Caleb sat, cooped up in his small apartment. The floor was littered with empty cup ramen, papers that were sprawled out on the ground, and crumpled up pieces of paper.

How much longer was he going to have to do this? He had no clue on how to turn back into human. He's been researching for years on end, was there really no way to escape this life?

Running from demons who either have the intent to kill him, or drag him to hell; that's where he will be turned into a full demon. Not to mention his endless searching through only God knows where for ANY information on this. Though most of it seemed fake. So after feeling fed up from all of this, Caleb stayed in his room for the whole week.

He was only giving himself a week to grieve and sulk, then he would have to get back out there to figure out what he was going to do.

It had been a week since Caleb had disappeared from school, and Naomi was getting a bit too worried about it. The rumors that were conjured up to explain his sudden disappearance did nothing to subside her fears. Most of the rumors claimed that he had gotten arrested, others claimed that he ran away from his parents. She had known him since the beginning of middle school, and even though he probably didn't know who she was, she knew who he was. She was always the type who never spoke but knew almost everything about everyone from observations.

She sighed as walked home, the sun hanging low in the sky. What could have happened to him? She knew that he was the type to never get into trouble. Perhaps her worry was mostly because he reminded her slightly of Damien. She felt a bitter pang in her stomach at that thought. She looked ahead to her apartment complex and then clenched her jaw. There was no harm in seeing how he was doing, right? His apartment was close to hers, after all. Maybe she could just say that the principal or their homeroom teacher had sent her to check up on him. She went up to his door and stared at it for a long time. She hesitated, before quickly knocking on the door.

Caleb heard a quick knock at his door, which caused his head to snap up and watch it for a moment. He knew that the person there was a human, not a demon. He even considered not opening it, but that would just make things worse. So Caleb glanced around his apartment, taking note of how trashed and disgusting it was. He even noticed a few large holes in the wall, since he did have a fight in his room just a few days ago.

Caleb decided to ignore how his apartment looked from the time being and he ran a hand through his messy back hair. He looked through the peep hole and was honestly not surprised who was there.

Naomi.

She was one of his best friends since high school, and he's known her for a good couple of years. She was pretty much the reason he never really moved from this area, which was a bit bad because now he could be pin pointed easily. The demons who were trying to get him knew that he was in this town with little intention of leaving.

So Caleb slowly opened the door, he winced at the sunlight for a moment (even though it was a sunset, it still slightly hurt his eyes. He made sure that his door was only wide enough to show his body, and not his jacked up apartment. He gave her a bit of an awkward smile as he looked down at the female. "Hey Naomi, what Uh.. What brings you here?" He attempted to ask even though he knew full well of why she was here. He didn't go to school all week after all.

Naomi gasped slightly when the door opened, her amethyst-colored eyes widening almost instantly when she saw Caleb. A part of her was grateful that he was still alive and hadn't ran away from home or gotten arrested. He have a tousled appearance though, and looked like he was immensely tired. She took a tiny step back and nervously bit her bottom lip as he looked down at her. She noticed how he winced when the tiniest amount of sun hit his face, and she could only imagine how long it had been since he had stepped outside.

She timidly looked down for a bit, trying to conjure up the right amount of words that wouldn't embarrass her like they usually did. "I, um...the principal's worried about you." she said quietly. She wasn't used to lying, but she hoped that Caleb would probably think that the shakiness of her voice is from her shyness. "He told me to check up on you." A flash of concern instantly went over her face and she looked up at him. "Are, uh...are you okay, Caleb?"

Caleb watched the timid girl speak and he looked around for a moment before running his hand through his hair. "Me? I'm fine. Thanks for coming though." Of course the principle would ask for someone to check up on him. Though he didn't exactly come up with an excuse yet. "I've just been... Preoccupied with some things... Though if that the only reason you came by?"

Of course he had to keep things rushed. It was getting dark, and if it got too dark, he probably wouldn't let her go home. Especially since the demons knew that he lived here. He was now worried about her walking home. He wondered what he would do now... He would probably end up walking her home. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if she got hurt.

Naomi tilted her head to the side curiously, her lips pressing into a thin line. It was obvious that there was something more going on that him being just 'preoccupied with some things'. It worried her unnecessarily. Maybe it was the fact that she was a half-angel and she usually sought for the good of others. Throughout life, she had put other people's well being in front of her own. This was another one of those situations. She took a small step closer, standing on the tips of her toes so that she could maybe see past him into his apartment. All she saw was mostly darkness, and that seemed to worry her even more.

