I just want to say that the flexibility of this incredible feature is something I've never so much as conceived of before. The idea that any forum thread can be turned into a real-time chat interface is perfectly inspired, and I think I'll be making excessive use of it in the future. More than something I miss on other forums, I didn't even know what I was missing out on!
I know right?! It's a feature that I use frequently because it's so terribly convenient, especially when you're in an active RP. I also use it for intro topics so I can see if relevant replies were made before I post.
It even works on PMs; this is so great. And to think having a global group of roleplay chat rooms made the most sense to me if I wanted to do a chat RP on-site; how naïve of me!
Do you mean introductory threads, where new members tend to post first? Why those in particular, I'm curious?

I am so so so happy to hear you like it so much!
And I am so so so happy you've got such a great feature. I wonder what else I'm in for as I make my way deeper.

Yes, those are what I mean! I'm really interested in making members feel heard in the intro topics. It feels impersonal and almost rude to copy and paste the same generic "can be used in all circumstances" message over and over, so I try to respond to the content the OP provided. If they're talking about their pets, I want to make sure my response acknowledges and potentionaly discusses their pets as well. That also means I want to make sure I don't miss any new posts with new information should they post while I'm writing my response.
Because the chat feature live updates, I will see the newest posts and can adjust the post I'm writing accordingly.
There's also the fact that the forum-based reply page limits the number of recent posts you can see. If I open the chat window I'm free to scroll through every page while keeping the chat window visible on the right side, so I can write while I read replies!
Oh, I see! That's a good tip, and I think I'll make use of that trick if you don't mind.
