just a little more fun, at least until he was actually in need of that single hair. The forest was dark and almost haunting, yet still had a certain aura of enchantment. The walk was so far pleasant, with the sound of small feet pattering away in the common fear exerted by creatures of this nature, and there seemed to be no sign of struggle against him just yet. Thankfully this find shouldn't be all that hard, considering the fact that Revil never actually looked at the back if his hand.
(I'm a bit concerned by that last line. I was merely using the phrase of knowing it like the back one one's hand since it was the first thing I thought of and since Impuria doesn't have hands, I used Revil to give it a personal touch. I suppose I could have used a different phrase, but the meaning should have been clear.)