"We've known each other for almost eight years." she said softly. "I can tell that something's wrong, Caleb. Something bad." It was her choice to try and help him, but it was all on him if he actually wanted the help. "If you need any help...just, um, call me. Whatever you're going through - it's probably hard to do it alone." She sighed softly and looked to the side. She was just glad that he was alright and he looked healthy enough. "Good night." she said with a small smile, before turning around to exit.

Caleb watched her and heard what she had to say. Though when she tried to get a peek into his apartment, he was quick to block her view. Even if it was already dark inside, he didn't want her to see something she wasn't supposed to. He watched her for a moment and nodded. "Yeah, you're right. I'll call you though, when I'm ready to talk about it..." That was a lie. It was really just to get her out of here quicker. As he watched her walk out, he stepped out a bit.

"You know, I can walk you home." He was too worried about her to let her walk off alone. As she said, they've been friends for almost eight years. He's known her for a long time, and he's attached to her so easily as well. He was a weak kid, even after he became a demon. She was pretty much the only real friend he had. Though movement on the street caught his attention. Demon. There was just one this time, thankfully, but he was awfully close to his house...

"You know what? I'm ready to talk about this now." Caleb quickly got behind the female and gently guided her into his home. He closed and secured his door as he brought her in and turned on the light. He looked around his mess of an apartment and he crossed his arms. "Yeah, see? Here, I'm just... I'm just a mess." He had to think of a way to get her out of here safely, he was just buying time now.

Disappointment was evident in her features and she reluctantly hung her head low. After all the years they had known each other, she had thought that he had somewhat of a trust towards her. But then again, did she trust him? She wasn't sure on that part. She wasn't even sure if he would call her like he had said. She was about to bid farewell once again before he offered to walk her home. She blinked and stared at him in shock, before finally finding her words. "No, uh, it's fine. My place is just the next apartment complex over." she stammered. He had never walked her home before, and the uneasiness in his voice made her feel slightly uncomfortable.

Then, before she could even respond, she was inside his apartment. The door closed behind her and the lights switched on, making her wince at the sudden change of atmosphere. Something was definitely going on, something that seemed far more dangerous than she had thought. Her eyes widened as her blurry vision cleared and she stared down at the wide range of messy papers that scattered the floor. "No kidding." she muttered a bit sarcastically, kneeling down to pick up one of the crumpled papers. She quietly opened it up and tried to smooth it out on her lap. "What's going on, Caleb?"

Caleb hesitated slightly at her questions. He had to give it to her for being as sharp as ever. He thought about any way to answer her question before seeing that she had gotten one of the papers. He let out an awkward laugh as he quickly took it and crumpled it back up. He tossed it away into the small trashcan that he had and he began to quickly do his spring cleaning. He tossed any papers he had onto the bed in a neat pile before tossing out crumpled paper and empty cup ramen.

"Eh. I'm not sure how to word my situation right now, so I won't try to." He told her before a harsh knock came to the door. "Dammit..." He muttered before looking back at her. He quickly grabbed his bag and picked her up before putting her inside of his bathroom at the back of his apartment. "Here Naomi, I'm gonna need you to trust me on this okay? Don't come out of the bathroom, and watch this closely. It has important stuff in it." He explained before putting the bag in her arms. "And I'm serious about this, don't come out of here." He told her before he shut the door. "Make sure to lock it." He told her once the door was closed.

He then made his way to the door and opened it with ease. Of course, the man at his door looked to be in his mid thirties, and even looked pretty human. Though this one, Caleb could see right through his disguise. "You don't have to pretend to be that when you're here, I don't even know why you all insist on trying..." He muttered as the demon gave him a smirk.

"Aren't you going to invite me in boy?" The demon asked as Caleb let out a low chuckle.

"No way in hell."

And thus, their fought began on the elders side. He punched Caleb right in the cheek, which sent him flying and slamming him into the back wall. Though Caleb shook off the blow.

"That was a cheap shot old man. Though can you calm down a bit? I'm going to be wringed alive if I get any more holes in my wall." Caleb joked as he went into his full demon mode.

That's when the real fight began.

