So I might as well do it too!
I'm Chromakin, at least on this site (I'm also known as Paash on other sites). Though my icon depicts a female character, I'm actually male. I'm not very used to forum RP since I've been RPing almost exclusively in chatrooms ever since I started almost two years ago, but it can't be that different... right? o3o
I'm never the one asking for an RP first, so I'm asking you guys who might be interested to ask me. XP

It can be pretty different, but not in a bad way. I used to roleplay in chat rooms, but don't anymore because there's not enough room/time to type out as much as I'd like. *is a wordy little rper*
Also, just looked at your profile, and chromakinesis is pretty cool. My kinetic power of choice is crystalokinesis. One guess what that means.
What sort of roleplays do you normally do?

It depends on the forum. Some people RP quickly on forums with short to medium posts the same way they would in a chat room, and scenes progress rapidly. Others use forums to write long, slow scenes. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I've done and enjoyed both styles, but they require slightly different mindsets for sure.

Making crystals?
Chromakinesis is utterly useless for direct attack or defense, though, but it's awesome for stealth and stealth-breaking!
Which makes me think, I should make a character with that power. *haven't yet*
As for what kind of roleplays I do... it varies. In nearly two years, I haven't had a lot of opportunities to determine exactly what I want to find in a roleplay because I was a medium-long poster in a number of short-post rooms (and I would rather have been playing with people around my level; I learned too fast)... I'm guessing I'm more of a "conventional" player, though; all I want is a good plot, realistic enough interaction, and a little bit of OOC communication to make it all fit.
Making and manipulating crystals. Sometimes includes minerals/gems as well. I found it on this epic list of epicness. I grew very bored with the stock powers you see in most roleplays- supper strength, flight, dematerialization, telepathy, primary elemental manipulation, so on and so forth.
And chromakinesis is not on said list, which makes you more epic than it. ^^
Even on AIM, I tend to post a medium to good-sized paragraph when I'm really into the roleplay, so chatrooms make me sadface a bit.
I'm pretty much the same way, except I won't do a roleplay where romance is the main focus. And I love getting to know my roleplaying partners. ^^

Hee hee... I saw "Gender shifting" in that list and couldn't help but giggle.
But yeah, chromakinesis could be a mix between camouflage and molecular manipulation, since it basically changes the way a given target absorbs and reflects light.
Chatroom RP's make me exasperatedface more than sadface; some people seem oblivious to the fact that their lack of grammar and/or plot skills can be HAZARDOUS to read!
I'd think romance should be used more as an advanced tool for both character development and plot advancement myself, which would make it something extremely hard to place in a decent-leveled roleplay. People playing it out as a main theme make me think they're underestimating and misusing the complexity and potential of such a tool...

That, or they're preteen/young teen girls who are just starting to notice that boys aren't icky and want to live out their perfect romance through their characters. That's the kind of people you get on Gaia and other avatar forums, for the most part. ;-;
I'd much prefer political intrigue to twu wuv, personally. ^^

Twu wuv can be really fun between characters involved in political intrigue. Or really any time there's a snag or an edge to it.
Yeah, but straight-up twu wuv gets on my nerves. Romance, to me, is an interesting subplot. It shouldn't be the main plot.
But that's just me.

To be quite honest, I agree. I'd rather take part in a battle where my character has a chance to die or be seriously maimed than to have one of my characters sit there and spout out how he loooves whatever-her-name-happens-to-be. Seriously. I'd rather spread blood than cheese, you know?
Exactly. I can barely stand to read books that are primarily love stories. Not even when he's crossed universes and timelines to be with her, if all he thinks about is how pretty she is.
Also- go Team Threadjackers! *poses heroically*

Yep, you guys totally lost me. ._.
Might as well continue in a similar pattern!
I'm not really much into politics, but iunno, that might just be for our good ol' real world; maybe the politics of a fantasy world would be interesting to figure out.
Love stories, I'd think the characters would need to remain relatively rational about it or actually be AFFLICTED by it; if they love each other too much without realizing that they're being reckless about it, it afflicts both and they (possibly eventually) die because they couldn't care about the rest.
But yeah, that's why adventure is gonna be the most commonly sought-after type of roleplay (including by myself, albeit not required); it can feature ANYTHING as an additional theme! What people don't really seem to get, though, is that adventure kinda needs a plot in order to not risk (as much) ending up as two characters just exchanging info about each other while moving from one place to the other...

I'm a master of the unintentional threadjack.
I really don't mind most roleplay types, so long as they have a good plot. I'm a very plot-driven person. I'd rather have plot-driven characters than a character-driven plot, for all the sense that makes. Give me point A and point B and let me meander my way between them. ^^

Be careful where you t(h)read, Jack!
Yeah, that makes sense as far as I'm concerned. Then again, plots have to bend to the characters involved in them, but I'm guessing that's part of the plot-making. However, there are also certain plots that stem well from the fact one or more characters has or have a goal, and the roleplay centers around fulfilling that goal (making them never reach their goal is a good way to get a long-term thing going). It might be able to delay the plot enough for the players to formulate something better.

That, I don't mind. Plots like 'this is a magical school that everyone attends, characters interact', though- that gets boring fast. I need a plot that exists outside the characters, with an understood endpoint.

But that's not a plot at all. That's an environment. Which is probably why it feels like a bad plot to you.
I used to roleplay a lot on Gaia, and pretty much 90% of the roleplays there were like that- a setting, a bunch of Mary Sue characters, and absolutely no plot. I eventually stopped roleplaying there because I was tired of spending weeks working on a plot for a roleplay only to see it passed over for the dozens of school roleplay clone threads. Or being ruined by people who thought the rules just didn't apply to them. >.<
Wow, I think we should start a new thread altogether, call it "Your Thoughts on Plots" or something... (the rhyme adds a factor)
Yeah, so we can stop derailing your intro thread with our talking. ^^