Even though he had let her inside her home, he wasn't ready to explain what was going on. Before she could look at the piece of paper, he had taken it away from her and rumpled it back up. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and the nervous air in the atmosphere seemed to get thicker. She suddenly noticed the presence of a strong, dark energy that was nearing them. Being a half-angel, she could notice dark energies - but just barely, only if it was strong enough. She felt goosebumps appear on the surface of her skin and she turned to him. She knew that the dark energy wasn't him. She couldn't explain to him how something dangerous was nearing them, otherwise she just might sound crazy. "U-Uh, okay." she said quietly. She stiffened when she heard the knock on the door.

Her heart thudded loudly in her chest. She was far too busy just staring at the door, trying to decipher what exactly was behind it to notice him take his bag and pick her up. "Caleb!" she said in protest, her voice laced with worry. Her eyes were wide and her body visibly trembled as she was placed inside the bathroom. Her jaw dropped and she held the bag close to her chest, but she was horribly worried about him. The door closed before she could even utter a word. Her grip around the bag tightened. She remained quiet but didn't make a move to lock the door. Not yet, not until she found out what exactly he was dealing with.

When the door opened, her head started hurting painfully. The dark energy was almost overwhelming, and her chest heaved at the pain. It was a demon who was out there, who was fighting Caleb. She flinched and shuddered with every thud she heard. She couldn't move. She was unable to even stand up and lock the door because of her fear. All she could do was curl herself in the corner and hope that Caleb was doing alright.

Caleb and the demon were head against head. Of course Caleb wasn't stronger then the demon. In fact, he understood why this one was alone. Because the others felt as though he could do this alone. The fight didn't go on for much longer before Caleb was punched through the bathroom door. The broken pieces of door were scattered across the floor, and a nice large piece was actually lodged deep in his shoulder.

"Damn damn damn damn..." Caleb repeated the curse as he grabbed Naomi and held her close to him.

"Oh, so you were hiding a little friend here." Th demon explained with a smirk and Caleb began to panic. Dammit. DAMMIT! He quickly tackled into the demon, using his bad shoulder mind you. Which hurt like hell, but it was what he needed to get Naomi out of her. He continued to hold her close as he jumped out of the apartment window. Of course he landed safely and he began to run.

"You're not going to get far you little mouse!" The demon yelled as he was quick to chase after them. Caleb was keeping him at a distance though as he was panting softly. He was getting weak after all of this.

"Hold on tight." Caleb muttered as he began to run into different alley ways as a way to get rid of him.

Naomi screamed as Caleb burst in through the door, her hands covering her mouth in horror. He looked like he was in so much pain, while the other demon didn't. She had known that this was an unfair fight to begin with. She instinctively curled closer to him when the demon loomed in front of them. She shut her eyes, waiting for the horrible death. She had only wished that instead of doing nothing, she had done something to help her friend out. It was like Damien all over again. Her eyes opened when she hard Caleb's voice and then they were both falling. Her grip on him never loosened, especially since they were now on the run from a powerful demon and Caleb was badly injured.

As they ran through the dark alleyways, she knew that they couldn't keep this up. It seemed that they were barely getting farther from the demon. She was also worried that he was getting weaker and weaker. She swallowed nervously and looked to him. Now was her chance to actually do something helpful for once. She quickly got out of his grip and pulled him to a corner. "You can't go on like this." she said to him, before leaning in and softly chanting a magic spell under her breath. If it worked, he would be hypnotized and fall asleep, with no recollection of her commanding the magic spell until he woke up. Just as she heard the shuffling footsteps of the demon nearing her, wings spread out from her shoulders and she help his limp body close, slowly but surely flying away from the demon.

Caleb couldn't help but to widen his eyes in surprise when she came out of his arms and pulled him into a corner. "I can Naomi! You just have to trust me, I'll keep you safe." He promised, though he wasn't sure how accurate that promise was. He would make sure she wouldn't die... Though that was all he could guarantee right now. Almost a moment later, he heard her say a chant. He gave her a questionable look before he felt his eyelids get heavy. What did she do to him?... Slowly, he felt his body become more sluggish before he was fully out.

The demon soon approached the two and he couldn't help but to widen his eyes at the sight. An angle! No, she wasn't one, but she was enough of one to get Caleb away. He stopped dead in his tracks and watched the girl fly away with what was rightfully theirs. He narrowed his eyes at her for a moment before smirking and going back into the shadows, where people like him belonged.

Of course while Caleb was asleep, he was haunted with dreams about his past. It was almost like reliving the event that happened when he was so young...

As they flew low enough for barely anyone to see them, it was then Naomi realized that she was now involved in some deep, demon-related trouble. If the higher, heavenly angels heard about this, she would be dead in an instant. There was no doubt that the demon from before had seen them disappear. She could only hope that things get better from now on - they couldn't be out in the open anymore. His home was gone, and so was hers. They had nowhere to go, really.

She flew as far as she could until she felt her energy starting to decrease. She landed with Caleb, before entering a nearby cheap motel. The lady at the counter didn't seem to care of their condition and just handed her a room key. Naomi opened the door that lead to their room and quickly laid him down on the bed. She exhaled a tired sigh and looked down at his wound. She had no idea of how to treat medical things like this, but she could try. She took a first-aid kit and tried to patch up the wound, even though it was poorly done. She chanted another spell of memory loss from the instant she had hypnotized him before, just to make sure that he had no idea she was able to do this. He would probably wake up in half an hour, but she was awfully tired from flying for so long. Having him find out about her would be another danger. She carefully tucked him in the bed and then went to the couch. In an instant she had fallen asleep.

Caleb was out for awhile and when he woke up, he wouldn't remember what happened. He soon came back to it and ran a hand through his dark locks. What happened?...He remembered Naomi visiting his home... the demon coming... Caleb ran off with her in his arms... then everything else was a blur. He let out a soft sigh as he rubbed his eyes and sat up. He noticed the female was asleep on the couch and he watched her for a moment before sitting up. This was a motel, where did they go? What the HELL happened around here? And why couldn't he remember?!

If Caleb was with anyone else, he probably would have woken them up and demanded answers. Though Naomi... he couldn't do that to her. So he just waited for her to wake up. That was the least he could do with her. He looked at his shoulder as he let out a dry chuckle. So she fixed up his arm? Or... she attempted to. Either way he appreciated it. So he just relaxed in the bed until she woke up herself, then they could attempt to... talk?.... about everything that happened. He couldn't exactly cover it up with lies anymore.

When the sun began to set, Naomi's eyes slowly opened. Her body ached from the amount of flying she had to do and she had a horrible headache. But she knew that around this time Caleb should be awake. As much as she would like to, she couldn't lay down and sleep forever. She pressed a hand to her head and sat up with a small groan. She already felt nauseous and she hadn't even got on her two feet yet. She could only imagine how crappy she would feel throughout the whole day. She rubbed the drowsiness from her eyes and turned her head, eyes widening at seeing Caleb already awake.

"Oh, uh...hi." she greeted nervously, chewing on her bottom lip. She couldn't help but feel anxious - she was going to lie to him. But sometimes the truth was better left unsaid. "You, uh...that demon, he...hit you on your head with an attack." she said. "You got knocked out. He got away and, um...I hailed a cab and brought us here." She hoped that sounded somewhat believable. She got up and sat next to him, looking over him anxiously. "How are you feeling? Do you remember anything?"

Caleb heard her story, and instantly narrowed his eyes at her. Of course her story raised questions, which made him stay silent for a moment. He let out a breath and ran a hand through his hair. "Naomi... if I was passed out by a hit, then I don't think they would run away... They've been after me for years, and I know how they play. If I'm done, then they would take advantage of it.. Are....Are you sure he just ran off? Was there someone else there?" He asked.

Of course, Caleb didn't want to threaten her by saying she was lying. It was just hard believing her at the moment. After all, if he passed out then why would the demon run away? It made no sense. Then she hailed a taxi and brought them here? Why? What were they even doing at a motel anyways? He was pretty sure that she tried a bit hard to hide them from that demon, but he wasn't too concerned with that. One thing that made him curious was that she already knew that the man was a demon. She must have figured it out somehow on the way. Which meant that he probably had a lot of explaining to do...

Naomi exhaled a breath. There was obviously no way she could lie to him, especially an incredulous one like this. Her assuming that he was a demon was already a dead giveaway. He had always seen through her lies. But there wasn't any harm in changing the lie just a bit to make it sound more believable. "Caleb...I have something to tell you." she said quietly.

She swallowed nervously. "I'm a Mage." To prove it, she conjured up a small ball of gathered energy. It cast a dim glow across the mostly dark room. It was a power that most magical beings could use. For demons, it became dark energy. "I used my powers to stall the demon and then I used powers to fly us out of here." she said. Mages do have that sort of power, so it wasn't like she was saying a lie. She wanted to help him, and if he knew that she was a half-angel, he wouldn't let her help him. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you." Her head became dizzy again because of her overuse of powers. The ball of energy immediately disappeared.
